It's Darkest Before the RED DAWN, and it Should've Stayed that Way...
I didn't hate this RED DAWN remake, but that might've been because I was drunk while watching it. Chris Hemsworth has tons of charisma as a lead actor, but he can only spread it out so much before it all breaks down. Almost every other actor falls flat, especially the co-lead that we're supposed to accept as a worthy successor to Hemsworth's character.
Characters die off with little to no impact, and the ones left alive might as well be dead considering how lifeless they are. I won't even go into the ridiculously misguided patriotism and jingoistic fervor that seeps throughout the film, or the simpleminded caricatures employed by the filmmakers.
I have no memory of the original RED DAWN, but I'm fairly certain it's nowhere as insipid as this remake.
