Well done
I read the un-abridged novel over 2012 after stumbling upon the 25th Anniversary Concert that premiered on PBS in 2011. The music was great, and this movie did very good justice to that. In fact, I found the movie to be very similar to the play in all aspects. It's different from the book, for obvious reasons-the book is 1,222 pgs long, so clearly they had to make some SERIOUS edits but the basic storyline is still good and moving. The videography was well done, but I didn't much like that it was all shot in a shaky way. I'm sure that was intentional, to make you feel like you were "in" the moment, but it almost gave me a headache at times. And they do sing everything-like 99% of the movie is in song, which should be noted if you're considering seeing it. But like I said, the music was awesome, and Samantha Barks, who played Eponine (in the movie as well as the PBS play) stole the show with On My Own. She was my favorite character, and I'm SO glad they cast her. MADE the movie for me.
