    Fabulous!

I was worried about the length of this movie (2hrs 38mins) but it flew by....it was sooo beautiful. Cast is excellent and the music is out of this world beautiful. Would definitely recommend!

    Les Miserables

Wonderfully written, awsome directing and the acting was the best. I read that Russell Crowe has never sang before. I was surprised and pleased that he was good in a singing role. Both Men and women left the theatre wiping their eyes.

    Beyond amazing

I was a little hesitant going to see this movie. I am not one that really have ever liked muisicals. However, this movie grabbed me right from the beginning and never let go. It was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. The pain and sacrific that these charaters portaid was second to none. Each scene was a driving as the last throughout. Ann Hathaways potrail was stunning. You could feel everything she went through. Although a small part, she captured the true meaning of acting and it stayed with me. Hugh Jackman was amazing and was surprised how good Russel Crowe could sing. This movie is one of the best, if not the best, movie I have ever seen.

    Moved to tears

Staying true to the story line, this director & cast brought the raw emotions of this film right down to each person in the theater! We watched it as a family, and I was surprised to hear the utter silence of the audience while watching this thrilling movie - it was as if each one of the packed house was barely breathing!. My 16 yr son was snickering at me, as tears trickled down my face & I was silently mouthing the songs, till he heard people weeping around us! He began to pay more attention to the plot line & yielded to the emotions that each song, each actor, each scene brought to the heart. I heard so many sniffles around me as others emotions were tweeked out of them. An awsome movie that I will not only go back to see again, but will be purchasing this for my home viewing!! DO NOT HESITATE to go watch this!!! You will NOT regret it! I am still humming the songs today.....if I knew that the cast could hear me...I would shout "BRAVO"

    A Truly Epic Film

    by cpsuval

It is rare that an iconic stage play can be turned into an epic film.
Seeing Les Miserables brings back the experience of seeing one of the truly epic films such as Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments or Gone With the Wind.
This movie is big, it's grand and it's exciting. You need to see this on the big screen.
Anne Hathaway is astounding. She proves she is a performer and not just an actor.
The movie actual manages to improve upon the play by making use of the one technique live performance cannot use, in scenes such as "I Dreamed a Dream" Fantine is allowed to go to the end of emotional truth. Anne Hathaway actually "loses it" and the director allows it.
Through out the film one is stunned by the visual pictures and story played out.

    Life Imitates Life

Man is cruel.. Whether by nature or by his law. That is why he will never be able to rule himself with perfect justice. In real life or in fantasy drama cinema. Movies like this makes me appreciate the truths I know where mankind is concerned in real life.
Overall-The singing I give a 9.5 out of 10. (I am Gary Morris spoiled) Everything else was spot on. It was Gone with the Wind comparison worthy. Yes, see it. Appeciate it, and when you go home, think about what your life is and why.

    Bitter Sweet

We thought the movie was great. We have seen the stage production and this is the first time we really understood the story. The sets, costumes, and casting were all amazing. We were surprised it was all "sung". Everyone should see it.

Les Mis...A Rebirth of the Musical on Film

Ok, you've seen the play. Millions have. You doubt movie actors could live up to the quality of stage performer's professional voices. You are correct, BUT the acting of the singing, if you follow me, is supurb and just as moving in it's own way. Sure Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Sasha Cohen may not be "professional" singers, but Russ and Anne can act you into tears.

    The CG is magnificent.

Personally, I would prefer them not do the dirty look (bad teeth, swimming in sewer, absolutely no makeup, living in filth, etc.). Realism and musicals don't really need to mix. Only an opinion.

Jackman is the best of all worlds. He excels at whatever he does.

    Incredible movie

    by

I loved loved this movie! I wasn't too familiar with the story, so I was enjoying the elements of surprise; I see why this is such a well loved story.
Amazing acting and singing and beautiful cinematography. I wouldn't recommend for children under 12, only b/c of the high drama content.
Go see this movie. It will fill your soul! Such a beautiful, dreamy yet gritty realistic movie.

    Half & Half

I liked the movie in that it allowed me to better comprehend what I had seen in the musical and in understanding the meaning of the songs. But I was somewhat disappointed with the actual singing. One example was that of Hugh Jackman, who I saw on Broadway. his performance / voice on Broadway was fabulous. Whereas, his voice sounded disappointing in the movie. He was not alone in bad singing performances. Thus I did not find one singing performance that took me away or that I would even remember.

    Les Mis

This movie takes some big chances and isn't like other movie musicals and is in some ways different than the stage production. The songs are now spoke/sung and not just sung so the actors can act like the character and not just focus on the singing. It was much easier to hear all the lyrics in the movie than in the stage recording. The audience applauded after several songs and also for a long while at the end. I must have become emotional and cried at least 3-4 times during the movie (and I've seen the stage show 4times...so there's very little excuse for my lsing it so easily). Hathaway was incredible. So was Redmanyne and Barks. Jackman''s acting was incredible and his voice had its moments. Poor Russell will be eating his Crowe for a long time over this one...The sets, costumes and camera work from sweeping to hand held close ups can only be described as epic.

    Excellent with a few bumps

Great movie and nice representation of the stage performance. Cinema able to drive more emotion into the scenes with vast props and effects. Overall Jackman was a wonderful surprise! Eponine and little Gavroche were also a nice surprise. I was very happy to see Colm Wilkensen play the Bishop. What a great move to tie in the stage performance with the movie. Most of the other staff were good, not stage quality, but good enough. However, my only complaint - Russell Crowe! He paled in comparison and quite frankly did not belong there. I would have preferred to see any one else really as Javert. All the choices in Hollywood and they casted him? Javert was quite a disappointment.

Overall some changes in the script and lyrics which may bother the loyal stage fans but all in all a great depiction.

    Phenomenal

    by

This film production was phenomenal. I had high expectations and they fulfilled all of those expectations and then some. The acting was flawless; Anne Hathaway, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, and Aaron Tveit were incredible. The decision to do the film with live singing was a great one because it created an emotional connection between the story and audience that couldn't have been achieved in a studio. I'm planning on seeing this movie a few more times in theaters before buying it on DVD. I highly recommend taking some time out of your day to go see this movie soon. In my opinion, it is the best musical movie yet.

    Met my every expectation

    by

My expectations of this event were such that I was not attending a concert performance. Rather, I was listening to the common person of the times sing about their torment and struggles in life so that I could actually feel that pain. I did.

The live vocals made the performances more emotional and real. I'll never want to see dubbed vocals again.....

    The way it should be....

    by lb3894

This is exactly how I have imagined Les Mis should be performed. The grim, poverty, suffering and anguish are all there. This is not a Broadway musical with perfect voices but a true interpretation of the characters? emotions. If there aren?t Oscars coming from this, then there is no appreciation for how a movie can touch the hearts of a crowded theater.
