This movie should be titled, "Ethan Hawke Watches a Film"

...because that was all that happened in this snoozefest that purported itself to be a horror flick. Save your money and wait for "Sinister" to hit cable.

    Lights Out

First downfall is no one ever wants to turn on a freaking light. All the suspense happening is in a dark house fully capable of being lit. Second is that while I usually like Ethan Hawk..his drinking and closed off personallity annoyed the hell out of me. The scorpion/snake/dog/ symbols were used so randomly and just had no impact on building the fear. Aside from a few loud thumps..there were no shocking moments save for the lawn mower scene. It was the last 30 minutes that totally ruined the movie with the strupid unscarey kids all putting their fingers to their mouths and saying shhhhhhhh...it had an element of creepiness but that lasted 4 seconds. WHen he burns the film and projector and it shoiws up again in tact is where I was wishing I was home pounding my thumb with a hammer. WASTE OF TIME

    Keeps your interest

This may not be the scariest movie I've ever seen but its pretty solid and holds your interest throughout the picture. It does play with your mind and has you wondering what's going on many times. Many twists catch you off guard often. Ethan Hawke has a strange way of portraying his main character, though there are many things his character could've and should've done to prevent the ending which obviously I won't tell, There are many other comments I could say about this well written flick but on the whole I liked it and would recommend seeing it but would not take children under 13 to see it.

    Not scary

I hardly ever go to the movies to see a horror flick since all the Paranormal Activity movies sucked and you just can't seem to find a good one anymore. I saw the previews for this and thought this might actually be a decent flick. I was wrong. Yeah...it had a few loud noises and jumping out scenes but not enough to make this a good scary movie. It had the perfect concept to make this movie great but they went the wrong way with it. The "demon" was a joke, the dead kids looked and acted like a low budget film. It was just done all wrong. Too many fighting scenes between the couple, not enough gore or freaky parts. Upon exiting the theatre, my BF and I were not the only ones extremely disappointed with the movie. Comments were made from many patrons leaving on how that movie was lacking.

It had potential, but all of the scary scenes were shown in the movie's previews. All of them. If you've seen the previews, save yourself the money that you would spend on a ticket.

    Good movie

I liked this movie. Kept my interest the entire time made me jump at times. This one will be added to my movie collection when it comes out on DVD.

    Two Thumbs....Way Down!!

I must say, I had high hopes for this movie, especially since I've seen some really good reviews. I even went in with an open mind; that didn't seem to be enough. Honestly, sitting through this movie was as annoying as hearing the commonly obnoxious "movie goers" talk and chuckle behind me throughout the duration of most horror movies. I usually don't have as much of a pet peeve for jump scares as most, but I think this movie may have changed that. The jump scares weren't even scary; they were just flat out ANNOYING (word of the day). I was hoping that the somewhat "spooky" atmosphere would've been the set up to a spooky premise, but the horror elements were so cheap and amateur at best, from the "face painted" and awkward "dead" children, to the villain who was so subtle that he wasn't even much of a villain. And on top of that, this had to be one of the most predictable horror movies I've ever seen. It's almost as if they wanted you to know when to expect something.

    1.5/5 Stars!!

    "Sinister" Review

    by

I had high hopes for Sinister. Not saying it was a bad movie, because it wasn't, I just wish it was more horror and less suspense. Good acting and plot line made the film worthwhile. Not your average haunted house movie.

    WTHeeeeeeeeck WAS THIS!!!

As a person who has watched scary movies ALL my life, I was very disappointed with this movie. Not only did the KIDS look like they had makeup PAINTED on their faces (fake looking) this movie was OVERALL NOT SCARY. Do NOT I repeat DO NOT waste your MONEY! The preview is scarier than the actual Movie. I probably wouldn't even watch this movie on DVD. I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED ON WHO EVER DIRECTED THIS MOVIE. I'm more upset that THEY GOT MY MONEY. I wanted to START a RIOT when this movie ended. If you want to see a scary movie go SEE PARANORMAL ACTIVITY! .. GOOD MOVIE! Can't wait for Silent Hill Revelation.

    Boring

I was in the mood for something scary and went and seen the premier last night... definitely NOT worth it. Yes I'll give it the creepy suspenseful music factor, and the typical something-jumps-out-at-you scenes.. but the main ghost guy looks like a cheesy haunted house mask once you really see it. The "scary" ghost children look like trick-or-treaters. The little girl Ashley and the other children's acting actually made me laugh, horribly forced and plain.. about the only thing that was decent was Ethan Hawke. There are a few pretty good gruesome scenes that probably gave it the R rating, but it really seems like a movie aimed to scare young teenagers. Save your money, wait for something scarier to come out.

    Sinister

The film tied together pretty well, but could have been better. The end could have been the best part if more gore was involved, although the twist was thoughtful. The special effects makeup on the children could have been more intricate, it really wasn't scary, but the acting was good, and there were a few creepy scenes which made the audience yell or jump.

You got to be kidding Me

    by Blue11

I watched the trailer to Sinister on TV which I'm starting to look at as a Marketing gimmick. The movies sucked and the creature that was shown on TV was not seen in form until the end. I was very disappointed with this film that made me retreat back to my PC and just wait to watch them on line for free.

These film makers have one thing in common. They can't make a good movie that lives up to the hype...

    Pass on this.

Unless You're Into That Whole Jumping Out At You Type of Scare...

I would wait for it to come out on STARZ or HBO... I absolutely love getting the crap scared out of me at a good scary movie. I look forward to the part where I have to go back to my apartment alone and spend the whole night with the lights on because I'm so scared. THAT did not happen after this movie. You are pretty solid in what the ending will be about 45 minutes in, and the only scary parts are things JUMPING out at your face from dark. Who wouldn't jump??? Pretty Disappointed. Wish I could have my money refunded.

    Meh

The exposition in this movie was almost too much. The whole movie was dark, in an attempt to make it scarier, but it makes no sense why a writer would do all of his work in the dark. It was okay and there were some good parts, but it was pretty hokey.
