Different from the Book but Still Good

This movie was totally different from the book which I read last year and couldn't put down. But even though the movie story differed from the book, it was still good! I enjoyed seeng the local area where it was filmed -- Highland Park, Llanerch Diner, Lansdowne Avenue Business District. Also, my husband was an extra in the dance scene and we could actually see him in the Ben Franklin Ballroom. A very satisfying story -- Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Jackie Weaver and especially Jennifer Lawrence all deserve Oscar nominations. DeNiro was especially touching when he talked about missing out on young Pat's youth and wanting to connect with him now before it was too late -- I never saw DeNiro cry in a movie before. I'm still trying to figure out who Randy was, though!

    Silver Linings PLaybook

This is a solid movie. at heart, it's a romance but it revolves around people who are or have been persoanlly damaged and who are working their way through it. Family plays a large part and demonstrates that being off kilter a bit can depend at least in part in your gene pool. Hard to believe butthis is a feel-good movie. I suspect that it hasn't been seen by nearly enough people so while it's on and still the focus of the upcoming Oscars, treat yourself to this film, so well imagined and so well executed.

    So,Cry, Already

Didn't cry during "Lincoln." Didn't cry during "Argo." Didn't see Les Miz. Cried when Jennifer Lawrence heard Bradley Cooper tell her he loved her. Damn! That's a great movie!

    Great and Unique Movie

    by ihea

This is one of those great movies that stay with you for a long time. I don't know how to define it: a dramedy? It has mental illness, sports, dancing and hilarious banter between the two leads. Great that a movie with complex characters can still be made. Fantastic performances by the whole cast, go see it for yourself!

    Hits Close to Home

Literally, as it was filmed in various locations in my neighborhood! But that's not why this is an amazing movie. It really isn't what is perceived to be a romantic comedy--there are some really intense, realistic scenes that show the humor is what is an unfortunate situation (thus, the title of the movie). So even though life gives us obstacles, it's the ability to see that good can come from them. Bradley Cooper is OUTSTANDING and Jennifer Lawrence is so incredibly charming. All deserve the accolades and I wish this movie was nominated for more! You will laugh and be so inspired by this film. It's a very typical theme that Philadelphians can especially identify with--meaning that hard-working, blue-collared people with a history of having to fight hard just for small gains (i.e. freedom of our country, a sports championship) can reap rewards and benefits of life if they focus on the small goals and not necessarily the big overall picture. Do not miss this one!!!

    Something I could relate to!

It gave names to the actions and traits that have been seen in so many over the years. It gave such positive feelings that situations are not hopeless. Overcoming the labels and people's perceptions can sometimes be the obstacles. I loved it!

    Silver Linings

This movie is a real sleeper. We hope more people get to see it. It is unusual today to see a really enjoyable movie that does not rely on guns to be exciting.

Silver Linings Playbook is a Must See!

    by

Fantastic movie. A must see. Loved it. The best movie I've seen in a long time. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were brilliant. Robert DeNiro was icing on the cake. The storyline was superb. Don't miss this movie. The best love story to come along since The Notebook. My eyes welled with happiness at the ending.

    A beauty of a film

    by UEGDSW

The mental illness is terrifically and accurately portrayed. The direction is sensitive and tense, with splendid acting all around, and great camerawork. All nominees are more than deserving. The script is brilliant using unique content to capture real family interactions with tensions, misunderstandings, unspoken themes, and tons of humor. Let's not forget the hope portrayed in the movie. A beauty of a film visiting so many aspects of contemporary life too numerous to list -- the sports metaphor, family roles, earning a living, loss.

    Refreshing and honest

It is refreshing to see a film like this get nominated for an Oscar. Not only is it unpretentious, but it is also honest and well portrayed. Yes, it has that rom/com flavor peppering the surface, but when you really pay attention it's actually just like life. It's crazy, not always as it seems, and the least expected experiences always end up being just what you needed.

With that said, Lawrence and Cooper were both great. However, I think that De Niro stole the show. He played that character so well, and a tear or two fell due to his delivery. The rest of the supporting cast also did a great job, (especially his mother), and no character felt underdeveloped or unnecessary to me. Also, good call casting Julia Stiles and Lawrence's older sister; it's uncanny how much they look like they are related!

Didn't feel as long as it is, was entertaining and moving, and was worth the ticket price. All that adds up to a Must Go! for me. So...GO!

    Common theme, uncommonly presented

    by VMI70

You've seen the general plot line before but the nature of the people involved is a little different and the acting is excellent. A commom story theme played out in the lives of people Hollywood would not commonly present and acted by uncommonly good actors.

These are people all of us have known in our lives, but rarely have seen in the world of movies.

    THROUGHLY ENTERTAINING...

    by DBee

What a treat to see an American made film that is able to touch on so many different human
frailties and with a touch of humor. Terrific performances by all, particularly Bradley Cooper because he is able to portray the character so well. Very well written script, well edited and
    well acted. It's a winner.
