Sweet Movie with a Great Message

ParaNorman is a great family friendly movie with a great message. I found it very sweet and with some great special effects, especially near the end. Unique, funny, and sweet.

    Paranorman

    by

My eight year old enjoyed the movie, I thought their would be a little mor interaction with the ghosts in the movie making it a bit more fun.

    Little Gem

Took my 9 year old grandson to see it and we loved it. It is a real gem as far as being visually well done and getting it's message across. At dinner, after the movie, I asked my grandson what the movie was trying to say and he said " I think it was trying to say that everybody is different and we shouldn't be mean to people who are. " Which of course is what the movie was trying to say. So then I asked him why and he said "well, they're people too, nanny!"
There was no swearing in the movie but there were a couple of places that were too scary for small children. And of course it deals with death ,which unless you have explained real death to a child, he/she will be frightened by this movie, not understanding that it is pure fantasy. But for children 9 and over, it's a good movie.

    ParaNorman

    by lagjad

The film was so-so. Took a 7 year old and she was frightened by some of the scenes. She wanted to go home, but instead decided she was going to stay through the whole movie. I probably would not take a child under 9 or 10 years old. Another family had a child about my granddaughters age and the got up and left because the child was so scared. The story was not hard for an adult to follow but not as clear to a 7 year old.

    ParaNorman, HAS CORRECT RATING

    by

The movie is great! though some kids in the theatre got scared, even found myself jumping at certain things. This movie was Parental-guidance suggested, just not what most parents are use to when movies are given a PG-rating. The "questionable" scenes in the movie really made it more of a family-fun film where it could please adults to teens to kids.

    definitions to PG:
PG ? Parental Guidance Suggested. Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children. A PG-rated motion picture should be investigated by parents before they let their younger children attend. The PG rating indicates, in the view of the Rating Board, that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, and parents should make that decision. The more mature themes in some PG-rated motion pictures may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity.

    made like Coraline

I am not a fan of Coraline and this was made just like it. The kids LOVED it but as an adult I only thought it was so-so. There were some pretty funny parts though :)

    Don't Bring children!!!!!

Not for children! My 7 & 3 1/2 year old were so excited to see Paranorman, having seen the light & cute trailer. They were terrified throughout the movie. Theme is incredibly dark. SPOILER ALERT: (a child gets the death sentence). This is an animated horror movie, not a children's movie. Adult content & innuendo highly inappropriate for this film's targeted audience. Definitely needed a PG-13 rating. Norman's dad appears to not like his son, which takes away the family aspect of an animated flick? We all felt felt tricked, having thought the movie was light and cute as the trailer indicated. Message about being one's self is deeply buried in inappropriate content. See Brave again.

    Pass

Surprised it was rated PG.. some of the language and themes were way to much for children in my opinion. My son is 11, and he was making comments and expressions of shock at some of the things being said. Not worth seeing. The only interesting thing was some of the animation, but still not good enough to save it. This will hit the dollar movies in no time.

    Fun Movie

    by BTPol

It was a good movie. I wouldn't suggest taking children under 5 though. Our 5 yr old was not so sure with some characters, but it did make him laugh which lighten it up for him.

    ParaNorman is worth the price

    by Salamar

Took my son to see ParaNorman over Labor Day weekend and I'm glad we went. The film looks absolutely beautiful and is never overly gory. Lots of care has been taken to get the look and feel of this universe down pat and there are tons of sight gags and in-jokes that smaller kids won't get but are there for the adults.

Some of the material isn't for smaller, more easily-frightened kids; I'd say anyone under 10 it's probably not appropriate for but your mileage may vary depending on your child's maturity.

Pretty much the only thing that I find disappointing is the overly-familiar story. it's a feel-good film and pretty much anyone who's ever seen any film can easily predict how this one will turn out. It could have been more involved but it's a minor complaint.

A solid, well-done claymation film with some action, comedy, danger, and a couple good messages at the end make for a GO, but the all-too-familiar misfit kid storyline keeps it from being a MUST-GO.

    Upset with Paranorman

For a movie with a PG rating I was quite surprised to hear several curse words and a gay character. Wish I had known that before I took my kindergartener.

    Excelent animation, some laughs

One of the critics gave this a bad review because it's "not for children." As if simply by virtue of a movie being animated that it was made FOR children. This is an excellent animated film, less spooky and otherworldly than Coraline but more accessible and fun. Sadly there were some screaming 3 year olds in the movie so I would go see a later showing to avoid the infant crowd. And for 8 year olds and up this flick is just fine. yeah, it's somewhat macbre, but any gore and guts is animated so it's not a big deal. See it and take your (older) kids too.

A fun movie with minor pacing issues

Really, the title says it all. This movie is a lot of fun. There's a great deal of tongue-in-cheek humor, and ultimately it has a worthwhile message - Don't be a bully. It's just not nice.

Unfortunately, through much of the movie, it feels like it takes way to long to get anywhere.

Certainly a movie worth seeing, but you probably won't feel too bad if you miss the big screen and end up watching it as a rental instead.

Funny movie, but not for children under age 15.

Not for children under 15. Has several choice words, references to sex and homosexuality. The movie would frighten young kids and leave most under 15 with questions or awkward comments. It is a funny movie for older teens and adults.

Cute, scary for very small children but good introduction to to the genera.

    by ekvegas

Cute, scary for small children but good introduction to to the genera. Conservative families may not be so keen with the "lifestyles" mentioned but not explored. Too bad I can't give something in between a so-so and go.
