Too much of a relationship movie

I thought maybe there would be a better family story but so much about two people. disappointing. I can't beleive it is a nomination for best picture. Nothing new here. Same old relationship movie. .

    A feel great movie!

    by

I guess I have been living under a rock because I wasn't aware of the mental illness plot of the story before going to the movie. Had only heard that it was a great flick and it certainly didn't disappoint. I suffer from bipolar illness (have for over 20 years) so I could really relate with Bradley Cooper's character. Unlike him though, I have only been in psych wards for relatively short lengths of time and I take my meds religiously. Jennifer Lawrence was so incredibly good that I think she will walk away with the Oscar handilly. Both my husband and I enjoyed the movie and the acting overall was just superb. I left the theater feeling fantastic and I can't recall a recent movie being so uplifting while including real life issues in the way this drama did. I will be watching the Academy Awards and hoping this wins the best picture category. Well done!!

    Truly awesome story!

I went to see Bradley Cooper, who is just so cute! I was quite surprised that the story was so wonderful and engrossing. I particularly liked the end of the movie. It was such a surprise! These two actors were totally amazing, way beyond my expectations. It was sad to see DeNiro looking so old and pathetic. The premise of the movie was believable and the people depicted within were normal people with normal problems. I absolutely loved this movie and am sure to watch it over and over again. Will definitely end up as a DVD on my shelf.

    Silver Linings Playbook

This is a fun movie. I loved the chemistry between Tiffany and Pat. This was a cute date movie. Tiffany and Pat were a little over the top, but a funny look at mental illness. DeNiro is always great and so was Delores his wife. I thought it was a great story that was played out well. I was surprised at the ending though.

    A tour de force

    by jr_107

Exceptional movie. it is a Tour De Force of unstoppable humanity in the face of emotional defeat. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence provide over the top performances and their chemistry is pure hot fusion. Bradley Cooper's portrayal of Pat Solatano is pure genius - he is that guy -- a bi-polar obsessive compulsive who just got out of a mental institution and is intent on getting his life back. Jennifer Lawrence is his mirror opposite and when the two get together for unfiltered conversation -- it moves you to a depth very rarely ever achieved in cinema. You have got to see this Movie!!!

    Riveting

Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro play their roles so authentically and with great grit. This characterization of emotionally challenged souls could easily pander and go askew, but none of these actors ever lose touch with the humanity of their character. I remained riveted through the movie; never distracted, never lost. What a masterful performance, by these three and by all.

    Bradley Cooper was surprisingly good!

    by

So, before this movie, I never really thought much of Bradley Cooper as an actor. Sure, he was good in The Hangover, but I didn't expect him to be so believable as a guy with bipolar disorder. He was better than believable. He was really, really good. All this in spite of a script that was mostly good, but sometimes tried too hard, had some serious holes in it, and some pretty bad moments of dialogue, especially for Jennifer Lawrence's character.

Still, Cooper's performance and the movie overall were worth seeing. I even liked Robert Deniro, who I don't usually like in most movies since he always plays the same character. But here he was likable and also believable as Cooper's dad, who has his own "issues" to deal with. I would rate the movie a solid B+, with Cooper's acting as an A.

    Silver Linings: Thunderstorms to Rainbows

    by HP11

What a terrifically satisfying movie! Fantastic, my hubby and I agree. Pat Solitano's (Bradley's Cooper's) gaze, have to say, transfixed me. The director made the most of Cooper's magnetic eyes; his facial closeups took me into his world fast--and I nearly drowned in the ferocity and clip of his lines. I barely moved a muscle I was so focused on what was going on inside this character. Pat Solitano, Sr. (Robert DeNiro ) had enough quirks to keep things in perspective about "crazy" behavior--and was an amusing balance to Pat Jr.Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) was absolutely perfect and wonderful. A gust of energy, she is honest, raw, flippant, and sensuous without even trying. With her own issues, perfect counterbalance for Pat. I also enjoyed the performances of Pat's mother (Jacki Weaver)-very believable; Dr. Cliff Patel (Anuham Kher)--great lines performed perfectly; and Danny (Chris Tucker)--loved his lines and his energy. I love him to pieces, how could you not?

Like an old car....took time to warm up

    by feebs20

after the first 45 minutes the thought of walking out crossed my mind as my 19 year old
daughter made her boredom clear in the seat next to me. we were spending our day
watching a man and his disfunctional family navigate the misery of their individual illnesses.
not enjoyable. but then suddenly the movie took off and became funny, poinant and enjoyable. hang in there, worth the wait.

    Hidden Gem of the Year

This is a fantastic little movie that everyone should see. It's a rom-com, but atypical --- it's unconventional and quirky. A bit of a sappy ending doesn't detract from how fun the rest of it is. Brilliant performances by Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. I'm afraid this will be overlooked in awards season by some of the more blockbuster movies with bigger names, but aside from Lincoln, this should be the picture of the year. Give it your support in the theater and go see it!

    Silver Linings Reality Check

Movie was tender-hearted portrayal of the pain and difficulty people and families live when confronting and dealing with issues of mental health and relationships. Rich with interactions between characters that will make you cringe and at the same time feel the pain, suffering and genuine love between them. I loved it!
