    Not too bad!

This movie seemed kinda campy to me when I first saw the trailers, maybe thiking in the back of my mind it was going to be yet another Blair Witch/Paranormal Activity re-hash; but I was pleasantly surprised. It had the usual plot points and the annoying, everything is your fault wife, but it was all put together in an original manner with some disturbing imagery without the typical horror porn associated with the "SAW-People". I recommend going to see this movie in the theaters, made me jump 3 times, plus the surround sound of the theater lets you hear all the little bumps and slams that you just wont get at home. Not an excellent horror movie, nothing even comes close these days, but good and enjoyable.

A refreshing look at the Boogie Man

While I'm not a a fanatic of horror films, I did enjoy this one. The film makers do a great job of using wide angles and camera movement to keep you on your toes and to cloak the predictability of the scares. You will find yourself equally disappointed by the scare value in some scenes as you are rewarded in others. They manipulate the timing and sound very well to supplement the great camera and edit work. Good scare value in this film.

The story is a rehashing of the Boogie Man folklore but it takes awhile for that story to materialize. I would say overall: It's above average for a scare flick. Mixes in a little bit of the disturb-factor and you get a decent Halloween movie.

One note to be made: Mr. Ransone (the deputy) does a great job stealing scenes from Hawke. His chops as a comical actor were superb. Timing was great.

    Riddlingly Awesome!

OH MUH GAH! I love this movie!!! Saw it this afternoon! It's not like most movies today that rely on the gore factor. Just when it gets to a part where guts are expected to fly it cuts away leaving it all to the imagination of the viewer. Subtle things give the tendency to send the viewer on a wild goose chase when it comes to figuring out where the missing kids went and who killed the families. Plenty of things to make you jump and even a few places to give you a giggle. Eventually I figured it out, but can you?

Didn't live up to the hype

First of all it was Thriller not Horror. Their wasn't anything scary about it. The only people who got scared from this movie in the theaters were the ladies. Typical chasing shadows ect...
If you watch good horror movies and want to see a good horror movie don't waste time seeing this. The only thing scary about this movie was the Creep faced guy. You cant expect much from the people who made paranormal activity.

So Sinister, yet sentual at the same time.

The title of this film easily emotes the splendor that one will fell inside. The worst part of this feature was the fact I had spicy food immediately before the presentation. Half way through the film I had unknowingly shot peppers into my pants. I sat through the film as the people around me shouted in horror. They were terrified. I was terrified. When the film was over, everyone ran out in anger. This film will leave you yearning for more.

    Excellent horror flick!

I highly recommend seeing this flick. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the film. It has just the right amount of genuine, slow-building creepitude (yes, I said creeipitude!) mixed with cheap, jump-out-of-your-seat scares. It also has a well constructed plot, complete with a backstory and real explanations and motivations for why the characters do what they do, which seems to be a rarity in horror films these days. My buddies and I get out to see the latest promising horror flick every few months and this is the only one in the last few years that we can all agree was completely worth it. Go see it. You won't be disappointed, but you will be scared.

Scariest movie I have seen in a long time if not ever.

I love horror movies and see them all the time and Sinister is AMAZING as far as horror films go. It made me jump so many times and it never got stupid like so many other scary movies do. Even the ending was great. If you love scary movies like me, I highly suggest going to see this one.

Based on it's creep factor, I think it was a good movie. Lots of screaming in theater. I would recommend this movie to all those who enjoy horror movies

    Very Disturbing

Sinister was a very good movie to me as I was watching it. There was a few times I had to look away because the very disturbing scenes to me. When I got home all I could think about was these few scenes that played over and over and over throughout the movie and it really bothered me. Some of the clips you watch seem almost too real and I couldn't help but be bothered and disturbed by it.

get in the spirit of halloween. a good creepy movie!

there was a really long plot buildup, but it was extrememly suspenseful. after about an hour, you knew the last thirty minutes were going to be creepy as hell, which they were. i would agree that thsi is not the average horror movie.there were parts where i had to cover my eyes, and there were lots of surprises, and one CHEAP,CHEAP scare, but it was a perfect ending. nothing crazy intricate, but it served its purpose. a good halloween movie. also- the deputy even made it funny at times. good movie, good ideas, and great suspense. go!!!

This movie should be titled, "Ethan Hawke Watches a Film"

...because that was all that happened in this snoozefest that purported itself to be a horror flick. Save your money and wait for "Sinister" to hit cable.

Scariest Movie of the Year (Don't Watch Trailers Though)

    by

This movie is guaranteed to leave you shaking before it is even half way through. However, the best scares, as always, were put right in the trailers. It is best to go into this one blind.

    Sinister a disturbing wicked movie

I watched this movie looking to be scared, but mostly I was very disturbed but the plot of a demonic possession of children. That then murder there own families in service to the demon that has possessed their souls. If you like the sickest of the sick this is for you.

    Fresh take on older material

    by

The director does a fantastic job of playing with backgrounds and foregrounds and keeping you on the edge of your seat. The very edge, so far that you are squinting and covering your ears as soon as the music stops.. or starts. You feel uncomfortable and uneasy and continuously thinking what's coming next. . The movie is undoubtedly scary and offers its fair share of "o sh*t ! " moments. (kids scare the crap out of me) The best part of the movie is not really the horror. Its the establishment of the family unit, creating almost a sub-movie within a movie. You honestly care about the characters and the decisions they make actually make sense. During most horror movies, I end up wanting all the characters to die because they behave like morons-- Not here. The characters actually make logical decisions and have believable dialogue and that's the KEY because the logical decision ends up being the WORST decision possible! love it!! Anyway I dont want to spoil it! A+

    Not what you think.

Everyone was saying"How scary" and "jumpy" this movie was,So I was expecting a good horror film for once....Well,Needless to say I was disappointed.
I didn't jump once, you expected everything that was gonna happen, and they tried too hard to make you scared.
Other then that it was an alright movie.
