    What happened to "kid's" movies?

Parents, if you are one of those who don't want your kids to grow up too fast... this is another one of those movies that will have you answering questions you may not be ready to answer just yet. I had two 11 year olds with me. But, there were many with those much younger in this movie. The only two things about this movie that were "kid-like" is that it is about a kid and it is a cartoon. The ghosts that Norman sees are of a drugged out hippie, murdered mobster, killed fighter pilot, etc. There are a few harmless ones, such as his grandmother. His new best friend's buff older brother is gay. You find this out near the end when Norman's older sister trys flerting with him. Nornman watches b-rated horror movies, to which he tells his parents he is watching "sex and violence" on TV. This was simply much better suited to older kids, more like in their early teens (based on content).

    Gross, unfunny, uninteresting

This movie is GROSS! It was given a PG rating for "some rude humor"? Should be PG-13 for "totally and completely inappropriate for children"! In one scene the "W" on a sign over a hot dog restaurant called "Witchy Weiners" is burned out, so it says "Itchy Weiners". Really? Did we have to go there? Writers, can you not be creative anymore without being disgusting? And of course, no kids' movie would be complete without the horny little fat kid and the gay jock characters! Aside from the inappropriate humor, the writing is subpar, and the jokes fall flat. I actually felt embarrassed for the writers because hardly anyone in the theater laughed. Visually, the movie is just okay, and certainly not good enough to make up for all the negatives. This movie made me angry. What a waste of time and money!!!

    Cute kid zombie movie.

My kids loved it I (4 and 7 year old). I'll have to say that my husband and I also enjoyed it. Great family night movie.

Great for kids and not bad for grand parents

This was a good movie for my grandsons, 11 and 8. It all held together well and kept everyone engaged. Not too scarey for the 8 year old...all in all a god movie

Pales in comparison to Coraline. Quirky, melancholy, and just average.

My wife and I were quite disappointed, but our daughter (10) was reasonably entertained.
The whole "feel" of the movie is oddly melancholy and some of the little "jokes" don't really fit for the audience---what did it add to have the big jock discuss his boyfriend at the end?

It wasn't terrible, it just fell far short of our expectations. It was a solid 2.5 stars on a four point scale, it just wasn't particularly fun, or original---"I see dead people" has been done.

Funny movie, but not for children under age 15.

Not for children under 15. Has several choice words, references to sex and homosexuality. The movie would frighten young kids and leave most under 15 with questions or awkward comments. It is a funny movie for older teens and adults.

Entertaining in an odd sorta way

This was a surprisinglly fun movie....perfect for the 12-14 year old set, although I should have thought it thru a bit more before taking my 6 year old.

What you'd expect, but a bit better.

    by Coupy

More humor for adults than I'd expect. Characters are charismatic, story is a bit more complex than is usual for kids movies. I really enjoyed it, and so did the kid.

    ParaNorman

    by prplphd

My family of six watched ParaNorman this past Saturday. We laughed so much that I was afraid that the other folks in the theater might complain. As it turned out, they were laughing loudly as well. It's great to see a movie that can bring satisfaction to every member of our family, particularly when the ages run from school-aged (8 and 13) kids to adults (both parents and grandparents). Loved the movie and the moral.

    ParaNorman is worth the price

    by Salamar

Took my son to see ParaNorman over Labor Day weekend and I'm glad we went. The film looks absolutely beautiful and is never overly gory. Lots of care has been taken to get the look and feel of this universe down pat and there are tons of sight gags and in-jokes that smaller kids won't get but are there for the adults.

Some of the material isn't for smaller, more easily-frightened kids; I'd say anyone under 10 it's probably not appropriate for but your mileage may vary depending on your child's maturity.

Pretty much the only thing that I find disappointing is the overly-familiar story. it's a feel-good film and pretty much anyone who's ever seen any film can easily predict how this one will turn out. It could have been more involved but it's a minor complaint.

A solid, well-done claymation film with some action, comedy, danger, and a couple good messages at the end make for a GO, but the all-too-familiar misfit kid storyline keeps it from being a MUST-GO.

    Awesome!

I didn't even care about seeing this movie (my girlfriend wanted to), but I'm glad I did! I enjoyed it a lot, and would see it again.

Not sure if it's necessarily enjoyable for kids (zombies, witches, "Kill the witch" chants), but the jokes & references are totally over children's heads. And the kids who were in the theatre just seemed to like that it was a cartoon! They didn't even understand what was happening!

    ParaNorman

This movie would've been more appropriate for my kids had it not had all of the suggestive language and inappropriate innuendos. For example, couldn't count how many times the phrase "this sucks!" was said. Sex and suggestions of it were rampant throughout the movie. Another male character had a boyfriend. Now, older kids would understand these concepts. However, young children who haven't had those "talks" yet with their family are going to be force fed these things during the movie. Parents, if you haven't had those discussions, be prepared. Otherwise, it was a good movie. Wish it had been rated at least a PG-13.

    Not too kid friendly!!

    by

It is was a bit interesting because normally when I go to see a kids movie that means nap time for me. But instead this movie actually had some humor in it. I did take my 9 year old daughter who enjoyed it for the most part. They did have some disturbing things in the movie when they were referring to sex. My daughter turned to me and asked me what sex was??? I didn't even know how to explain that let alone in a movie theater. Other than some of the language it was a great movie, I would offer to go with an adult the next time instead of a child.

    weird and creepy movie

I brought my 8 year old to this movie and he liked it, but my other son who is almost 6 would have lost his mind if he saw it. It was weird, creepy and dark and will probably give any child under 8 nightmares for a month.

So, if you like weird and creepy, you will love it. I was shocked it was considered a kids move.

    ParaNorman, HAS CORRECT RATING

    by

The movie is great! though some kids in the theatre got scared, even found myself jumping at certain things. This movie was Parental-guidance suggested, just not what most parents are use to when movies are given a PG-rating. The "questionable" scenes in the movie really made it more of a family-fun film where it could please adults to teens to kids.

    definitions to PG:
PG ? Parental Guidance Suggested. Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children. A PG-rated motion picture should be investigated by parents before they let their younger children attend. The PG rating indicates, in the view of the Rating Board, that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, and parents should make that decision. The more mature themes in some PG-rated motion pictures may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity.
