    OK at best

This is no more than an OK movie at best. I do not understand the hype. The story was unemotional, although Robert De Niro did a good job. It seemed like an amateur B movie throughout. None of the characters were convincing. I really would not even recommend it.

    Realistic

Very accurate portrayal of bi-polar behavior. It does have a "Hollywood ending"; however, it could and does happen to the very lucky. The acting is outstanding!

    Silver Linings

    by

Nothing but a bunch of people talking irradicly and nervous. Surprised DeNiro stooped so low. Made no sense what so ever. We left after 25 minutes of watching this bunch of neurotics. What a rip-off. Acting was decent but the story was lousy. I wouldn't waste my money, again.

Made me nervous but was won in the end

    by

I had to see this movie since it was recommended by everyone I knew plus with the Oscar nominations, how could I not? My husband and I saw the movie last night and his comment was that he was glad he didn't know anything about the movie beforehand or else he probably wouldn't have wanted to see it. But he enjoyed it as much as I did. All the Oscar nominations are deserved.

It's not easy watching at times. I agree with one reviewer who mentioned in some scenes the director might have been on the brink of losing control but, just in the nick of time, brought everyone, the audience included, back to their senses. It all seems very real. It's very thought provoking and is well worth the ticket price.

    Great flick!

My husband and I enjoyed this immensely. Great story. Good characters. Nice acting. Definitely just for adults, but primarily due to language. Not offended by a lot of raunchy humor.

    Gotta just Love Jennifer Lawrence!

Very well done flick with some decent humor and well placed drama. Not a huge fan of Mr. Hangover, but Jen Lawrence is way too good to ever think about passing. She is amazing in it, and deserves some well earned recong! Go see it, it's a feel goody

    Not What I Was Expecting

    by

This movie was pretty slow moving but I do have to say the characters were very real. The plot isn't very creative but tells a tale about dysfunction in a very straightforward approach that has great actors showing us what great acting really likes like.

No action, no violence (mild mild fight scenes), no lurid sex, no overt cussing. Just good acting and development of a love story.

Okay for kids but might get figgity as it could be boring for youngsters.

    Silver Linings Playbook

Over-hyped as a deep study of psychology and healing, this is a
conventional, manipulative, over-scripted couples film that runs about
as deep as a bowl of all-Bran 9see that famous diner scene).

The performances, which the Weinsteins have
marketed into four undeserved Academy Award acting nominations, are perfectly
serviceable to this light weight comedy, but can we all stop taking
ourselves and this kind of laugh track fare so seriously?

At least Pi and Lincoln ARE serious, while Argo is a better film by far.

I'l Pass was my opinion before seeing it

Another "Beautiful Mind" RomDrama? Not for me.

    But that isn't this story.

It is a story of two people, carrying the battle damage from life's events, who get lost in themselves. Too bad Oscars don't have an "Ensemble" category, because this movie would surely win it. Not a Bradley Cooper fan, but after this, maybe becoming one. Certainly now a Jennifer Lawrence fan now. De Niro? You are seriously going to question a movie chosen by De Niro for some of his best work? Not me, anymore. Jackie Weaver as the meddling hovering Mom hits a new personal best. Chris Tucker hits his supporting role out of the park, while Julia Stiles has survived Bourne to become a ball busting sister-in-law who still loves you (good to see this talented actress getting work. Where is her leading role?).

In the climax of the movie, where everything is on the line for everyone, and hearts get ripped apart, if you don't cry, you may not be human.

    Only the Dysfunctional Survive

The sum of its parts was greater than the whole. The writing was good, the direction was very good, the acting was excellent...and yet I was left with an empty feeling and a lingering doubt about its efficacy and its impact for the audience.
Whether you fall into the dysfunctional category or not, this film will make you uncomfortable. And perhaps that's the point. But some of the connectors were not very realistic nor believable such as the hovering of the police officer near the family after he came home or the amazingly strict enforcement of an order of protection or the lack of police action after the Eagle's fight.
The acting was superb throughout with the exception of the brother whose part was poorly written and clumsily delivered. Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro deserve Oscar nods for their work.
Not for elementary and middle schoolers but mature high schoolers will appreciate this as well as adults in any family who feels they have "crazy" members.

    The agony and the ecstasy/

good movie. ONe would almost think that Robert de Niro had planned the cast and chemistry starting several years ago when he met with Bradley Cooper to tell him to plug on with acting.
Initially it started out with the real grimness of mental illness, male chauvinism, etv, but turned into something very sweet (funny to see Julia Stiles hanging out while Jennifer Lawrence does the dancing)
Good date movie if you have the patience for it.

    Silver Linings Playbook...a great movie

This movie was very good. The storyline was quite different, but interesting. The acting was excellent. They could have eliminated some of the four letter words and it would have been just as enjoyable. It's a very human, compassionate story line.

    Oscar worthy?

    by

I love Jennifer but the movie just didn't do it or me. I had a hard time liking any of the characters...and I will admit I don't understand the mental illnesses that these people are suffering, so maybe that is why I was at a loss to understand the movie.

Both career performances for Jennifer and Bradley. The way the movie was made really made it feel like you were with them in the movie and it was real. Superb acting amazing cast, can't go wrong.

A Romantic Comedy for our times

A romantic comedy that addresses the quirkiness and reality of a real family in Philadelphia.
Cooper, Lawrence, DeNiro and the entire cast were near perfection as they deal with the sensitive issues surrounding a family grappling with mental health issues. GO SEE IT!
