    Silver linings playbook indeed!

I'm not a big fan of two-hour movies, football, or dancing which are all big parts of this movie, but this is not a something where you wonder why you wandered in. There were even some funny parts like where she (Tiffany - Jennifer Lawrence) expains how she lost her job and the football fan brawl, but no one in the sparse audience laughed. Robert Di Nero is great as the dad. If you're a rabid football fan, especially of the Philadelphia Flyers, you'll love his character even more. It would be a valid criticism to say this is a mighty optimistic view of mental illness, you could even say it trivializes the issue. The characters become high-functioning in months where in the real world - well you don't have to look very far. However, maybe this is how it should go. Technically there is nudity, but I had to think about it to figure out where.

I thought this movie depicted mental illness (bi-polar disorder) just brilliantly, but what I remember best is the wonderfully loving way people treated each other in this movie. I feel a warm rush of affection for it even weeks later.

    Definitely In!

Movie was very good. It is a dark comedy..... Some situations are sad, but humorous. Thought Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were excellent opposite each other. They should do another flick together. Movie makes you laugh and cry. Didn't realize how sexy and sensual Jennifer is. WOW

"Oh No" excepy fo last 15 Minutes of "So-So/Go"

Likeable actors playing unlikeable, hard to watch, and hard to believe mental illness roles. First 3/4 of movie plot/dialogue is punishing bad (really wanted to leave and go get our money back), with the last 1/4 turning abruptly acceptable. Poorly written screenplay probably began with writing the turnaround and semi-sappy ending, and then threw together some ridulous crap for the beginning and middle for filler. Some nice acting moments and a few laughs along the way. Sad to see the talents of Dinero, and others, willing to participate in this type of substandard storytelling.

    Silver Linings Playbook

Good story well told. Whole new side of Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence is sensational--she is likely to get Oscar nom for this part. DeNiro is best we have seen in a long time. Funny, poignant, and good look into dealing with mental challenges too.

    I loved it.

    Nice surprise.

My wife talked me into going. While the plot was somewhat predictable, the acting was quite good, especially Brad Cooper. I found myself engaged the entire time.

    I laughed AND cried

A very entertaining and finely casted film. Great for the holiday season, or any season at all for that matter. Jennifer Lawrence and Brad Cooper have great chemistry.

    Fun movie!

We liked the movie a lot! Bradley and Jennifer were amazing and perfectly cast in these parts, and it was SO FUN watching our neighborhood in a movie! If we hadn't read the book first we would have loved the movie more. The book was so rich in so many ways, and the movie watered it down and changed it a lot. But for all the liberties taken, it was a movie both men and women will enjoy, and my husband and I would definitely recommend.

    Fantastic Characters

    by nadw73

I found this to be a very enjoyable character-driven film. It's over-arching theme focuses on how we are all, in our own ways, "crazy." A true-to-life depiction of both bi-polar and depression. Excellent performances by Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence & Robert DeNiro. I loved the climax of the story; people in the theater I was in were actually clapping! This is a must see!

    Perfect.

It was hysterical and heartwarming while being incredibly dramatic and intense at the same time. There were parts I thought that my heart was going to shoot out of my chest.

Bradley Cooper reached an entire new level. He's gorgeous and just one look on his face and you are transported to his side of the story. Same with Jennifer Lawrence. Both actors are perfect.

It's so real and this is an especially perfect movie for anyone with mental instabilities.

    Great movie

Excellent performance by the entire cast. Refreshing to see some real acting instead of the action movies that we've be inundated with over the last year or two.

    Great Movie!

I think this is the Oscar film of the year! I felt so many emotions. It is a story about life, real life, and how we deal and cope with these obstacles. Deniro cracked me up! Jennifer Lawrence was superb, and Bradley Cooper, wow, who knew he could act, I was impressed. I think you must see this wonderful story.

    One-half a Movie

    by wfh30

The film starts out effectively with some excellent acting by the major figures. About mid-way it falls apart into complete un-believability, and it collapses into nonsense at the end. The story is at fault, not the actors. I am surprised it received any Oscar nominations, especially one for adaptation.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS MOVIE. It was an insult to our intelligence by the use of the F-word and the S-word in just about every sentence, literally. Granted, we didn't have to go because we knew it was R-rated, and it's not like we've never been to an R-rated movie before, but this should have been rated F for filth. My husband and I went to the movie based on all of the good reviews by other movie reviewers and were sorely disappointed and felt cheated. To be assaulted verbally on every turn is uncalled for and we immediatey left that sorry excuse for a movie. Why do writers and actors feel they have to sink to such low levels to be popular and bring in the dollars? It's like a bad taste that will not go away! The storyline was a good one but was ruined by bad innuendoes and horrible languange. Bring back the decency...

    Refreshing and honest

It is refreshing to see a film like this get nominated for an Oscar. Not only is it unpretentious, but it is also honest and well portrayed. Yes, it has that rom/com flavor peppering the surface, but when you really pay attention it's actually just like life. It's crazy, not always as it seems, and the least expected experiences always end up being just what you needed.

With that said, Lawrence and Cooper were both great. However, I think that De Niro stole the show. He played that character so well, and a tear or two fell due to his delivery. The rest of the supporting cast also did a great job, (especially his mother), and no character felt underdeveloped or unnecessary to me. Also, good call casting Julia Stiles and Lawrence's older sister; it's uncanny how much they look like they are related!

Didn't feel as long as it is, was entertaining and moving, and was worth the ticket price. All that adds up to a Must Go! for me. So...GO!
