It was okay. A lot of violence. Not much of a story line. To me it seemed like something was missing. The movie kept me waiting for more of the story to be told. Especialy in the area of develping the characters.

Great cast, very mediocre movie. It was slow, uneventful, sometimes ridiculous. Great talented actors were not used as they should be. I love everyone who was there except Mr. Labeouf, but they deserve a much better material.

Since I leave in Virginia I found this movie very interesting since it was a true story. Bootlegging was a part of our country's history and the movie depicted a very sad side of this history. I think the story was very well done but the movie was very gory.

Very Good Movie!

I really enjoyed this movie. It was pretty bloody so maybe not for the queezy, but it was well worth the price of admission! I enjoyed seeing some new actors I hadn't seen before and loved it even more knowing it was based on a true story. Go see it!

True Action Movie

A great story about 1930s brother bootleggers in Franklin County, Virginia. You gotta love Forrest! Some twists and turns right up through the end. Nothing's better than true-life and the stories of those who have lived before us. While maybe not a "Must Go" I still highly recommend this movie.

Good movie

This movie was pretty good. The violence was brutal during some scenes, but that really only added to the movie. The acting was great, with Tom Hardy stealing the show with his slow and deliberate delivery of his lines. Shia Labeouf played his usual excitable, young, exuberant character, which he did well. The movie was slow and deliberate which built tension and added a ominous quantity. The movie was overall enjoyable.

Great!

I thought this was a very good and interesting movie! Do not usually like Shia L. but he was very good! But I loved the Forrest character! Very entertaining and you get a bit of a history lesson as well!

Very Intense Movie

This is not a particularly enjoyable movie but the acting is absolutely superb so you should go see it for that. And, Tom Hardy does an excellent accent. Would be a hard one for an American but a truly difficult one for a Brit. Way to go, Tom.

Shia Tough?

Watching the previews you would think he was going to be some bad a$$ but throughout the whole movie he got his a$$ kicked, put down, embarrassed, and just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Save your money and wait for the DVD

Loved it!

I would love to know how much of this movie is hollywood and how much is real life. But either way it is a great story and all the actors and actress are well suited for their parts.

Excellent acting

I closed my eyes alot but this was a great movie, never boring. Everyone in the movie was a great actor. Fantastic! I believe it would have been just as good with less violence and gore. If you are descended from Scot-Irish you probably have had a still somewhere in the family. It is not tasty but very strong. Educated or poor it was a way to make money and get by in the depression.

Really liked Lawless.

It was a very intense movie with LOTS of violence, that being said giving the story line it was necessary. I had not read the novel and was able to follow the plot quite well. The story was very interesting but the high light was the performances giving by Guy Pearce, Shia BeLeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and an actor I hadn't seen before Jason Clarke. These men really seemed to fall right into the time period. All the sets, music and scenery were so authentic it made watching this film more realistic for us.

WOW! This is a good movie. The cinematography is great; but then it had beautiful landscape scenery to work with. The screenplay is excellent and the director kept the story moving along at a perfect pace. The casting was right on as well. Everyone played off each other wonderfully. This is based on a true story so that always adds to the story. It's intense at times as well as heartfelt. True it has several blooded scenes; but they actually enhance the film. There are two nude scenes that in my opinion were not needed and could have been left out. Tom Hardy did a fantastic job as Forrest and in my opinion rates an Oscar nomination this year. I usually do don't like period piece films; but this one is great. The costumes and the set designs are authentic in every way. I think this film will be liked more by us baby boomers than younger people; only because we can relate to much of it. Many of us have Great Uncles that made moonshine and has told us stories.Go and enjoy this one today.
