Very Good Movie!

I really enjoyed this movie. It was pretty bloody so maybe not for the queezy, but it was well worth the price of admission! I enjoyed seeing some new actors I hadn't seen before and loved it even more knowing it was based on a true story. Go see it!

Absolutely loved the Movie, It was a wonderful seat clenching, great suspense, makes you laugh and cry at the same time. I loved Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Dane DeHaan as they took their roles to a new level of acting! As for guy pierce! He truly gives a villan a new name! You must go see this movie it is an awesome movie!

There should be a law against Lawless!

This movie should never have been made. The story is not well developed. The characters are not appealing and I never cared what happened to any of them. It was more like a farce than a serious movie. Save your money!

back country brothers and prohibition

It's like a really great back story behind the TV show Boardwalk Empire, but the movie brings a brotherly attitude and a motto amongst them that is original and all its own. Similar feel to No Country for Old Men and Last Man Standing.

Lawless is not great but very good

Worth the trip for the fine performance by Tom Hardy. Some characters felt a little distant but as it is based on a true story I felt it was worth my time and money. Though it did make me want to read the book!

Amazing acting and great plot based on a true story. I just can't get over how Shia LeBouf and Tom Hardy able to play so many different roles SO well. It's definitely got some bloody violence but it's not enough to avoid the movie if you're not a fan of that sort of thing (I know I'm not).
Do yourself a favor and go see it!

Good Movie but something was missing

Lawless was entertaining, well acted, and the story was well written. but something was missing. Tom Hardy played his part extremely well. His facial expression told the story before his words did. And Guy Pierce was incredible as usual. These two were the best.

Maybe someone else can tell me what they think was missing.

Anyway go see it. ITS the shortest two hours of your life. Cant wait for this to come to DVD>

Very Good Movie

This was intense 2hr movie but very interesting& different from all the others out there . Love that it was based on true story. Acting was superb! Not for the faint at heart as there is good amount of violence /blood . I loved it!

Engaging story and great acting!

This movie was a pleasant, refreshing surprise. I had seen the previews for it and observed that is was based on a true story, not to mention a great cast, and I decided to make the trip to the theater to see it. Well, I was blown away. The acting was top notch, and this is Shia LaBeouf's best performance. Tom Hardy is amazing at everything and I love his mysterious and stoic portrayal of Howard. There are some intense scenes, and as the story unravels I was on the edge of my seat. A must see for any movie fan who likes movie with depth.

Waste

Great cast, very mediocre movie. It was slow, uneventful, sometimes ridiculous. Great talented actors were not used as they should be. I love everyone who was there except Mr. Labeouf, but they deserve a much better material.

It was okay. A lot of violence. Not much of a story line. To me it seemed like something was missing. The movie kept me waiting for more of the story to be told. Especialy in the area of develping the characters.

Good, but prepare for violence

So, it was not clear from the synopsis before we went that it would have that much violence. However, it was a very good plot to follow, with a basis in a true story. I do not recall seeing the lead person in any other films, but was very good.In fact almost all of the acting is very good. While some might find it ridiculous that these 3 brothers can actually survive, it is relevant to the storyline, and for myself and the group I saw it with, it worked. The only gripe I have is with the ending...it does feel almost surreal, and not quite sure how it evolves to that outcome. It may have been in the interest of time, given the length of the movie , to not be able to provide the evolution between one point in time and the ending.
As for the "nudity" or "sex" mentions by others...really?!! I found it realistically done, and so seamless to the storyline, that it worked. In fact, more alluded to and occurred off camera.

Great Flick

Being that I am a native Virginian and enjoy learning any history when I possiblly can; I thought that this was a very educational walk through the state memories; I knew very little of. Although, I grew up not to far away from Franklin County, in the Tidewater area. Growing up during the 40's (1945) through the 60's(1965) when I first left home in the service and again from the 70's to the 80"s(1984) I alway heard of the ruginess of the back woods men and there way of life. It was very good to see the other side of the gansters, that weren't from Chicago or New York. Recommend anyone to go see it with an open mind, much to learn.

Mildly Gangster

The film was a great watch, but nothing close to the film within its genre, such as; American Gangster, Public Enemy or etc. I did admire the tough brotherly love, and what made this a touching film was the togetherness, determination and strength of the gang. On the contrary, this would make a great block buster night film, but truly, nothing to spend premier funds on.

It was dark

I mean it opens with dark scenes. I love the idea about local boys that need to learn to take care of each other at all cost, but the story went all over the place, and I left before it was over
