    Surprisingly good

    by GATobin

Figured that any movie with Steve Carrell and Jim Carey would have to go over the top early but this movie was steadily funny and enjoyable all the way through. Much of the magic was preposterous but that was less a failure of suspension of belief than a sly wink and an invitation to laugh from the filmmakers.

Alan Arkin has still got it. Steve Buscemi was OK in a role that did not give him much to do. Olivia Wilde is always worth watching. All of the bit players delivered.

Turned out to be worth the time and admission price.

    The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

This is a comedy about two boys that grow up to become headlining Las Vegas magicians . Steve C & Steve B play the two friends [Steve C has the bigger ego] . Olivia plays their pretty assistant [that just has her own goal of becoming a headlining act] . Alan plays the original magician that inspired the two Steves to get into the field of prestidigitation , in the first place . Jim plays a street magician that does more of a shocking magic act [just think along the lines of Criss Angel] . There is a fierce competition between the Steves and Jim [neither of them likes the other's style of magic] . David Copperfield is a consultant on the movie [and also makes a cameo appearance] .
It's rated "PG-13" for sexual content , dangerous stunts and language and has a running time of 1 hour & 40 minutes .
I enjoyed it and would buy it on DVD .

    Waste of time

    by

I love Steve Carrell and usually enjoy Jim Carrey movies. This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. There were only two points in the movie where I may have laughed, but nothing more than a snicker. The only truly good thing during this movie was the popcorn and drink that cost more than the movie ticket itself.

A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

It started out with promise, but then into morphed into something absurd and ridiculous, but NOT funny. The Jim Carrey character was fine, until his last magic "trick." The last 20 minutes of the movie were stupid. If the premise was intended to be a satire about magicians, the writers and the director missed the mark. Don't bother with this one. I'm just glad I only paid $6, which I'll write off as a charitable deduction.

Pass - slow moving, not much fun, and a bit maudlin here and there. Best part: last 10 minutes.

We had high hopes and they were not met---be forewarned, the preview trailers show almost all the best parts of the movie, except for the last 10 minutes. Jim Carrey's character is atrocious and not at all funny. The teenagers in front of us seemed to really enjoy Carrey's ridiculous stunts, when they weren't mauling each other. Olivia Wilde is quite likable. What happened to Gandolfini---still channeling Tony Soprano, but just going through the motions?

You're not missing anything. If you feel the need to see it, wait for it to be on video--that will happen very quickly, as it's not going to be in the theaters for long, nor will it be one that gets any repeat viewers.

    Eh...

    by

Not as funny as I thought a Steve Carrell/Jim Carrey movie would be. The whole premise, I got, but movie just moved too slow for me I think. Maybe not ENOUGH comedy in the movie and the comedy that was in it, wasnt that funny. A good movie to take kids to see to kill some time, but if you go expecting something GREAT, you'll be highly disappointed. Wasnt a big fan of how the movie ended as well. Seemed rushed.

    Why Would I Bother?

I had been curious about the movie but since your description entirely revealed the plot, why should I bother? Perhaps you don't want the movie to make money. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Better than I thought it'd be

I had no expectations that this would be good. But it caught me off guard as being better than I thought it would be. Steve Buscemi, while still being an amazing actor is also still the most awkward guy in Hollywood. Steve Carrell was good. Jim Carrey... I know what your role was about - but I easily could have lived without you in the movie

    Horrible Burt Whateverstone

I am clueless how anyone has given this movie an even remotely decent review. Clearly those people either saw a different movie or they were on drugs when watching it. This was hands down the WORST WORST WORST film I have ever seen. Not a single scene was funny. It was incredibly stupid. Horrible script. I kept contemplating walking out of the move the entire time but didn't have to pay to see it kept hoping that maybe it would get better from how horrible it already was. Sad to see the usually funny Jim carrey in such a horrible movie that does him no good at all. Cause it WASNT funny!! Even if you don't have to pay to see it like me, DONT SEE IT! biggest waste of time I ever spent.

    Meh..

    by

Just a really bad script. The could have done so much with this concept, but the sense of humor really came off cheap.

Even though I love Steve Carell, this movie is evidence that he can't play any character other than of Michael Scott from The Office. The character Burt Wonderstone is literally, Michael Scott as a magician.

I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't love this movie!!

    by dipa108

All I can say is that I can't remember the last time I constantly laughed out loud through an entire movie. This movie was incredibly funny at the same time it was touching and actually had a moral...And how can you not love a movie that has Steve Carell, jim Carey, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde and Alan Arkin!?!?!Totally engaging from beginning to end!!

    Bizarre yet entertaining film

    by

A pleasant way to pass a few hours... Jim Carrey's character is absolutely insane (anyone surprised?), and Steve Carrell's lead character wins audiences over eventually, once he turns down the obnoxious self-centeredness a few notches. Didn't make me want to go out and watch a magic show, but did make me want to adopt a teacup Yorkie.

    Save your money

    by RussG

It must have cost a lot to get these big-name stars, but the script writing and plot are horrible. I think I may have laughed once during the entire movie. It was difficult to stay awake all the way through it. It was really pathetic.

    Hilarious Movie

This is an entertaining movie. It s pretty clean (the F-word one time, however). It has a lot of gross-out humor (the Jim Carey parts) but the rest of it is clever and original. Alan Arkin is always a great actor and lends his class to this movie. This movie spoofs the Cris Angel type of acts and the 'animal magicians' epitomized by Siegfried and Roy. Thoroughly enjoyable. A great time. Please go and be entertained.
