Oh man loads of violence, blood, and guts, and nuts..Great movie, great period costumes and the acting was terrific. Not for children under 16 and most ladies probably will not like it very much. 2 thumbs up!!

Mildly Gangster

The film was a great watch, but nothing close to the film within its genre, such as; American Gangster, Public Enemy or etc. I did admire the tough brotherly love, and what made this a touching film was the togetherness, determination and strength of the gang. On the contrary, this would make a great block buster night film, but truly, nothing to spend premier funds on.

Could have been great

If they had bothered with developing the characters and the script, could have been a great movie. Too much unnecessary, pointless, violence. Very little story. Don't know the characters.

Good movie but more violent then expected.

Hubs and I went to see this movie for our Thursday date night. We really enjoyed it. It had a good story and firm acting though it was heavy on the violence.

Great!

I thought this was a very good and interesting movie! Do not usually like Shia L. but he was very good! But I loved the Forrest character! Very entertaining and you get a bit of a history lesson as well!

We liked the movie a lot. There were no bad performances-great acting and casting. Guy Pearce is the quintessential smarmy bad guy. Jessica Chastain and Mia W. were especially beautiful and all the male leads were first rate.

The plot (based on a book & apparently a "true story" as they say) was gripping. If I don't have to check my iphone for the time, I know I'm enjoying a movie.
Beautifully filmed in a smoky, gloomy, prohibition-era style.

This is appropriately rated R because of the violence. This is not a good movie for kids. Yes, there is foul language a little nudity, but it's the violence that's very graphic. Heed the rating for this reason.

Good movie

This movie was pretty good. The violence was brutal during some scenes, but that really only added to the movie. The acting was great, with Tom Hardy stealing the show with his slow and deliberate delivery of his lines. Shia Labeouf played his usual excitable, young, exuberant character, which he did well. The movie was slow and deliberate which built tension and added a ominous quantity. The movie was overall enjoyable.

definitely worth seeing

Lots of gore - but that fits with the times - Prohibition. Adults - definitely 18+
Good plot, great actors.
Based on a true story - from a book written by a member of the Bondurant family - the key players in this drama.

Dunno about this one

One would expect all these no doubt fantastic actors to select their projects with concise precision. Their craft is beyond imitation, and their portrayal of characters uniquely defined. It is in fact the dramatic deliverance in this piece that was particularly enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the screenplay didn't keep up with this bargain. The characters followed a path that was cliché at best. There might have been a token surprise here and there, but, let's face it, we've seen this one before.
I read in a review somewhere that this was a Bonnie and Clide for modern times...wow... Go have a look for yourselves.
I can't chalk this up as a bad film, though. As I said, the acting was flawless enough to keep me interested, and the cinematography and music was perfectly orchestrated. Perhaps the screenwriters felt it was enough to stamp the "based on a true story" at the opening and just let it coast.

Excellent Movie

Very interesting movie with good acting. A little gory at times.
Terrific end to story that is unusual these days. I am going to get the book
it was based on, I enjoyed it that much. Wife also liked it which
is unusual for her on this type of movie. Recommend for adults, kids not so much.

Lawless is a film that you're either going to relish about, or going to completely shut out. I say this because, the movie is not fast paced, nor does it have a lot of action, and in today's society that is what most people want when they see films on the big screen. If you like action packed movies, this is not down your ally, and should probably check out Expendables 2, which I have not seen yet? I enjoyed the hell out of this film and defiantly will see this movie again some time in the near future. I was atonished by how the movie looked, the set pieces were right on point with the western feel. Good make-up effects for the bloody and beaten faces that most all characters went through in the film. With amazing acting, and great character development, Lawless ends up being worth the full price admission. Back to the question, does Shia LeBeouf finally grow up in this film? "Yes, he certainly becomes a man in Lawless," which i'm very glad to see.

Has its Flaws, but still good

The acting in this movie makes it worth seeing alone, and the beautiful filming. But it's cut in such a way where it moves too slowly.

Tom Hardy is perfection

Not only am i huge Tom Hardy fan, but Shia did an AMAZING job.
I got SO INTO this movie I started to get mad an one of the characters.
This movie makes you SUPER anxious, I LOVE IT!

My husband loved it but I think there was a little too much graphic violence. It was hard to watch at times. Don't take the kids, definately adults only. The acting was good and many of the scenes were well shot. All in all, worth watching.

Amazing

This movie is amazing. It has action, comedy, it has depth, it has everything. It has protagonists you root for and an antagonist you hate. All the characters are well played, but Tom Hardy stood out the most. This is one of his best movies to date. Some of the scenes can be gruesome, but well justified. All around, great movie. A must see!
