Haven't seen a movie this scary for a while

    by

This movie is so scary my gf closed her eyes most of the time.

There were only a few problems I had with the movie. When something weird is going on you should turn on the light. And with a cop being your friend you should feel free to call him if you see something. Also when you found evidence for murder you call the police and not try to solve the case yourself.

This movie was even more scarier than Paranormal Activity movies.

Clearly Made by the Producers of Insidious and Paranormal Activity

This movie is pretty gruesomely scary but a little predictable and looses its steam by adding in too many scenes where they show the ghosts too much and for too long. Like Insidious, they should have left more to the imagination toward the end, but the overall theme and murderous scenes are horrifying. It could have been better but it was better than I expected.

    Sinister - Save your Money!!

    by FB34

This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Although the plot had some potential - there really was no point to this movie. Apart from the one scene - it wasn't at all scary and the whole section with the children towards the end was just plain stupid. If you are looking for a scary movie - save your money.

    Could've Been Better.

    by

This was not scary. I have a rule that I don't see any scary movies unless they're rated "R". That's usually my signal that they'll actually be scary. This could've been rated PG-13. It was rated R because of the contents of the "home movies", but not because they were scary. It was because they depicted killings. It could have been developed more, as well. Just not good.

I fell asleep for a second their

    by

It was a very slow build up. Ethan played an ok drunk dad. Here's what I thought was scary: the thunder storm at the movies, the stalker white van parked next to me, the lightening outside & the car driving on the wrong side of the road.

    Surprisingly Sinister

While Sinister doesn't do much in the innovation department and it's no Oscar hopeful, it certainly does its best to do what it's supposed to do: horrify. There are several typical scream-worthy moments which are mostly products of loud noises and the like, but it's the story and overarching mood of the film are inherently creepy and unsettling. The twists are pretty solid, as is Ethan Hawke's performance, and in true horror style, the score does a lot of the work to establish the sinisterness of the film. Personally, I see horror films to be scared and Sinister does this more effectively than anything of the same calibre that I've seen recently. It's not genre-defining, nor terrifying, but it didn't try too hard and it definitely had my skin crawling. If you're a fan of horror and looking for something satisfyingly scary and genuinely entertaining, I'd recommend Sinister.

    Old Fashioned Horror

Being a fan of true horror films, I absolutely enjoyed this film! I heard more screams in the audience at this movie than I have ever heard in a slasher movie. Slasher is not horror - scare me -that's horror! I haven't jumped in my seat like that since I saw Birds on the big screen.

    Epically Frightening!!

    by Swirv02

I honestly have not been this frightened since I was a kid watching Nightmare on Elm Street.... Such a well put together Horror film which is so very hard to come by these days. Extremely creepy, scary, and frightening and soooo worth it!

Shaking in places never shaken before

Two friends and I (all three horror movie mavens) went to Sinister last night. We have seen so many horror movies that we thought nothing of going to see another except for pure enjoyment. We had no idea what we were in for. What we got was probably one of the most DISTURBING movie experiences of our lives. Usually, after a movie we will sit and chat about the movie - the good, the bad, the scary, the things that could have been done better. Not last night. Instead, we walked to the parking garage and stared at each other and the only word that came out was, "Disturbing." Then we said goodbye and walked away silently. I have never been so rattled after a horror movie that I actually check my surroundings or my car, but last night I was doing it non stop all the way home.

This was what a horror movie should be on all levels. If you like horror, go see this. You may never want to see another horror movie again though.

    Sinister

    by geppie

Kept waiting for something really scary to happen. This movie was a dud. Of course all the highlights were in the previews. I would have rated this movie PG not R. Everything happened in the same place, in the house. It got boring to me.

    Awful !

This movie was a waste of time. While the premise of the movie was interesting...it fell so short or being anything! Perhaps there were lots of good scenes on the cutting room floor, because there was a lot missing. Too much Ethan Hawke, and really....why was he wearing that cliché "writer's sweater" the entire movie? Was looking forward to a good scary movie - and it just ended up being stupid. And the more I think about it - the more things I found wrong with it.

    A Pulse-Pounding Ride

The applicably titled movie sinister is certainly as scary as it promises; however, the film lacks a credible main character and good acting. The film features several conventional scares with various things roaring on to the screen, appearing behind the characters unexpectedly, and several very loud, gut wrenching noises. The music of the film compliments all of these very well and succeeds in creating an atmosphere of discomfort and terror. Furthermore, the shots are spectacular. It was very well directed in that regard. Although our directer seemed to overlook the elementary acting not expected from Ethan Hawke as well as the complete disregard for the climax of the plot which is totally ignored and refuted in the movie's haphazard ending. Despite these flaws, Sinister did manage to do what I hoped it would: scare me. For that reason I would recommend any horror-buff to gather some friends and buy a ticket to sinister.

    Sinister

    by

This movie really surprised me because it actually had a plot which I could follow thruout the entire movie. Usually bad horror movies start off with the blood & gore at the beginning of the movie too quickly & this tends to lose the audience's attention with the result being boredom halfway thru the movie. This movie at times had me at the edge of my seat especially the face of the ghoul.... Oh how scary! The makeup used on the ghoul was excellent and the little girl played her role well. I rate it an 8 out of 10. Although, it still can't measure up to the Excorist, Omen or the original Amityville Horror - now those movies were scary! Definitely, too scary for kids! At home I had the jumps & thought I was going to have nightmares about the ghoul!!........................ :(

    Jump Scares

It wasn't bad... but it wasn't great either. Kinda slow but if you are a person that gets caught off guard with the jump scares. Then you will like this one.
