Lawless was a good movie to see, I would recommend it to my friend, no kids, too much violence actually not as much as in Popeye movies. The movie was bloody, gory, ultra-violent and yet very a propos to me personally. My family(2 generations) were directly involved in Prohibition and the moonshine trade. This connected me to the movie. The show should have all types of warnings attached for all who are queasy or weak with violent images,words,and actions. I suspect this movie depicts life fairly well for this time frame. It matches up to a lot of what I have been told throughout my life by some of my relatives. It was an extremely tough time in our society and history. Peoplewere caught in the proverbial rock and a hard spot. Twenty five per cent unemployment,Dust Bowl economy, Depression era standards-can we judge them by today's values and morals. Just how far removed are we from this part of our history? Will our society fold from the crises of today or will it be resilient and rebound .Movie was a great study in human behavior and actions. I spent 23 years in the U S Army;movie is brutal. I really enjoyed this movie and it?s hard to believe that one would root for criminal but all in all it's a very good picture. The actors in the movie were very good as I have spent time there in the Appalachia years ago and I don?t think much has changed. Yes go see this one it's a five star movie.

Great movie...Good casting with the characters, and great acting. The scenery and the movie sets were very realistic and set the mood for the entire movie. It was very graphic with the violence and the blood shed and had to close my eyes a few times. Tom Hardy played a great role with little words, reminded me of a Kevin Costner type character and acting.
Very good with the type of subject matter being featured.

Lawless-Great Story

I really wanted to like this movie so I didn't read the reviews before going. Considering how good the story is and wonderful performances I left the theatre wishing their was more. The story unfolded so slowly and the relationships between the characters was left wanting during many scenes because so much of the time was spent on violence.

We knew it was going to be good...

...we just didn't know HOW good it was going to be. A great story, well told and brilliantly acted. Not for the squeemish or faint at heart. But if you can get past a few really graphic parts you won't be sorry you went.

Dunno about this one

One would expect all these no doubt fantastic actors to select their projects with concise precision. Their craft is beyond imitation, and their portrayal of characters uniquely defined. It is in fact the dramatic deliverance in this piece that was particularly enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the screenplay didn't keep up with this bargain. The characters followed a path that was cliché at best. There might have been a token surprise here and there, but, let's face it, we've seen this one before.
I read in a review somewhere that this was a Bonnie and Clide for modern times...wow... Go have a look for yourselves.
I can't chalk this up as a bad film, though. As I said, the acting was flawless enough to keep me interested, and the cinematography and music was perfectly orchestrated. Perhaps the screenwriters felt it was enough to stamp the "based on a true story" at the opening and just let it coast.

Amazing!

Loved, loved, loved this movie! I am a 32 year old stay at home mom, I went to see this by myself and LOVED it! I would definitely see it again. Tom Hardy was brilliant- just wait till you hear him speak. All the actors and actresses were great, and the story line was full and rich.

We liked the movie a lot. There were no bad performances-great acting and casting. Guy Pearce is the quintessential smarmy bad guy. Jessica Chastain and Mia W. were especially beautiful and all the male leads were first rate.

The plot (based on a book & apparently a "true story" as they say) was gripping. If I don't have to check my iphone for the time, I know I'm enjoying a movie.
Beautifully filmed in a smoky, gloomy, prohibition-era style.

This is appropriately rated R because of the violence. This is not a good movie for kids. Yes, there is foul language a little nudity, but it's the violence that's very graphic. Heed the rating for this reason.

Lawless is a film that you're either going to relish about, or going to completely shut out. I say this because, the movie is not fast paced, nor does it have a lot of action, and in today's society that is what most people want when they see films on the big screen. If you like action packed movies, this is not down your ally, and should probably check out Expendables 2, which I have not seen yet? I enjoyed the hell out of this film and defiantly will see this movie again some time in the near future. I was atonished by how the movie looked, the set pieces were right on point with the western feel. Good make-up effects for the bloody and beaten faces that most all characters went through in the film. With amazing acting, and great character development, Lawless ends up being worth the full price admission. Back to the question, does Shia LeBeouf finally grow up in this film? "Yes, he certainly becomes a man in Lawless," which i'm very glad to see.

tom is best actor in hollywood

Tom Hardy is the best most under rated actor in Hollywood.I'm one who believes that most of these high paid actors are talentless hacks. i was a child actor and went to London Royal academy and N.Y. school of performing arts. This guy is soooo good it blows me away. He should have been nominated for the academy for the fighter.If they overlook him in this i am over Hollywood. As an actor, i love watching this guy work.Serious people ,he is the new Dinero.

Exceptional Movie - Exceptional Acting

One of the best movies I have seen in years. This should be high on the Oscar list. Best picture,Best Actor/Actress, Costuming, all of it. Hope it wins!!!

Being that I'm from Kentucky, and past relatives ran moonshine. It's a good movie to see, it's apart of our history and the great depression. Movie company's need to make more movies like this for our children to know the struggles of our past.

Great acting, story so-so.

I felt the acting, action sequences, props, background was superb. However I became frustrated at the story line. This film I understand is based on a true story, I just wished they had edited the story somewhat to make it more enjoyable. I found the actions of some of the characters lacked common scene (i e: walking toward someone who's pointing a gun at you and not taking cover or returning fire).

Loved it! Defiantly a Must Go

Great movie although I think it could have been less gory. The plot was excellent and kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending was not disappointing either. I'd go see it again!
