    Lawless felt real!!

    This is one of those times that life is stranger than fiction. Lawless had a few nice moments. It's worth seeing just for Horaces' life and death struggles. His bigger than life legends. I was surprised that Shias' character wasn't the toughest one. All in all it was a good movie.

    great! very intense, loved it

    loved the movie,Shia Labeouf actually didn't over act in this movie, tom hardy did a good job as always, standout preformance came from the bad guy played by guy pearce. i wasn't sure if this film wasn't going to a bummer, but it was excellent. one warning to someone going to be watching it, it contains a lot of brutal violence.

    As far as the violence noted.. I don't think it was especially more violent than any movie with this particular topic (I mean come on people, it's a movie about people who are LAWLESS!!!!) but I think the complaints were more in regards to the TYPE of violence.

    There are a couple instances where you get to see tar and feathering, knifing from navel to nose. The type of things generally you don't see a ton of in movies. As well as guns. :)

    The plot was ok, the lines were mostly ok. The acting was ok, the movie was basically ok. It's not a warm squishy heartfelt movie, but it's amusing for a couple of hours.

    DO EVERYONE A FAVOR!!!! DO NOT TURN ON YOUR CELL PHONES!!!! Yeah ok, so that's a common rule... but it's not a "light" movie. The whole feeling is designed to be dark, and much of it takes place at night or in dark alleys or hidden in the bushes. HELLO PEOPLE!!!! The light from your cell phone is distracting!

    Lawless was great!

    "Based on a true story", I wonder how much was real and how much was Hollywood. The movie was great, based on bootlegging in VA during prohibition. The violence was a little over the top at times, but if it was an accuate protrayal of the time, so be it! The cast was incredible. I have to admit I went to see it because of Tom Hardy. I wish they would cast him in a role where he does more than grunt.

    Lawless

    So i saw lawless last night with a buddy its a typical story of 3 brothers with the youngest being the "runt/weakest." Now from the previews it seemed to be that classic story where the kid who couldn't hurt a fly becomes a " Lawless" Bad *** that avenges (Person A or B).
    But sadly the only thing this movie did was fall short of expectations that could have been a great movie. The Ending was Anti Climatic but as much as I'm putting this movie it was a decent movie however wasn't worth the $11.00 i spent.

    Lawless

    Since I leave in Virginia I found this movie very interesting since it was a true story. Bootlegging was a part of our country's history and the movie depicted a very sad side of this history. I think the story was very well done but the movie was very gory.

    Best of Year

    Tom Hardy was incredible and should get nominated for Best Actor for his work in this film. Shia LaBeaouf also very good. Kept me glued to the screen entire time. Well worth paying to see this one.

    POWERFUL AND TOM HARDY THE NEW HEARTHROB!!

    Great film and based on a true story, about 3 brothers who ran a moonshine business out of Virginia during Prohibition. Refusing to start paying off the corrupt offiicials who come in from Chicago, the film is graphically violent, unsettling, powerful and a must see. Great action and camera work, a substantive, yet subtle story of brotherly relationships, a love interest thrown in (the great Jessica Chastain) and all around riveting movie for a Saturday night!

    Very Good Movie!

    I really enjoyed this movie. It was pretty bloody so maybe not for the queezy, but it was well worth the price of admission! I enjoyed seeing some new actors I hadn't seen before and loved it even more knowing it was based on a true story. Go see it!

    Excellent!

    I had read some pretty negative reviews, so was braced for an uneven ride, but Lawless is strong, confident filmmaking with great visual style and indelible performances. Like Hillcoat's "The Proposition," the storytelling is about a series of incidents accumulating tension between the characters, so it's not a nonstop action flick as some of the promotions imply. It's also about mood and especially about the creation of folk mythology, which is very effectively done. There's been some criticism of Guy Pearce's "cartoonish" performance but given the character's actions and the archetypes at work, it didn't strike me or my companions as inappropriate or jarring. This guy will show up in your nightmares. Shia LaBoeuf is fine, Jason Clarke gives solid support, Jessica Chastain quietly commands your attention in every scene and Tom Hardy is just ASTONISHING. On the downside, he & Chastain don't have a lot of chemistry, and the film runs about fifteen minutes too long

    Lawless-Great Story

    I really wanted to like this movie so I didn't read the reviews before going. Considering how good the story is and wonderful performances I left the theatre wishing their was more. The story unfolded so slowly and the relationships between the characters was left wanting during many scenes because so much of the time was spent on violence.

    lawless-the movie

    The movie was bloody, gory, ultra-violent and yet very a propos to me personally. My family(2 generations) were directly involved in Prohibition and the moonshine trade. This connected me to the movie. The show should have all types of warnings attached for all who are queasy or weak with violent images,words,and actions. I suspect this movie depicts life fairly well for this time frame. It matches up to a lot of what I have been told throughout my life by some of my relatives. It was an extremely tough time in our society and history. Peoplewere caught in the proverbial rock and a hard spot. Twenty five per cent unemployment,Dust Bowl economy, Depression era standards-can we judge them by today's values and morals. Just how far removed are we from this part of our history? Will our society fold from the crises of today or will it be resilient and rebound .Movie was a great study in human behavior and actions. I spent 23 years in the U S Army;movie is brutal.     A great piece of history.

    I didn't get a chance to read the book, "The wettest county in the world". Acting in this film was as good as I've ever seen as well as the connection, and brotherly-bond they shared. Gives a good sense of "Goodfellas" of the Prohibition times, based in the brutal era of Virginia during the 1930's.

    On the edge of my seat

    I didn't expect Lawless to be a thriller but found myself instantly attached to the characters and on the edge of my seat the whole movie. It certainly helps to know that the movie is based on true events. I've already recommended this movie to my friends.

    Shia is NOT leading Man material

    I think the move is borderline no-go. Shia is too wimpy /whiney to 'carry' a movie as a lead actor. He is NOT believable as a person capable of killing anyone. The movie is slow and boring. I like Tom Hardy but I have never seen an actor go through an entire movie without changing his facial expression from a blank look.
