    Sinister

    by PaddyP

Based on it's creep factor, I think it was a good movie. Lots of screaming in theater. I would recommend this movie to all those who enjoy horror movies

One of the few amazing new horror movies

I have been watching horror/suspense movies since I was 11 years old. I have seen almost every B horror movie from the 80s and most of the "classic" horror movies. I am usually not impressed by more recent genre of horror movies as they fail to correctly build suspense, the soundtrack ruins the moment, or obvious attempts to shock the audience.

However, this movie much like Insidious was in excellent form. It managed to perfectly build the moment and hit you when you least expected it. The soundtrack (unlike most movies which actually damage the potential fear factor) was amazing. It was a mix of sinister (pun intended) and eerie sound combinations that really put chills down my spine.

Acting was superb, no cheesy reactions or unrealistic responses from characters that can turn a good horror into a hilarious B movie. Anyone who is a fan of Insidious, or enjoys being thoroughly traumatized by a good scare, this is definitely a must see movie.

    Sinister is Winning

    by cpl109

Overall, Sinister was a good horror movie, which is rare these days. The ending is predictable, but at least it has a decent ending. If you don't see it in Theaters, at least see it on DVD. I promise, it will make you jump at least once.

    Taylor was scared

    by tbarth6

Not a average scary movie is the best way to describe Sinister. The movie had great sound choices that always kept you on the edge. Even though the movie is very revealing when it is time to shut your eyes it still had everyone shuttering. Throughout the movie secrecy of the ominous demon was mind blowing. The story line was very easy to follow and made sense. I think that Sinister was one of my favorite scary movies of all time because it not only kept me cringing every time Ethan Hawke stepped in his office but almost throughout the entire film. Showing how each person is their own demon creates a horrid image in everyones mind that tied the movie together as a whole.

    A decent film ...

    by

I was wondering how the experience would be as a whole because of the reviews that started coming in the day after its release. But I wasn't all that disappointed with the film, when it came down to it. I was wondering what the "twist" would be until fairly late in the film (there is nothing worse, I tell you, than paying $10 or more to know what the "surprise" is by the time the movie's a quarter over), and it had some definite "jumpy" moments. Ethan Hawke's performance as the disconnected Dad, if that was what he was supposed to be, was flawless - but if the character was truly written that way, I must say it was more than a tad unbelievable. He sees all this gory footage, has barely any reaction to it at all except to grab the ol' whiskey bottle and ... well, spoilers being what they are, I won't say anything more. But some of the characters were just hashed together. I think the actors did as fine a job as they could, under the circumstances, so in the end, it was a decent film.

    Awful !

This movie was a waste of time. While the premise of the movie was interesting...it fell so short or being anything! Perhaps there were lots of good scenes on the cutting room floor, because there was a lot missing. Too much Ethan Hawke, and really....why was he wearing that cliché "writer's sweater" the entire movie? Was looking forward to a good scary movie - and it just ended up being stupid. And the more I think about it - the more things I found wrong with it.

    Tense and Chilling

I give it a solid B+. Look this movie isn't totally without fault ( like how come no one wakes up during the racket of the dad fumbling/falling around the house EVERY nite?). And the ending was ok. However it will keep you tense the entire time ...no so much for blood and guts BUT PLENTY of suspense. I like horror films and was more than satisfied with the chills it gave me. As were the 2 women sitting in front of me judging by the way they were scrunched up in their seats for most of the movie.

    Sinister

Go if your 11 years old and want the bagubee's scared out of you, for adults, it was kinda on the PG-13 side. I agree with the person who said it was too dark to see anything; there should have been more showing of the actuall killings. You want to scare me then make Bagool a little more scary!! The writer should be coated in honey and thrown in with 20 hungry baby bears to be licked-tickled into a coma!! (Don't ask what that means-I don't know) Other than that, I was a little scared but not to the point where I couldn't turn out the light. I slept very soundly!!

    Wow..

I've seen countless horror films and I've gotten to a point where they don't affect me anymore. That changed after watching Sinister..This movie had the whole theater jumping in their seats. Truly a must-see! Word of warning though, this one is not for the kids, very graphic and somewhat disturbing images.

    Creeepy

I was holding my moms arm so tight throughout the entire thing. It was scary, and had a lot of moments that make you jump. Some graphics could have been better, and I feel like they could have shown the scary guy more. But it did scare me! I say go see it, the best scary movie out at the moment

    Great!

    by

I think it was awesome, it was between this and Paranormal and I'm glad I went to see this one. It keeps you on the edge of the seat for quite a while, until the next oh sh*t moment. You should go see it!

    Not what you think.

Everyone was saying"How scary" and "jumpy" this movie was,So I was expecting a good horror film for once....Well,Needless to say I was disappointed.
I didn't jump once, you expected everything that was gonna happen, and they tried too hard to make you scared.
Other then that it was an alright movie.

    Missing elements

    by

1st if you saw the previews then they ruined the really scary bits which I hate. In other words you know whats coming etc. That said the film offered up some great moments of creepy and disturbing tension. But after a while you get the feeling that you will never really encounter the boogie man. You do, sort of - and that's why I give the film a so-so because it's delivery at the end is missing elements.
