Sweet Movie with a Great Message

ParaNorman is a great family friendly movie with a great message. I found it very sweet and with some great special effects, especially near the end. Unique, funny, and sweet.

    Cute Movie

I am really shocked by some of the reviews on here saying the movie is scary. I took my nine yr old son and I don't recall either of us being scared once. I understand some people have different tolerance for these things but reading these reviews I think some people must keep their kids in a closet or something. A 12 yr old being scared of this movie?? Come on.... You can tell from the preview that there are zombies, etc so if you are sensitive to those kids of things you probably shouldn't go. My husband and I actually laughed a lot. I found it quite funny. The only thing that caught me off guard was the ending where the boy "comes out" to the girl by telling her she should meet his boyfriend. I thought I might have to answer some questions about that when we got back to the car but I think it went right over my sons head. LOL Pretty cute and funny movie.

pretty good; 8-year old really liked it

    by 40Hz

Overall, the movie was pretty good. It had the right amount of fun, creepiness, and humor to appeal to my child and it was entertaining for me, the adult parent. Storyline was a bit contrived, and the presentation was kind of derivative (see "Tim Burton movies" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"), but definitely rises above a lot of the over-hyped fluff out there. The last 10 minutes offers some good lessons and topics for discussion with a child.

    Don't Bring children!!!!!

Not for children! My 7 & 3 1/2 year old were so excited to see Paranorman, having seen the light & cute trailer. They were terrified throughout the movie. Theme is incredibly dark. SPOILER ALERT: (a child gets the death sentence). This is an animated horror movie, not a children's movie. Adult content & innuendo highly inappropriate for this film's targeted audience. Definitely needed a PG-13 rating. Norman's dad appears to not like his son, which takes away the family aspect of an animated flick? We all felt felt tricked, having thought the movie was light and cute as the trailer indicated. Message about being one's self is deeply buried in inappropriate content. See Brave again.

    It should be rated PG13

    by j33

Definitely like many parents had commented, it is not suitable for children under 13. I had to explain to my 8 year-old daughter about the gay joke near the end because she did understand. I am not against gays but I don't want my kid to ask about this kind of social issue at such young age. I will not recommend any parent to bring their young children.

    Amazing Graphics

My daughter and I had a blast watching ParaNorman. It was caring, a little bit of mystery and a whole lot of funny jokes that we all understood! The graphics of the movie was amazing. Reminding you of Coraline, The Night Before Christmas and others similar! Will be buying the movie when it comes out! :)

    Excelent animation, some laughs

One of the critics gave this a bad review because it's "not for children." As if simply by virtue of a movie being animated that it was made FOR children. This is an excellent animated film, less spooky and otherworldly than Coraline but more accessible and fun. Sadly there were some screaming 3 year olds in the movie so I would go see a later showing to avoid the infant crowd. And for 8 year olds and up this flick is just fine. yeah, it's somewhat macbre, but any gore and guts is animated so it's not a big deal. See it and take your (older) kids too.

    Loved it

I took my two daughters to see ParaNorman and I really really enjoyed it. So did they. What I liked were the messages of the movie - do not fear what you don't know. Some of the characters were too much - but then again much of this movie was over the top. Best part was Norman - that character was great. I advise everyone to go see it.

Not safe for kids less than 13 - boring

    by satvyj

Had to endure this boring to the core movie. If messages have to be told, there are a thousand other ways to do it. Movie has too much of unsuitable scenes, languages of lesser aged kids.

    Very disapointed

I took my two boys 8 and 5 to see paranorman today and was so disapointed by the ADULT humor they used. This was rated pg and should have been pg-13. I was so upset that they used comments like adult movie stores and sex, but the worst for me was at the very end to hear the one guy who is supposed to be a teen tell the girl she'd really love his boyfriend. Seriously I'm not judging how people want to live there live's but I than had to explain to my 8 and 5 yearold after being asked what he means by his boyfriend. I was disapointed and wouldnt recomend this movie to any parents with kids under atleast 12.,

    Gross, unfunny, uninteresting

This movie is GROSS! It was given a PG rating for "some rude humor"? Should be PG-13 for "totally and completely inappropriate for children"! In one scene the "W" on a sign over a hot dog restaurant called "Witchy Weiners" is burned out, so it says "Itchy Weiners". Really? Did we have to go there? Writers, can you not be creative anymore without being disgusting? And of course, no kids' movie would be complete without the horny little fat kid and the gay jock characters! Aside from the inappropriate humor, the writing is subpar, and the jokes fall flat. I actually felt embarrassed for the writers because hardly anyone in the theater laughed. Visually, the movie is just okay, and certainly not good enough to make up for all the negatives. This movie made me angry. What a waste of time and money!!!

    ParaNorman

    by prplphd

My family of six watched ParaNorman this past Saturday. We laughed so much that I was afraid that the other folks in the theater might complain. As it turned out, they were laughing loudly as well. It's great to see a movie that can bring satisfaction to every member of our family, particularly when the ages run from school-aged (8 and 13) kids to adults (both parents and grandparents). Loved the movie and the moral.

    weird and creepy movie

I brought my 8 year old to this movie and he liked it, but my other son who is almost 6 would have lost his mind if he saw it. It was weird, creepy and dark and will probably give any child under 8 nightmares for a month.

So, if you like weird and creepy, you will love it. I was shocked it was considered a kids move.

    Regarding pg rating on movie

My neighbor with his 14 and 12 year old daughters as well as myself and my 8 and 5 year old daughters went last night to this 7:40 showing and were horribly shocked with the mis-rating of this film. Much scarier than imagined fir kids even the 12 year old and 14 year old. More so we believe this should have been rated pg-13 or higher due to the language using jackass as well as the sexual orientation reference at the end. This was very upsetting.
