The only good thing about Red Dawn ...

    ... was that it ended.

I tried to like it, I really truly did. I'm a big fan of the original, in all its cheesily overwrought glory.

The fault isn't with the actors. To a man (or woman), they each do their best with the steaming pile of disjointed, awful claptrap they were given. I lay the blame squarely at the writers' feet.

    Lame

The special effects are the only aspect that could carry this movie as a rental dvd. The theater experience left me wondering why I wasted gas and money. The serious lack of storyline was the most obvious weakness. After the movie I found myself in comparison mode thinking the original was better....but then the whole concept of Red Dawn escapes me. After all, isn't that what we have strategic nuclear weapons for?...to prevent the very invasion of the USA by glassing over any country that would dare a move so bold

Red Dawn, a must see movie

I thought this movie was great, it did kind of make me think that there will be a part 2 because of how it ended. But I loved the action and the way the WOLVERINES came together. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD, it is a movie that i will buy.

    Another disappointing remake.

Every once in a while we get a decent remake of an older film. Sadly, this wasn't one of those times. Were it not for the recycled character names and the title, one would see very few similarities. And that's not necessarily a bad thing either, but this movie just wasn't very good.

Chris Hemsford is a convincing action movie star and he played a decent role. HIs little band of citizen soldiers made the North Koreans look like chumps. The action was pretty good, in a generic modern action movie sort of way. The movie spent way too much time on character development, and failing at it. The concept of teamwork was a recurring theme, but the story kept supporting the character who puts his personal agenda ahead of team survival.

I suppose it's okay as long as you don't pay attention to little stuff like story, theme, character or plot, and as long as you can just let action compensate for bad writing. But I'm telling my friends to skip this one and watch the original again.

    Legit

This movie was a well done action movie complete with a brilliant plot twist that I didn't see coming. The acting was great and Josh Peck did a suprisingly well job in this movie compared to his background in Drake and Josh. It was great to see him grow up. During this movie I found myself laughing out loud and tearing up all in the same scene. This movie sends a message of hope, inspiration and togetherness that Americans will always have and I think that this was DEFINATELY worth the money to go see it. BRILLIANT job. GO SEE IT..

    As Expected

Just like the original, do not go to this movie expecting to see anything close to reality. The introductory first few minutes were interesting and something the original movie lacked. This remake was largely true to the original. The original was made while I was in high school so this was my reason for going to see this remake.
I don't plan on seeing it again, although I might rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Or if your date is in love with the star of this movie take her on date night. Otherwise, i saw the original and it was better. This move was not bad its just we have seen all this before. The good points are the main hearthrob in the movie is good. Real good...when he was on i was into it. When he was not on i kept thinking these are elite soldiers against kids and well you know...i saw it for free i walked out of the Collection...see that review..good luck

This not your father's Red Dawn.

    by reberjc

Red Dawn is an action packed remake of the 80's hit movie. The story line follows along the orginal but the scenes are in different order. It is an action packed movie with passable acting. I thought Chris Helmsworth was good as Jed Ekert, but Josh Peck was a terrible choice as Matty. he came off as a bratty wimp that always has this nervous stupid look on his face.

The action was good and the fighting scenes were pretty good. Major suprise towards the end that you didn't see coming.

    3 out 5 stars.

    Red Dawn

Horrid. Carboard actors, amature special effects, grade B movie for sure. For the 8:30pm showing, there were only 4 of us in the audience.

1/2 the movie that it's predecessor is. Get the original on DVD and watch it at home.

Gives the original a run for its money

This was a very good movie, with really great acting. I was a bit concerned with some of the cast (Connor Cruise) but he earned his way in and did an amazing job as did the rest of the cast.

    SBM (Dawn of many sequels)

Red Dawn 2012 is a decent modern day adaptation of the 1984 classic. Dialog and relationships are as weak as you remember, making room for relatively tense action scenes. Marvel comics potential influence is an ironic underpinning, with the hero role played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and his gang of rebels taking on the moniker "Wolverines". Yes, I know that falls in with the original story, but the irony cannot be overlooked.

I left feeling a bit cheated. Just as the action gets rolling the film ends. In fact, the last inspirational speech was extremely poor.

A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. The acting of Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson great.I also like the the bond brother in the movie RED DAWN is great remake of 80 s classic but the first Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze & C. Thomas Howell fighthing the with invading Soviet forces feel more real back 80 s.

It's Darkest Before the RED DAWN, and it Should've Stayed that Way...

I didn't hate this RED DAWN remake, but that might've been because I was drunk while watching it. Chris Hemsworth has tons of charisma as a lead actor, but he can only spread it out so much before it all breaks down. Almost every other actor falls flat, especially the co-lead that we're supposed to accept as a worthy successor to Hemsworth's character.

Characters die off with little to no impact, and the ones left alive might as well be dead considering how lifeless they are. I won't even go into the ridiculously misguided patriotism and jingoistic fervor that seeps throughout the film, or the simpleminded caricatures employed by the filmmakers.

I have no memory of the original RED DAWN, but I'm fairly certain it's nowhere as insipid as this remake.

Scary! Could happen in the near future if we are not careful!

Incredible film! This was insightful back in 1984 when the original came out. The new ?Red Dawn? may be even more predictive of the future.
I just want to ask everyone, ?Where would the Wolverines have been if in their world, their President had been successful in the disarming of America??
