    Pretty Good

    by

Ok, this movie was surprisingly good. I loved the action, though it did feel like the actors couldn't or didn't really get into their roles but it was good enough. It had those sad, WTF, and funny moments. I was excited to see Chris Hemsworth and Josh Peck in this movie. There were awkward moments with the characters But overall I loved the movie and for a remake, not too bad.

    Not bad for a remake

I was concerned, because I loved the original! Although, I hated that the female characters were really effing weird in the original.

As for the new version - I really liked it, and my boys (14 and 11) loved it! Some of the things I wished had happened in the original were actually done with the newer version (like stronger, less oddball characters). It's definitely a good update!

    Seriously

I really really wanted this movie to be good. But it was the worst remake of a movie I have ever seen. They could have done soooo much more with this movie. I couldn?t get over the guy from Drake and Josh was the lead. Totally lame. It was cheap, with no thought what so ever about a realistic plot. My high school class made a better version of Red Dawn for film class. Save your money and watch the original.

    very absorbing

We watched the remake of red dawn yesterday, did not realize that that time went by. A little different from the original, but worth the money.

    Had potential

    by

For starters Chris Hemsworth - Jed Eckert, was the only decent actor in this entire movie,
Josh Peck - Matt Eckert was so obnoxious and the character development of Matt Eckert was so terrible that every time I had to sit through his teenage angst, high school lover, throw his friends under the bus, garbage acting I got overly enraged and wanted to walk out. Far cry from Charlie Sheen. Another part greatly disliked by me, was the many rediculous plot holes. "We know where they are, so lets carpet bomb them while they are under ground and not even surround the place so that 90% of them can escape". "Oh, lets place a tracker on one of them, then attack only one of them in the building, let all the others escape, then not follow them with air support so that they have enough time to realize the tracker was placed and leave the tracked man behind" " I was a marine, that means that I have special forces knowledge on Russia and can tell by what cover they are wearing that they are spetznaz"

    Wait for pay per view

There was a lot of action. The story was just ok. You get sucked into the action before you really know anyone though. Ending kinds sucked. I would wait for this to come out on pay per view.

    I Liked It

I liked it but I think the first one was better, C Thomas Howell, Patrick Swayze and couple other young actors, being that it was a time of cold war and easier to believe such a thing could happen. The good stuff were the action scenes and cinematography, the bad stuff were the drama scenes after the battles. Oh ya one more thing, it might be more for young teens seeing that the plot, story had to do with high school kids.

A Fast, Fun Ride through a Shallow Plot

    by

This movie was a blast. There are no deep, soul-searing moments of self-realization or anything, although the movie may raise some questions when we look at the heroes and realize they are what we call 'insurgents' when they're on the enemy side. This is briefly touched upon but mostly it's just a fast-paced, little-character-development, adrenaline-candy of a film. My biggest complaint would be that the casting of the little brother was terrible. I found myself wondering if he had been adopted. The two don't even speak as if they hail from the same region of the country, and one looks like they probably found him running a shell game in the Bronx, while the other looks like a corn-fed Nebraska boy. This might not be so bad if not for the presence of Josh Hutcherson who has the Hunger Games billing to his credit and also looks like a corn-fed Nebraska boy. It just seemed to perpetually accentuate the complete incongruity of the brothers they cast.

    COME ON!

    by kdtwing

if you would have made a modern day remake of the old story i would have appreciated it a lot more. And whats with the whinny kid from Nickelodeon? You ruined a cult classic. Missing critical scenes and its a completely different plot line.

    Action - OK

Decent flick. I am not sure I would spend the $50 to see it again. (Popcorn, Cokes and 2 Tickets)
The characters did a decent job of acting. Junior high and up would like the movie.
Still I would rate this as a go, if nothing else to see the stupid comments by Obama, Biden and Clinton.

    Actually pretty good!

    by jgywing

Despite what critics are saying, Red Dawn was actually a surprisingly good film! It varies significantly from the original in a way that makes it fairly unique for a remake. There were only a couple scenes that I was drawn back to the original film. This is not an oscar award winning film by any means but it was well thought out in my opinion and the graphics and war scenes seemed fairly well designed and plausible. The acting in the film was not terrible and with the story varying a bit from the original it was actually fairly suspenseful and not as predictable as one may think. They did a great job in modernizing this classic movie and if you are in to action films with similar themes than you should definitely give this movie a chance!

Should they have remade this classic?

I admit I had my doubts...this is a classic movie for me and with Patrick Swayze no longer with us, I felt this was doomed from the get go. My husband wanted to see it, so I went along for the ride and I have to say I was impressed, I thought it was a well made movie. They didn't try to "replace" the original, but they did make references which was nice. Anyways, long story short, with all the crap movies being made anymore, I liked this movie, it wasn't over the top it was a nice basic action movie.

Lukewarm reviews but I loved it.

    by

I went in with low expectations but ended up loving it. I am a bit of a survivalist at heart so I really loved the plot. Acting and plot so-so but bottom line, id go see it again. I just liked it!

    awesome movie

this movie is a great one. Chris Hemsworth acting was on point, Josh peck really improved since drake and josh in acting, and not to forget Josh Hutcherson who was really funny and great acting in this movie. All versatile actors/actresses.

A great alternative to the other "Dawn" movie.

    by

It has been a long time since I have seen the original. But when I saw that this movie was coming out, I knew I had to see it as soon as I could. The first thing that I noticed was that the beginning montage was almost ripped straight out of the Video Game Homefront. Coincidently (or not) that game had input from John Milius... the writer of the original Red Dawn.

The only real complaint that I have is during one particular action scene, the camera is too bouncy and it is hard to make out the action. Overall, though, it was a joyfull ride and very welcome. This day in age, we all need something to remind us of the fighting spirit of America.

In the end, if you crave a good action movie this holiday season, or if you are dragged to the other "Dawn" movie by your significant other, this movie makes a great alternative. You can even make a compromise... "We can see your Dawn movie, if we go to see mine as well."
