    Jumped 3 times

    by

I was expecting this movie to be very scary and I must admit that I was a little disappointed on the scary factor. I did jump a few times but I was expecting to not want to open my eyes because I had heard it was REALLY scary! This movie doesn't qualify as a scary movie to me. To me, this movie qualifies as a thriller. Thriller and scary have completely different components. I enjoyed the story line and it did have a great ending BUT if you're looking to be scared enough where you can't go to sleep at night - this movie fails to deliver.

If you are imaginative this will scare the heck out of you!

I thought it was one of the scariest films I've ever seen but I like movies that are less gory and more psychologically frightening. I loved Insidious, The Ring, and Blair Witch gave me nightmares. Maybe it is because I have 3 kids...I don't know, but I was way freaked out by this one. I have not stopped thinking about it since seeing it yesterday, most movies are over when they're over but this one has still got me on edge!. BIG time scares for me. :) The perfect Halloween movie for horror movie fans.

    Taylor was scared

    by tbarth6

Not a average scary movie is the best way to describe Sinister. The movie had great sound choices that always kept you on the edge. Even though the movie is very revealing when it is time to shut your eyes it still had everyone shuttering. Throughout the movie secrecy of the ominous demon was mind blowing. The story line was very easy to follow and made sense. I think that Sinister was one of my favorite scary movies of all time because it not only kept me cringing every time Ethan Hawke stepped in his office but almost throughout the entire film. Showing how each person is their own demon creates a horrid image in everyones mind that tied the movie together as a whole.

    Suspense & Expectations

Went to watch the opening and I was very excited from the previews. The movie overall was good. It took a bit long to actually get to the good parts. However, it was very suspenseful nonetheless. It didn't really meet what I was expecting from the previews but definitely would recommend people go see it.

Cliched and predictable - Rent it instead

Sinister isn't a bad movie, but its not good either. I've watched a lot of horror movies over the years so maybe I'm just desensitized, but Woman in Black is a MUCH better film with similar themes. I didn't even think Sinister was scary. I was expecting a lot more suspense, but it actually had quite a few parts that I thought were boring and irrelevant. I kept thinking something would pop out, but most of the time nothing happened. If you do see it expect to roll your eyes frequently at the complete and utter stupidity of the main character. Instead of grabbing a baseball bat and running around the house in the dark, why not consider a light switch instead?

If you've watched a lot of horror movies then this won't be anything special to you. But if you are very sensitive (see: easily bothered) or you thought that Paranormal Activity was great and terrifying- then you'll probably like this. Otherwise I'd say rent it and save $10.

    Sinister: A Haunting Horror Classic

The best part of the movie is the films. Just when I was convinced that found footage movies were tired and needed to be retired along comes a movie that completely refreshed the trope. And because the found footage is old 8 mm reels it has a distorted look and feel to it, adding to the film?s horror.

The films are more than just a plot device, they are a character in and of themselves. They are presented to Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke), like a dismembered mouse left by the family cat. Difference being that the cat?s offering is out of love. The films are something far more sinister. A self-serving delivery of evil. The films are grotesque echoes of things past, and things to come.

Halloween is the time for spine-chilling terror and Sinister is a perfect expression for the season.

    yawn....

We went to see this one after my wife saw a short blurb by Whoopie on The View, saying it was "scary"...that should have been my first hint. After seeing the trailer though, my wife and I thought it showed some promise. Unfortunately, the trailer contained the only few moments of the film that held any semblance of suspense or shock value! Granted, the cinetography was decent, but in the age of digital recording, editing and effects, all that means is the geek squad behind the keyboard got it somewhat right. The acting was dry, the story had holes in it a mile wide, and character developement was a joke, even for a B horror flick. Shock or scare value? Don't ask...The Muppet Movie was creepier! Overall, Sinister was highly predictable, shallow, and generally boring. Don't waste your cash...but if you still decide that you *have* to see this, wait for it to hit cable tv...in two months. I did take a lesson from this though...never, EVER see a "scary" movie endorsed by The View!

    Finally a good scary movie

I really enjoyed Sinister. I didn't expect as much as the movie delivered. It was a true throw back to the scary suspenseful movie genre. Without using lots of blood & guts, no slasher type stuff, just good suspense and surprises. The storyline was very different from what I thought. Lots of dark and gray colors in the scenes. Didn't notice the face in the movie poster, but now I do. LOL.

For those of you who remember the Candy Man movies...this is like that, IMO. AAAHHHH.

Ethan Hawk was good in this part and believable. The kids, too. Nothing I didn't like about this movie because the writing was clever and kept my attention thoroughout. I think this was a worthwhile big screen flick.

    The Suspenseful Expectation. Met

Very exhilarating film indeed, and what was more applaudable is that the film took little to no time in getting right into the creepy, frightful and suspenseful moment(s) that was bone chilling from the beginning to the ending.

    Suspenseful and Creepy

This is a great horror movie that really builds up the suspense and gives you those jump-out-of-your-seat moments. Very creepy and jarring ending. We thoroughly enjoyed it. 'Old School' suspenseful horror at its best.

    Creepy and Dsiturbing

    by

Sinister is a really interesting film, I wouldn't say its overtly scary but it really keeps you on edge to see how the story will resolve. It was very suspenseful and very well written. I really enjoyed the sound design which help the audience feel the confusion and disorientation of the lead character. The supporting cast was very good and I enjoyed the fact that there were only a couple of well know actors. Thoroughly enjoyed the creep and disturbing vibe of this film. My only complaint is that they decided to use the "loud noise" scare which in my opinion does not make a horror film scary, it just makes you jump from being startled by the noise. I feel that it an obvious gimmick and would have done better if this was not included in this film.

    Sinister

Go if your 11 years old and want the bagubee's scared out of you, for adults, it was kinda on the PG-13 side. I agree with the person who said it was too dark to see anything; there should have been more showing of the actuall killings. You want to scare me then make Bagool a little more scary!! The writer should be coated in honey and thrown in with 20 hungry baby bears to be licked-tickled into a coma!! (Don't ask what that means-I don't know) Other than that, I was a little scared but not to the point where I couldn't turn out the light. I slept very soundly!!

Movie was not actually as Sinister as the trailer promised

    by

I was quite disappointed. While they did give us some cheap scares, that's really all it was. And the ending was predictable and anti-climatic. I wrote a more full length review at drunkonpop.com if you're interested.
