    Great acting and entertaining

Although the movie had gotten great reviews, I was somewhat skeptical based upon the brief storyline in the review section of the newspapers and on line. To my surprise, It was terrific; and I loved it. The acting by Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro was just outstanding. When you add a warm and touching storyline, you end up with a movie that you must see.

    Silver Linings Playbook

Good movie but I wasn't completely bowled over about the storyline like everyone else seems to be. The acting was amazing and all of the actors in this movie deserve the recognition they are getting for their portrayals in this movie, but I couldn't get into believing that Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper's characters were attracted to each other. Jennifer Lawrence is amazing, but for me she was just too young to play the grieving widow opposite Bradley Cooper. Also, the storyline about the dance competition just didn't fit into the movie for me. I have never been a big fan of Chris Tucker, but he was a nice surprise as Bradley Cooper's character's best friend from the mental hospital, and I hope to see him in more serious roles in the future. Loved the on location scenes of Philadelphia, especially the ones shot in Lansdowne where my extended family lives. That was a nice surprise!

As a person that KNOWS from personal experience the dynamics.....

THIS MOVIE HAS either an UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH done or intuitive genius.

This is the TRUEST MOVIE I have ever seen. It has a million layers. From my point of view, it is not to be taken as Comedy or Romantic, but to be taken as REAL LIFE. The characters (all of them) were so true to the REALITY of the story. Maybe they knew it, or maybe not, it doesn't matter. THIS FILM SHOULD BE SEEN and thought about by the whole world.

    Gritty

    by

I tend to prefer a more romantic feel-good type of movie. That being said, this one was a bit too emotionally raw and gritty. Leaves you kinda sorta feeling good. Maybe. :/

    A Real Must See

I hesitated to go see this movie because I thought the subject matter would be a downer. It was a serious subject, but was told with humor, laughter, sincerity and realism. I thoroughly enjoyed it. All of the actors were great. But Jennifer Lawrence just blew me away. She nailed the emotions of her character so vividly and realistically. I will watch anything she plays in. I think she deserves the best actress Oscar award. You will leave this movie with a smile on your face and feeling uplifted about life and humanity. I definitely recommend it!

Great movie! We are still talking about it!

I knew the movie was about mental illness and it felt pretty raw at the beginning. The backdrop of their brokenness set the stage perfectly for one of the best movies I have seen in years. Silver Linings Playbook has it all. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were better than ever. It is hilarious and tender, fun and heart wrenching at the same time! One of the best!

Made me nervous but was won in the end

    by

I had to see this movie since it was recommended by everyone I knew plus with the Oscar nominations, how could I not? My husband and I saw the movie last night and his comment was that he was glad he didn't know anything about the movie beforehand or else he probably wouldn't have wanted to see it. But he enjoyed it as much as I did. All the Oscar nominations are deserved.

It's not easy watching at times. I agree with one reviewer who mentioned in some scenes the director might have been on the brink of losing control but, just in the nick of time, brought everyone, the audience included, back to their senses. It all seems very real. It's very thought provoking and is well worth the ticket price.

    So cute!

The movie was very good and there is so much chemistry between Brad Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence! The story flowed well and it was funny in certain places quite serious in others. Also one of Robert DiNero's better roles with him as an "older" man. I really forget how excellent he can be. Go see it!

    Dramatic, Real, Funny

    by ldar23

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are convincing in their roles and Robert DeNiro is perfect in his role, adding complexity and comedy to the relationships. Background of the Philadelphia Eagles and their fanatic fans confirms what I've heard, even from from Eagles friends. Recommend this film; I liked it for its serious look at the wonder of the human spirit.

I would not recommend for children or young teens; older teens ok.

    Excellent on so many levels

    by dmenton

My daughter age 23, and myself age 58 both loved this movie. One of those movies you don't want to end. The story and the acting touched many emotions. In my circle of family and friends i cannot think of anyone who wouldn't enjoy it. A definite must see again.

    silver linings playbook

Great movie, it was so entertaining that I didn't even fall asleep which is a rarity. My husband and I just loved it. Robert Dinero is great and the woman who played his wife did a fantastic job in her portrayal of a ditzy wife who had not musch say so in what goes on. The girl who is a want to be dancer is beautiful and did a fantastic job playing crazy..Sorry bit I never know the names of actors..The movie is a must see. The ywo hours seemed lik 1 hour as the time went so fast. That is always a tell tale sign that the movie is good. I give it a 10!

    Fantastic

    by

For all of the people that don't fit in to "normal" standards, this is a romance for them. Can't just call it a romance, it incorporates so many other factors and would do a disservice to the actors. What a great cast! I have to say, I wasn't a big Jennifer Lawrence fan, but she gets kudos in this movie! Robert DeNiro and Bradley Cooper show so much emotion, it's unreal. I read a review where he spoke about the physical presence and toll that's required for this movie... It must've been exhausting! Great movie, though :)

Great movie! Oscar nomination definitely worthy!!!

This was a great movie. To see Bradley Cooper play a solid character without the loads of humor he is known for was a great casting. The whole cast was great, but I must say that Robert Di Nero was on point with his character. He showed authentic moods and behaviors that a father...an accepting father, would feel in his situation. Although the movie didn't go into the family dynamics deep enough, one would get the feeling of family and acceptance/love. It is a must see not to disappoint.

    Head Shaker - Uneven

    by RBRB

Movie started out strong with a realistic portrayal of (severe) mental illness and its effects on family and friends, great writing, direction, and spot-on performances by Cooper and Lawrence. First 2/3 of the movie was well done and drew you in, enough to make you uncomfortable during certain scenes [excellent] .

But then..........somebody apparently decided it was too serious and changed the direction of the movie into a farce rom-com. ??? It went from an emotionally acurate account of two people with almost insurmountable bi-polar, depression, and anxiety issues to........ a dance competition to save dad's restaurant. Seriously. And Coopers character's bi-polar and manic issues magically disappeared without benefit of medication, therapy, or intervention.

Who knocked it out of the park in this movie? Jennifer Lawrence nailed it, due to her tremendous acting range and the fact that her character was written consistantly from beginning to end.

Great Cast, long story about a group of troubled souls

If you spent 5 minutes with any of these characters in real life, you'd likely make up an excuse to be somewhere else and RUN. Easy to see why Hollywood likes this sort of plot device with deeply disfunctional charater collisions but calling it a comedic is a stretch even by its standards. Ending very predictable, Every character we meet needs years of therapy...I wanted therapy after suffering thru it. One "review" even described it as "feel good." I didn't...just grateful I don't know any of these characters.
