    LES MISÉRABLES is utterly fantastic!!!

LES MISÉRABLES is the best movie I have ever seen in my life. It has everything: drama, exceptional acting, beautiful scenery, wonderful singing, fantastic music, ravishing score, outstanding costumes, props to die for and the most compelling, uplifting, inspirational story I have ever encountered in a movie in my life. You must go see this movie!!!

    Happily surprised

    by

I was amazed how true to the play this movie was! The singing blew me away along with the acting and the set! The words that come to mind are amazing and awestruck! A must see for every one who loves musicals and Broadway plays. Action lovers like my husband might not enjoy as much as I did. I went to see it with my sisters on January 1. Great way to start the New Year.

    Rivals the live Broadway show

I went into this movie expecting to be disappointed - how could Hollywood remake the magnificence of a Broadway theatre experience? And I was overjoyed to sit through what I believe is one of the best films of all time. The cast is amazing, each with their own take on the well-known characters and each with their own wonderful voices and acting skills. This is a must see for anyone who loves the movies - and especially for anyone who did not get the chance to see this fantastic story played out on stage. I now have to go buy the soundtrack to wear it out all over again :)

Definately Worth The Money, Time and Tissues!!

The first thing I should say is - I loved the movie; I feel the movie did the live production justice and absolutely respected the music as much as it could. I have seen it several times in London and Broadway.
With that being said - after I removed my 'rose colored glasses' (and dried my eyes), I realized a couple things that kept this from being in my top 5 of all time favorites. I understand those who still have on their 'glasses' might disagree; I still have to get this off my chest.
1 - Cosette/Amanda Seyfried pretty much ruined the character for me. I felt her vibrato was way to tight and overused - not to mention weak.
2 - Marious/Eddie Redmayne was just not handsome and rugged enough. Simply put.
    3 - I felt Valjean/Hugh Jackman and Javert/Russell Crowe did a much better job than Fantine/Ann Hathaway!!
There is a fine line in casting actors for singers yadda-yadda, but at least the casting can match the character descriptions.
    I recommend this movie whole-hearted

    hugh jackman is valjean!!!

perfectly cast, scored, filmed and brought brilliantly to screen. having been a les mis devotee for 20 or more years, I wept throughout entire production. If there is one necessary critizism..the part of Javer should not have been Russel Crowe. He was vocally WEAK and was out gunned even by Anne Hathaway...one critizism...poor choice of Javer, The part of Javer should have been POWERFUL as in all other productions. Crowe sounded more like a boy than a seasoned policeman.

    AMAZING

Kept me entranced for the entire movie, don't let the play time scare you. You don't even realize that the 2 hours and 38 minutes has passed.

    FABULOUS!

    by Hopesy

I have seen "Les Miz" on stage four times. It's my favorite musical. The movie lived up to my expectations. In fact, I think I enjoyed it more than on stage. The sets were amazing, the photography beautiful. But the best thing is, and will always be, the music. I loved having the actors sing in real-time, not lip-sync. Hugh Jackman continues to enthrall me, and Ann Hathaway was outstanding in her role as Faline. I see many Golden Globes and Oscars in the future for this movie, especially as best movie, best actor and actress, and musical score.

    Great Acting - Bad Directing

Great performances by all in this movie. Samantha Barks & Anne Hathaway stand out from the rest of the stellar cast. Only issue was the excessive close-ups for all performers for each song. This picture should have had an epic and grand feel but the excessive use of close ups for each key moment made the film "smaller" than it could have been.

    Fantastic Movie!!

I wasn't sure that I would enjoy it, or especially if my husband would like it because it's a musical. I was pleasantly surprised. We both absolutely loved the movie. We laughed and cried and are so glad we took the afternoon to see it. I expect that it will win many academy awards! The acting in it was superb as well as the special effects, and story line.

    Long But Good

I liked this movie, which was a surprise to me since I'm not a big fan of musicals. The singing was fine and the sets were great. What a story! Kudos to all of the major actors and actresses. They were great.

    Les Miserables

Exceeded high expectations. Film opened new appreciation of powerful charecters struggling with love and choices to be honest with soul. Score and vocals terrific. Will be a film that marks the early 21st century

    Well done

I read the un-abridged novel over 2012 after stumbling upon the 25th Anniversary Concert that premiered on PBS in 2011. The music was great, and this movie did very good justice to that. In fact, I found the movie to be very similar to the play in all aspects. It's different from the book, for obvious reasons-the book is 1,222 pgs long, so clearly they had to make some SERIOUS edits but the basic storyline is still good and moving. The videography was well done, but I didn't much like that it was all shot in a shaky way. I'm sure that was intentional, to make you feel like you were "in" the moment, but it almost gave me a headache at times. And they do sing everything-like 99% of the movie is in song, which should be noted if you're considering seeing it. But like I said, the music was awesome, and Samantha Barks, who played Eponine (in the movie as well as the PBS play) stole the show with On My Own. She was my favorite character, and I'm SO glad they cast her. MADE the movie for me.

    Good, not great....

I'm not sure why, but somehow I was not as emotionally engaged as I've been in the live productions, even with being able to see the performers in close-up. Hugh Jackman, one of my favorites, was excellent, and the rest of the actors were quite good and the voices were fine, except for Russell Crowe, who was just OK. For Javert, they should have gone for a better singer, and I actually have to say I've seen him act better as well. Last, it was cool to see and hear the beautiful voice of Colm Wilkenson, one of the finest Jean ValJeans of the stage - here he plays the priest. It's definitely worth seeing if you love the music or want to be introduced to a great musical.

If you are a fan of musicals as I am, and you grew up listening to the les mis soundtrack, you may find it hard to resist singing along. The performances are powerful and the movie is shot beautifully. A few minor issues, but the movie really gets in your face like theatre can't. Highly, highly recommended.

Epic movie. Les Mis is a must see even for non-musical fans.

There were no weak spots for me. Started strong and built steadily. Hugh Jackman owned the role. Big fan of the original stage production and this delivered. Everything I could hope for. Kudos to the entire talented cast. Every one. Brutal and moving. I heard lots of sniffling by the end.
