    disturbing yet good

This movie had me a few places, saw it at the Drive inns and I think that made it evem scarier with people walking around, was waiting for something to come jump out at me in my car, The real footage found scenes was quite disturbing, but this movie had a good story and unexpected ending. Still think about the footage scene. If you are squirmish or disturbed by real footage scenes this may not be the movie for you as you leave with it still on your mind. Based on a true story makes it even more so real and scary

    Suspenseful and Creepy

This is a great horror movie that really builds up the suspense and gives you those jump-out-of-your-seat moments. Very creepy and jarring ending. We thoroughly enjoyed it. 'Old School' suspenseful horror at its best.

    Jump Scares

It wasn't bad... but it wasn't great either. Kinda slow but if you are a person that gets caught off guard with the jump scares. Then you will like this one.

    Made for TV Movie!?!

Sinister, was probably the best name to pick for this movie. The ads were very "sinister" in getting you to see the movie. The plot was already announced in the beginning of the movie if you catch things pretty quickly. Grant it did have scenes that the director tried so hard to make you jump but the suspense was short lived. Like a child running up to you shouting "boo" when your not aware, then realize its just a child. The writer's tried to keep you focused on a selection of characters, then tried to shock you on who the bad guy was in the end. Silly mistakes. This was a made for TV movie, if that. Save your money, even if you have free tickets, not worth the trip.

    Very Disturbing

Sinister was a very good movie to me as I was watching it. There was a few times I had to look away because the very disturbing scenes to me. When I got home all I could think about was these few scenes that played over and over and over throughout the movie and it really bothered me. Some of the clips you watch seem almost too real and I couldn't help but be bothered and disturbed by it.

    Not So Sinister After All

This movie was like a candy necklace - only with demons in place of the candy. It was like demonic bits of gruesome and interesting strung together with cheap weakness. The family films that the protagonist views near the beginning of the film are absolutely awful and very hard to watch, but also very interesting. The home videos start you on the path of wondering how this movie is going to turn out. Next in line are some throw away scenes. Then back to the heart of the story, the investigation, the beginnings of a pattern. Next - predictable fluff. That's basically the formula for the movie. It seems to have started out very high-brow and well intentioned, and the core story is truly fascinating. But somewhere along the process of actually producing the movie, the creators seem to have lost their endurance. The result is a film that is not scary at all, but is instead a strange collage of both promise and awkwardness. You may just want to skip this one.

    Not what you think.

Everyone was saying"How scary" and "jumpy" this movie was,So I was expecting a good horror film for once....Well,Needless to say I was disappointed.
I didn't jump once, you expected everything that was gonna happen, and they tried too hard to make you scared.
Other then that it was an alright movie.

    Could've Been Better.

    by

This was not scary. I have a rule that I don't see any scary movies unless they're rated "R". That's usually my signal that they'll actually be scary. This could've been rated PG-13. It was rated R because of the contents of the "home movies", but not because they were scary. It was because they depicted killings. It could have been developed more, as well. Just not good.

    Very "meh"

If you're at all a fan of horror movies, you'll be bored by this one.
All the scary moments are either already in the trailer or in one of the short super 8 film clips Ethan Hawke's character finds. (I will, however, give mad props for the lawnmower scene. That was pretty good) However, the rest of the movie pans out ultra predictably. Creepy kids? Check. Loud noises? Check. Unshakeable evil? Check. We saw the "twist" coming a mile away. I started fighting sleep the last 20 minutes of the movie. The ending was rather anticlimatic.
It has a lot of potential (Again, the lawnmower scene and super 8 films were unsettling) but it just doesn't live up to the hype. Horror movie buffs will be frightfully bored, but some teenage girls in our theater seemed to enjoy it. So, if you're a teenager, go see this movie. You might be able to scare your friends. Otherwise, save yourself the money.

    Perfect Halloween movie

Unlike many of the "found footage" horror movies that have made the rounds over the years, this one is on to something. By combining the home videos found in an attic with the supernatural, the fear factor is doubled in that you don't really know if it's a serial killer or something else. Ethan Hawke does a great job playing a dude that ends up going a little crazy after looking into these cold cases after moving into one of the victim's homes. His cop buddy provides some much needed humor to a story that is beyond dark. Each of the home movies found seem to one up the previous one on the sick & twisted meter. Without giving anything away, you see how one guy's chance to write a story turns into something pretty bad. And why does everything bad happen in Connecticut? I read some people had it figured out early on but I was kept guessing until the last few minutes of the movie. Worth the trip to a late showing if your looking for a good scare at the movies.

    Sinister - Save your Money!!

    by FB34

This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Although the plot had some potential - there really was no point to this movie. Apart from the one scene - it wasn't at all scary and the whole section with the children towards the end was just plain stupid. If you are looking for a scary movie - save your money.

    Totally Worth It.

I saw PA4 and Sinister back to back in the same night. I saw PA4 first, so as Sinister started, I was expecting things to start happening early. It took a while for my adrenaline to calm down as the story developed. But I was not disappointed. Sinister is scarier than PA4 because it can potentially happen in real life (not to discount a spirit realm). The idea of there being a voyer is terrifying in itself, and without giving away any plot details, the connection between the murders leaves you wondering about your own home. How the families were murdered was horrific, and the way Ellison became overly involved in his investigation was crazy too. I think it would have set the bar if the "supernatural entity" was a masked human to disguise himself though. For me, it made it less scary for me knowing "the killer" wasn't real. In my opinion, the supernatural parts were the weakest moments in the movie, it felt like The Grudge to me. But I would highly recommend for a scary night out.

Haven't seen a movie this scary for a while

    by

This movie is so scary my gf closed her eyes most of the time.

There were only a few problems I had with the movie. When something weird is going on you should turn on the light. And with a cop being your friend you should feel free to call him if you see something. Also when you found evidence for murder you call the police and not try to solve the case yourself.

This movie was even more scarier than Paranormal Activity movies.

    Definitely worth a ticket

I went into this movie hearing some pretty good things about it, and I wasn't disappointed. I'll admit a lot of its scares were jump scares, but the movie does a good job of setting up the proper atmosphere to make you feel suspense and dread. I'd especially recommend this to people who like horror films, but haven't seen the trailers for this one; a lot is, sadly, given away in the trailers, and yet I still managed to get creeped out by it. So if you haven't seen them, you'll get scared by it all the more.

    Sinister

Liked the jump scares! Took my macho 13 year old to see it too... He liked it. He kept grabbing my arm... Even my mother liked it. Could have had a little more story development. I like a closed ending rather than an open one. They left it wide open!
