    Proud to be an American

    by

While I don't think that anyone is expecting too much from this remake, you shouldn't been disappointed with it when it's over either. As far as have the meat and potatoes to a decent action movie, it has it - along with a nice patriotic punch that few movies seem to carry these days. You have your straight-up action, which is good and not too cheesy; you have your hot chicks, with Adrianne Palicki being overlooked terribly too often in this arena; and you have your poor excuse for character development. Here's where Red Dawn actually has the advantage that many recent action films have completely looked over: patriotism. This movie has a real-life, common enemy in North Korea. There's no ambiguity like Hollywood enjoys so much to do these days, trying to make good guys seem bad or vice versa. There is a clear-cut team of good guys and bad guys and it's awesome. I may never go out of my way to watch this film again, but I can guarantee that I'll sit through it years from now on TV.

    Seriously

I really really wanted this movie to be good. But it was the worst remake of a movie I have ever seen. They could have done soooo much more with this movie. I couldn?t get over the guy from Drake and Josh was the lead. Totally lame. It was cheap, with no thought what so ever about a realistic plot. My high school class made a better version of Red Dawn for film class. Save your money and watch the original.

    Kill a Commie for Mommy!

Great shoot-em up with lots of action and patriotism woven in. If you are a leftist....move on and go see the Life Of Pi. If you have red, white and blue blood watch it twice or more!

    Disappointing

I loved the original and looked forward to seeing this movie but it simply was not as good. On it's own merrit I found the movie to be illogical, and overly simplistic and could never get "into" it. The director didn't fully develop the story line and spent too much time on relationships betwee characters which diluted the plot. I don't believe people committed to gorilla warfare, living in the forrest trying to survive could focus on anything else, like personal relationships and playing practical jokes on each other. I never felt the characters were focused on their stated objective.

    I Liked It

I liked it but I think the first one was better, C Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze and couple other young actors, being that it was a time of cold war and easier to believe such a thing could happen. The good stuff were the action scenes and cinematography, the bad stuff were the drama scenes after the battles. Oh ya one more thing, it might be more for young teens seeing that the plot, story had to do with high school kids.

    Red Dawn

    by joanwga

This version was much better than the first. It was well written. Even though I'd seen the first version and knew the story and characters, there was still suspense. This version connected on a more emotional level than the first. The acting was much better than the first. I hadn't planned on going to see it at the theater, but I'm glad I did. It's worth it, even if you saw the first one. I think this may the first remake that I actually like better than the first.

Decent, but it compares poorly to the original

The movie was entertaining even with some technical problems with the plot and development of the story.

The original was not the best movie ever made but it did a better job with developing the characters and story. It was just more believable

A Fast, Fun Ride through a Shallow Plot

    by

This movie was a blast. There are no deep, soul-searing moments of self-realization or anything, although the movie may raise some questions when we look at the heroes and realize they are what we call 'insurgents' when they're on the enemy side. This is briefly touched upon but mostly it's just a fast-paced, little-character-development, adrenaline-candy of a film. My biggest complaint would be that the casting of the little brother was terrible. I found myself wondering if he had been adopted. The two don't even speak as if they hail from the same region of the country, and one looks like they probably found him running a shell game in the Bronx, while the other looks like a corn-fed Nebraska boy. This might not be so bad if not for the presence of Josh Hutcherson who has the Hunger Games billing to his credit and also looks like a corn-fed Nebraska boy. It just seemed to perpetually accentuate the complete incongruity of the brothers they cast.

    Not bad

I'm not going to give it RAVE reviews (like I did The Avengers) but it was a good movie nonetheless. I will without a doubt be adding this one to my DVD collection when the time comes.

    Don't compare it.

Don't compare it to the original just go and enjoy it. Moves pretty quickly but good action throughout. If you've got a a couple of hours to kill you could do worse .....(killing them softly). I give it a B...enjoy.

    very entertaining.

    by

Overall, the film was very good. There were several moments where I felt my heart rate increased because the next scenes were so unpredictable. The acting was solid, and you really got an image of "bad" in the bad guys. It's a great film that boosted my pride in being an American and the sense of resolve for those fighting for their home town.

    RED DAWN

This remake is slightly better than the first one. The concept is still unbelievable; but hey, it is what it is. The acting was fine, nothing spectacular; but OK. I still have to ask where were the American military during this takeover by North Koreians of all countries. If you want to see some action scenes and don't care about a film being real, then go and enjoy this one.

    SBM (Dawn of many sequels)

Red Dawn 2012 is a decent modern day adaptation of the 1984 classic. Dialog and relationships are as weak as you remember, making room for relatively tense action scenes. Marvel comics potential influence is an ironic underpinning, with the hero role played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and his gang of rebels taking on the moniker "Wolverines". Yes, I know that falls in with the original story, but the irony cannot be overlooked.

I left feeling a bit cheated. Just as the action gets rolling the film ends. In fact, the last inspirational speech was extremely poor.

    Red Dawn Shines!

    by

Let me start off by saying I have never seen the original nor am I comparing it to the original. That being said, this movie was incredibly well done. At the beginning they showed everyone in the high school environment and it didnt seem genuine like high school today. But as soon as the first scene was over, its 100% action for the rest of the movie. Chris Hemsworth is the returned home marine older brother to Josh Peck. They gather some of their friends and name themselves the "Wolverines," their school mascot. A lot of gun action, explosions, and it was beautiful. Definitely worth going to the movies for. Red Dawn is one of the best movies out in theaters now.

    Pretty Good

It's a pretty good movie. The idea of the US being invaded and it's citizens having to defend it is scary but makes for a good story. Plenty of loopholes and some things weren't explained. The original is still a classic and still my favorite but this one isn't so bad and it's worth watching.
