A decent film ...
by
I was wondering how the experience would be as a whole because of the reviews that started coming in the day after its release. But I wasn't all that disappointed with the film, when it came down to it. I was wondering what the "twist" would be until fairly late in the film (there is nothing worse, I tell you, than paying $10 or more to know what the "surprise" is by the time the movie's a quarter over), and it had some definite "jumpy" moments. Ethan Hawke's performance as the disconnected Dad, if that was what he was supposed to be, was flawless - but if the character was truly written that way, I must say it was more than a tad unbelievable. He sees all this gory footage, has barely any reaction to it at all except to grab the ol' whiskey bottle and ... well, spoilers being what they are, I won't say anything more. But some of the characters were just hashed together. I think the actors did as fine a job as they could, under the circumstances, so in the end, it was a decent film.
