Standard reboot that does not live up to the original, but still entertains.
The original Red Dawn will never be surpassed in the minds of those who saw it in theaters or soon after it came out on DVD/VHS. In order for any reboot to surpass the original, it has to hit every high mark which is nearly impossible.
That being said, this movie on its own was an enjoyable, with good acting, and good effects.
I enjoyed the whole cast, but would have liked to see more character development and a darker, grittier storyline. But, it was enjoyable, with a few unexpected plot turns that made it stand out from the original.
My only major disappointment with this movie is that it did not give the viewer anytime on the other side. We go almost no character development on the enemies and collaborators, which would have deepened the story. It was a waste of a few good actors who portrayed characters who fell on the other side for various reasons. Even this was explored more in the original movie.
I would still give this movie a strong 3.5 stars
