    Laughing my a$$ off!

    by

So I will only go see this to find out how Hollywood thinks Spokane looks because guess what the movie wasn't even shot here it was shot somewhere in the Midwest. The previews I have seen it looks nothing like Spokane and I am highly intrigued to see if the actors can even say the name right. Thank you Hollywood for the laugh.

    awesome movie

this movie is a great one. Chris Hemsworth acting was on point, Josh peck really improved since drake and josh in acting, and not to forget Josh Hutcherson who was really funny and great acting in this movie. All versatile actors/actresses.

    very entertaining.

    by

Overall, the film was very good. There were several moments where I felt my heart rate increased because the next scenes were so unpredictable. The acting was solid, and you really got an image of "bad" in the bad guys. It's a great film that boosted my pride in being an American and the sense of resolve for those fighting for their home town.

    Surprisingly Good Remake

This was a good remake with new people and of course the action. I agree with a couple of other comments made. It was sort of a rush through the movie. It didn't give the viewer much time to get the players. Had a different ending than the original movie. Good acting and directing. I don't know if Red Dawn 2 could come about and start where it left off but it's possible. I think if I was a producer I would consider it.

From this movie and the original a viewer should come out and even though this could never happen. Patriotism should be reenergized, which is something is sadly missing with most Americans.

    Meh.

I'm a big fan of the original version of this movie, and was really looking forward to watching the remastered version. However, it left me feeling indifferent. True, it had lots of pretty action sequences, but the plot lost a lot of impact because we never became as emotionally connected to the characters in this version as the original.

The things that they changed, they changed in a way that did nothing to help the movie and may in fact have hurt it. I still love the concept, but it left me wanting.

Scary! Could happen in the near future if we are not careful!

Incredible film! This was insightful back in 1984 when the original came out. The new ?Red Dawn? may be even more predictive of the future.
I just want to ask everyone, ?Where would the Wolverines have been if in their world, their President had been successful in the disarming of America??

    very absorbing

We watched the remake of red dawn yesterday, did not realize that that time went by. A little different from the original, but worth the money.

    Offensive to Spokane Natives

    by

The first fail of this movie is being based in Spokane, Washington, but being filmed in Michigan. The second fail is this film being played in Spokane, Washington. As a Spokane resident it is offensive to watch a film based in Spokane, but not seeing Spokane. The acting was not very good. Josh Peck? He had his prime in Drake & Josh. Chris Hemsworth delivered the best performance in this movie, with the other characters being no-name actors or people introduced too late in the film to care. And although this is all up to an individuals opinion, I also felt the vulgarity was extreme. I'm a high school student and I heard more vulgarity in this movie than I have in the last two weeks of school. Which if you know anything about the mouths of teenagers these days, is saying a lot. So ultimatley, I say this is cheesy due to the acting, annoying due to the extreme overuse of the s word, and offensive to anyone who has any sense of pride in being a Spokanite. Wait for DVD!

    Better than the original

    by tam777

Yes you read that right, this is better than the original. I saw the original when it first came out and liked the movie very much. At the time the critics said the same things that all the critical comments are saying about this version. Some of the critical comments about the original were; "Why would the "Cubans" attack Michigan." "Too much unbelievable action." "Needs more story." "Needs to develop the characters more." Yes, all the same things they were saying about the original they are saying about this version. That was one of the first good (not great) action films made. Now we have action films coming out the wazoo and people want to hold this one to some kind of higher standard because it is a remake. Tell me what part of a Resident Evil movie is believable. What part of a Bond movie is believable. What part of a Die Hard movie is believable. None of these action movies are believable. If you like action movies this is a good one with a good story. Worth the money to see.

    SBM (Dawn of many sequels)

Red Dawn 2012 is a decent modern day adaptation of the 1984 classic. Dialog and relationships are as weak as you remember, making room for relatively tense action scenes. Marvel comics potential influence is an ironic underpinning, with the hero role played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and his gang of rebels taking on the moniker "Wolverines". Yes, I know that falls in with the original story, but the irony cannot be overlooked.

I left feeling a bit cheated. Just as the action gets rolling the film ends. In fact, the last inspirational speech was extremely poor.

    Red Dawn

It was a typical modern-day action flick. Lots of explosions, shaky-cams, overly stylized people in gritty situations. Entertaining in some spots, cheesy acting in others. Still better than other movies in its genre. Wait for it to come out on Netflix or DVD.

A good adaptation and update of a personal favorite

    by RKCH

I saw the first one when it premiered in the early 1980's and it has been one of my favorites. I was curious to see what they might do with the premise.

It was very entertaining. Chris Hemsworth was great as Jed and Adrianne Palicki as Toni were excellent. Brett Cullen was awesome as Ted Eckert, the father of Jed and Matt- he did a lot with a very small role. Josh Peck was not particularly outstanding as Matt - he looked way too young next to Hemsworth and lacked the conviction. The whole "gotta rescue Erica" subplot was distracting. Josh Hutcherson as Robert was a bit wasted - either make him the tech guru with significant contribution or let him go stark raving mad like C. Thomas Howell did in the original.

The updating required due to technology and warfare changes was generally well done. It is too bad they did not release it with the Chinese as the bad guys as filmed - a foreign policy "bow" they did not need to make.

    Action - OK

Decent flick. I am not sure I would spend the $50 to see it again. (Popcorn, Cokes and 2 Tickets)
The characters did a decent job of acting. Junior high and up would like the movie.
Still I would rate this as a go, if nothing else to see the stupid comments by Obama, Biden and Clinton.
