Zombies with Heart
For book purists, this cinematic version is super close. Things that either were changed/omitted won't be missed by the moviegoer, though I wonder (since I just read the book prior to seeing the movie) if some of the message in the story might be lost.
The grey scenes, with the pop of color from R's red sweatshirt, appear to be a metaphor for his reappearing humanity. There's definitely a Montague/Capulet vibe here, too.
The eating scenes are not super gory (esp compared to The Walking Dead!) but you will hear chomping noises, see smears of blood. The close ups of the Boneys (skeletal zombies) are scarier than the "plumper" zombies by far.
There's a lot of humor, a couple of bad words (though they did make the scenes funnier, if you don't mind that sort of thing), lots of shooting, chasing, biting, dying. In other words, A ZOMBIE MOVIE.
I very much enjoyed the film, as did my 13-1/2-year-old daughter & my [AGE DELETED] husband. It was a very fun re-imagining of the genre.
