Silver Linings Takes Gold
Once in awhile a film comes around where every frame is a small success unto the success of the whole. "Silver Linings Playbook" is such a film. It's a film that doesn't ask one to work too hard. It does most o the work for you. All that's needed from the viewer are eyes and ears and the desire to be told an engaging story of contemporary Americana that uncoils like a fern after a long winter. It boasts a diverse cast of characters whose lines are delivered so that we empathize, no matter their level of integrity. It's a film that gives us laughs, tears, love, anger, poetry, art, absurdity and human intrigue. Like "Little Miss Sunshine," "American Beauty," and "The Kids Are Alright" that preceded it, "Silver Linings Playbook" sticks with you for a time. It puts a charge in you. You feel better for having seen it. It's the kind of film that reminds you that life is worth living regardless of its challenges. But it's not so heavy so as to cling. It is relatable entertainment.
