    great to see this ..

    by

I loved seeing it on the big screen - beautifully done. I don't understand - with all the amazing singers in the world, some of the choices ... but it is a must see to enjoy.

So Deep, Meaningful, Super Well Done BUT NOT FOR YOUNG KIDS - Should have been PG-16?

    by gianca

The singing throughout was weird at first, but when I got used to it, it was wonderful. So many meaningful messages for our culture today. Sacrifice, forgiveness, perseverance, love, faith, standing up to injustice, - it is a must go - the ONLY down side was the raciness - I thought this reviewer summarized it well - at least three sex scenes - no nudity - but still inappropriate for younger ages - friend had to leave and miss rest of movie with his 11 year old.

"The most disappointing aspect of the movie to me was its raciness. I was particularly disappointed by how sex and prostitution were treated as funny in Master of the House, although those same things ruined Fantine's life. The producers seemed to be sending a very mixed message, caving to the typical Hollywood expectations rather than focusing on the social evil that Victor Hugo showed prostitution to be."

    2+ years Waiting....NOT Disappointed!

I heard this movie was coming out before they had even fully cast it! Each confirmed actor brought more excitement! I know this story and music inside and out and LOVE It too much so I was very critical (not negatively) through my whole first viewing.

The only Actress I wasn't sure about was Amanda Seyfried, but she was incredible! She nailed the high notes and I actually preferred her voice to some of the other Cosette's that have a hard operatic tone. I really enjoyed Russell Crowe's performance. Going in I reminded myself these people were professional actors not singers (for the most part) and Hugh Grant was NOT Colm Wilkinson; what he lacked in singing ability he made up for in emotion in his acting. I was never disappointed by his singing though.

I loved hearing the sniffles around the theater, but I was smiling at each sad scene with joy of how well it was done!

    Not a musical lover

This film was done right. Friends debate if cast can sing or not. I say it's the best combination of musical and movie I have ever seen as an adult.

This is by far the best movie I've seen this year maybe in the last ten years

From beginning to end the performances, cinematography, music, everything, was absolutely astounding. Les Miserables the movie is a movie and not on stage. So it pays to go with the understanding that you will experience the story in a different way from the stage musical. Anne Hathaway was beyond amazing as Fontene. I was brought to tears by her performance.

    Brilliant!

This movie was everytihing and more I expected it to be. Who knew the voices of these awe inspiring actors?! I will never see Russell Crowe the same way again! The visuals were astounding as well. If you love "Les Miserables" on stage, you will love this movie even more. I can't wait to own it on DVD when it's available! It's already on my wish list!

I so wanted this to be epic!

Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman get an A+ for effort, however
The vocal delivery on such amazing songs is just not there.
Being a Huge fan of the Musical, soundtrack and book I walked away feeling
Like a kid at Christmas that thought he was getting a really cool gift
    And got socks instead.
The rest of the cast is stellar, the cine photography costume design and
Musical adaptation for the screen will definitely take home the awards.
Whomever cast Eddie Redmayne as Marius deserves an Oscar .
    He is BRILLIANT and flawless

    We were blown away!

    by

I would never have thought that a film could out do a Broadway production. Boy was I wrong! This film will be a great hit, but more importantly it will become a film classic. As a fan of live theatre, this film gives you the best of both worlds and then some. The singing was all filmed as live action. Usually the singing is pre-recorded and then edited in during filming of live action. This is not done and I say it makes the movie! The raw emotion during the musical numbers is breath taking. Some have said the singing quality, even for Jackman is not the best. They are mising the point. The unpolished quality is what makes it all real. You can't have a close up on Broadway. To see the emotion come through during those long close ups is literally breath taking. I mean the theatre was so pin drop quiet that people were literally holding their breath. You must see this film on the big screen! If this film doesn't move you, nothing will and you have no heart.

    The Wretched

    by vnwx36a

    The film was o.k.
The acting was decent. The directing was o.k., the camera work was acceptable. the writer couldn't get thru the film without sex & violence.
We are so dulled by the sex and violence the kids won't notice.

Les Miserables, worth seeing even if you hate musicals.

I've never liked musicals, but Les Miserables (2012), is an exception. Something in the trailer I guess just compelled me to go. I'll start with the negative, mostly personal. There is very little dialog spoken, everything is sung, (I know, it's a musical, but this movie could have used breaks in the constant singing, 2.5 hours of it). There is one scene that made me nearly vomit in my popcorn bag, Hugh Jackman trekking through raw sewage, so be ready for that. Aside from that, all the actors and actresses deserve academy awards. I know Ann Hathaway is up for an award for " I dreamed a dream" which was beautiful, but in my view, Samantha Barks deserves the award for "On my Own", which is the best Out of all of them. This movie was extremely well done for its genre. Cheers.

    Movie was well done

    by

I was pleasantly surprised at the actors' singing abilities as well as how the story was presented. The cinematography was outstanding! It's one I will probably see again and own once the DVD comes out.

    FABULOUS FILM

    by farbie

I didn't really have much expectation for this movie, after seeing all of the other Oscar-Best-Film Nominated films. It is probably the best Musical (really, Opera) that has been put on film. Les Miserables was, for me, at least, only a so-so Musical Show, in part because the production I saw didn't really capture the essence of Victor Hugo's story. All of the cast is incredible, from Anne Hatheway, to Hugh Jackman, right on down the line. The fact that the actors actually SANG when they were filming, rather than just "lip syncing' as is done with most musicals, probably made a difference. The orchestration and orchestra were also incredible. This is a MUST SEE fllm, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wins Best Picture.

    Spectacular and moving

    by tedd17

Anyone who has been a fan of the stage production of Les Miserables should love this big screen adaptation. Russell Crowe can't sing to save his life but everyone else shines. Hugh Jackman rocks in his role as Jean Valjean. I loved this movie.

    Wolverine can sing!

    by dck1

Very well done on all fronts. Pleasant surprise to hear how well Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfreid sang (but their limitations became apparent when compared to the real singerrs like Marius and the other young rebels.
