    Heartbreaking and Hilarious

    by dcp87

I expected a lot from this movie, reading about the Oscar buzz, having read the book, so I knew I was setting myself up for disappointment. None of that though, this movie was GREAT, capturing the balance between comedy and tragedy that movies seldom can but that feels instantly real.

The reason to see the movie is of course for the performances. Bradley Cooper surprises in a role very different for him. Jackie Weaver captures the role of his mother who is the family's rock while never really stepping out from the shadows. And it wouldn't be fair to say I'm surprised by Jennifer Lawrence because she has proven time and time again to be hugely talented, and this movie just confirms that. Her portrayal is layered and heartbreaking and honest, and I hope the buzz is right that she's getting a nomination for it because it's well-deserved.

A completely satisfying movie proving that great storytelling doesn't have to be desperately sad.

    Silver Linings Playbook

    by

This movie did not meet my expectations. Though wittily written with quirky characters dealing with real life situations, the unique appeal of the movie was quickly lost when the plot becomes a cliche up and down love story. I would recommend seeing it but not at movie theater price.

    Believable chemistry

    by

Jennifer Lawrence is a force to reckon with. She's so pretty and believable in every role she takes on, and she might be the Meryl Streep of this generation. Surprisingly enough, Bradley Cooper rose to the occasion as well and it's certainly due to the strong support and inspiration that his co-star prvovided. So many things about this movie were genuinely sweet and wonderful. It's the kind of movie you want to go see when you need to be reminded that when someone truly loves you, there's nothing that person won't do for you. I left the theater feeling lifted and lighter.

    mature filmmaking

    by Del Gue

For people who want to see a hilarious comedy, you'll be disappointed. Are there some very funny moments? Yes. But the comedy is dark and a lot of the funny dialog is subtle and abstract and exists to provide relief from some very sad and potentially anxious scenes. A funnier movie would have made for a movie you'd watch on the Lifetime network that would be described as "zany" and "wacky." The main characters' emotional and mental issues are realistic and speak to feelings we all have. They are surviving and healing after emotional derailment. Well crafted dialog with all the right words at the right time. A strong movie with dark elements peppered with timely levity to lighten the load. Strong acting, without overacting, and great chemistry between the two lead roles. Good pace, never boring and it's not too long.

    Beautifully done on all counts

Not sure what to expect before sitting down in the theatre, but the story, and its characters drew me in and I was completely engaged during the whole film. These people, beautifully played by all involved, seemed real. My emotions were completely locked up in their happiness (while reminding myself that this is just a movie.) It's dramatic, funny, and so well crafted, especially the writing. Major kudos go out to David O. Russell (writer), DeNiro and Bradley Cooper. A MUST SEE.

Relatable Characters and Story about a Sensitive Subject

I disagree completely with people who say that this is a difficult movie for those who've been surrounded by or suffered from mental illness to watch. If anything, this movie finally addresses mental illness in a meaningful, humane, and sometimes humorous way. Having grown up in a loving home surrounded by persons with mental illness, it really struck a chord for me. For the first time, I wasn't ashamed to talk about my brilliant but troubled family. The screenplay is well-written and the cast is superb. This movie deserves every accolade it receives.

    Worth Seeing

    by Agrelou

The first 1/3 is hard to watch due to the psychic pain Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence's characters go through. This movie is worth going just for the acting. If Jennifer Lawrence does not win an Oscar there should Bradley Cooper, Jacki Weaver and, of course Robert DeNiro, are all excellent. h, and the story is great also.

Most human film of the year!

    by

Silver Linings Playbook is about two troubled people stuck in a bad place. Pat (Bradley Cooper), who is bipolar eventually finds peace in the arms of Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a whore widow of a local cop. This is the most adult performance of hers so far and she knocks it out of the park. She could easily get that Oscar nod in her performance. A laugh out loud movie, funny and gut wrenching at times with just the right amount of material to be intriguing and not overly depressing, ?Silver Linings Playbook? is one of the most realistic and human films of the year.

    Must Go for Eagles Fans

Silver Linings was very comfortable for me, being a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. I'm not sure how that backstory will play for fans of other teams. Everyone does a great job in this movie, not just Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro but all the supporting players as well. Jennifer Lawrence is fantastic. She stretches and plays a character with the facets and depth that are normally not required of trendy young actresses. Bravo all.

    Silver Linings

Wow! Great acting, story and talent... It was heart touching to me so much that I cried on the way home and even dreamed about how special love can be.
Not for kids; the "f" word was used a lot.

    Absolutely Loved this

    by Kilgi

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were both spectacular in the lead roles and Jennifer Lawrence looked absolutely gorgeous. Robert Deniro was awesome as the father and I have to say I loved this movie more than any other movie that I have seen this year. I laughed the whole movie and this is what a best picture should look like! Cant wait to see it again.

    Great movie and and acting!

    by

Enjoyed this movie immensely. I got absorbed in the story and was rooting for the characters. Thought the mom was great?wanting the best for her son while worrying that he may not have the strength. The movie dealt with so many emotions, all so human, that I just fell right into it and enjoyed every minute. And I think so did everyone in the theater,...a packed house. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were outstanding. Chris Tucker was hilarious. And as always, De Niro was awesome. All the actors worked so well together. I've told all my friends they have to go see Silver Linings Playbook.
