    Don't MIS Out!!!

In a word Beautiful. They took this classic musical and reinvented while keeping all the same elements we have grown to love. Filmed to perfection but make sure you have a stock in Kleenex.

    Doesn't work!

I tried it, didn't like it. Left after 1 1/2 hrs. It does not work! You cannot cast very good actors and expect them to sing in a musical. Their voices are not good enough for the grandeur of this film or story. Really difficult to watch and listen to... the sound was just not equivalent to the picture. Very disappointing.
Borat was the only redeeming quality of the film.

    Oh Dear God...

The previews looked like they might actually pull this off - but I almost left the theatre!

Hugh Jackman and Anne both did lovely performances - but an operetta, I did not know it was and the movie SO could have been better served by words instead of sing songy things to move the plot forward.

I know many people loved the stage show, I have friends who went twice - but, as a huge fan of Stephen Sondheim - this musical just has none of the panache.

It stands on 'grandeur' and it's huge following from the stage.

Now, I know why I never saw it in the theatre. Glad I didn't pay $75 to see it!

And, poor Russell Crowe, someone put him out of his misery - what were they thinking?

    Enough said ;-)

Rarely does a movie give the same passion as the Theater Musical

    The acting was wonderful.
The singing being filmed live allowed for real emotions to come through.
I cried in several places and got goose bumps in others.
There were parts that made you laugh.
This is in my opinion one of the best movies ever made.
I felt like I was watching an amazing musical - not a movie.
I highly suggest it and if you have seen the musical live before this will not disappoint you.

If you liked the stage production you'll generally like the movie

The movie did have flaws. Les Mis is all about the message wrapped in a spectacular sound track. The weakest part of the movie, however, was the inability of the main protaganists (Hugh jackman as Jean Val Jean and Russell Crow especially as Javert) to deliver the voices that are needed to carry the compelling music. Without that, it's just another drama. Fans of the stage show will generally overlook the shortcoming although probably leave the theatre unfulfilled. I'm not so sure about the casual moviegoer. A further problem is the incessant closeups, although I understand that they were necessary to block out the boom mikes that were needed to record the live singing during filming. All in all, a Go to See, but don't expect to be overwhelmed.

    Bring the Kleenex

    by gigg101

An amazing performance by all - the raw emotion that was displayed in this film brought such a credibility to the delivery of the story, it's characters and the inner values of the story. Most striking is the message of Val Jean's steadfastness to remember the grace he received and to pay that grace forward, replacing the bitterness and hate. It isn't easy to watch - times during that period were desperate and they don't sugar coat that - but sometimes we need a dose of reality to make us understand how much we take for granted. We left the theater humbled.

    One of my Favorites!

The actors in this film are fantastic!!! I have always loved the stage productions of Les Mis. It was nice to see it on screen.. I gained a much better comprehension of the story than I had before.
    Beautiful cinematography!
    Beautiful music. Beautiful story.
A great movie to see over the holidays!!
Not a move for small children.... (long, and violence in some scenes, but )good for teens through adults.

    Almost as good as Broadway!

    by Tomd2

We have seen Les Miserables 3 times on Broadway, the movie without singing (awful) and finally this movie. This movie is as close to Broadway as you can get without seeing it live. Hugh Jackman did an incredible job! We took our 2 daughters(ages 8 and 14) to see it, and only one scene was a little questionable. The sex scene was a little too graphic and would better be left to the imagination, but these days they don't leave much to the imagination. We all loved this movie. The actress who played Eponine did a phenomenal job! I had never heard of her, but am sure we will be seeing more of her in the future. I wish I could have hated Russell Crowe more, but that is just not possible. It is so nice to have this movie, since the Broadway show closed. I plan on buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD! Definitely, go see it! You will not regret it. It brings you through every emotion. I cry every time I see this story, whether it is live or in a movie. The music is phenomenal!!!

    Les Miserables

Definately a "must go". A most amazing production. Others have complained about the use of actors as singers as opposed to the usual use of singers as actors but, to me, the imperfections in the vocals added a touch of humanity and realism to the film.

    Definitely an Award Winner

Les Miserables was really good. It was a little tough to take Russel Crowe seriously at points but other than that the movie really held up. The set decoration was terrific, costumes were really good, cinematography was pretty good, there were some strange backgrounds where you could tell they were on a blue screen, but whatever.

The musical performances where alright, there were definitely better performers than others.

Don't go see this movie for the musical performances, I would go see it because you want to see a pretty good movie that has a lot of good actors in it.

Also, tell your girlfriend you want to go see it, that'll probably win you some points.

    An amazing story of redemption

Set aside the fact that this is one of the best musicals to be made probably ever, this movie has one of the best plats and stories, and will make you and want to stand up and cheer by the end. The music in the film in outstanding and the singing is the most realistic of any musical I have ever seen! The actors have out done themselves, especially Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. The movie is a bit long, but the plot does not drag on and the musical numbers help it to carry on. If you are a fan of musicals, you will love it! If you are not a fan of musicals, you might still want to see it just for the plot, despite all the singing.

    Beautifully done!!

Les Misérables has been my favorite play since it came out in 1985 and I have to say I had low expectations about the movie version, especially after the so-so movie adaptations of Phantom, Evita, and Sweeney Todd. I was wrong!! The movie version of Les Misérables was awesome!! The visuals were stunning and the acting/singing were superbly done. If any of you were on the fence about seeing the movie you should definitely go see it!

    Oscar for best everything....

While musicals never win best picture, Les Miz should win for everything else! Best actor,
best supporting actress and most incredible cinematography. I loved every minute. At the end
the whole audience applauded wildly. In one word.....STUNNING!

Siilence in the theater was amazing

All the good movies I have seen lately have nearly silent theaters with people engrossed in the movie, not their own lives. Les Miserables is another in the series to be like that. Not sure how it will do at the Academy Awards, but is definitely a movie to see, especially in the large screen of the theater.

This movie is absolutely AWESOME! The cast is fabulous, I was particularly impressed with Eddie Redmayne as Marius. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe were fab as the two male leads additionally Sacha Baron Cohen and Helene Bonham Carter were extremely good as the Thernadiers!

It is definitely a MUST SEE - 5 Stars.
