Literally Jumped Out of My Seat
by
While it's not the best horror film in recent history, nor will it be long remembered, it gets the job done if you're goal is to be scared for the duration of the film. The evil spirit is super creepy and makes you want to turn away every time it shows him because you aren't sure what it's going to do. It's not too gory so it doesn't lose you there, either. Where it lost me, and where most horror films lose me despite being my favorite genre, is in the plausibility. Not whether the story could happen, but whether the people in the story would actually do what they're doing in the film and, unfortunately, I don't think Sinister has much plausibility in this regard. However, I was pretty scared throughout the whole film and jumped out of my seat twice. The acting was decent but the story, music and camera work were exceptional in providing the scares. Go and see it if you're a scary movie fan.
