    Rarely does a movie give the same passion as the Theater Musical

    The acting was wonderful.
    The singing being filmed live allowed for real emotions to come through.
    I cried in several places and got goose bumps in others.
    There were parts that made you laugh.
    This is in my opinion one of the best movies ever made.
    I felt like I was watching an amazing musical - not a movie.
    I highly suggest it and if you have seen the musical live before this will not disappoint you.

    Les Miserables!

    This movie was fantastic! If you are going to see this for the singing I will say it's not a must go. They weren't all bad singers (except Russell Crowe) but if you grew up watching Les Miserables on Broadway or anything like that the singing will disappoint you. It's obvious that the casters chose amazing acting over amazing singing which is fine, but I wish they had only sang the songs and not the whole script if they were going to do it that way. Aside from the not perfect singing I loved it!

    Les Miserables

    Definately a "must go". A most amazing production. Others have complained about the use of actors as singers as opposed to the usual use of singers as actors but, to me, the imperfections in the vocals added a touch of humanity and realism to the film.

    Les Miserables (2012) How can you not love this film?

    I have seen the Broadway Show 4 times. I have seen the road show in Philly 3 times. Every version is different and every one in its own right is beautiful and moving and wonderful entertainment. The film version is also unique and wonderful. It is new and vital and stunning in it's production values. Ann Hathaway steals the show. Loved it!

    Beautiful Musical & Story

    If you love musicals, you must see this. I was amazed at the voices of the stars of the movie. It was moving and depressing and uplifting at the same time.

    After seeing the Broadway show, my wife and I were disappointed. The acting is so-so and Russel Crowe is not believable as Javert. Sascha Baren Cohen as the Inn Keeper was the best character by far!

    Better Than My Expectations

    I expected the movie to be "okay," because I LOVE the Broadway show. I didn't think it could be _that_ good. It was! Some parts were better and some worse than the stage version. Better than stage: Anne Hathaway's performance was incredible. Because you can see "close ups," it really conveyed her raw, true emotion. She needs an Oscar. I also thought the movie made the story easier to follow due to the magic of movies, jumping scenes, etc. Worse than stage: Russell Crowe. While he wasn't terrible, his vocal range wasn't where it needed to be to do the song "Stars" or his "end scene" justice. I also didn't feel that he showed as much determination and emotion and Javert should have. Of course I'm also obsessed with Philip Quast as _THE_ Javert and it's hard for someone to come close to him: See his version of "Stars" on YouTube. A small detail I wish they put in the movie: keeping the line, "She is the first to fall," referring to Eponine. I think it's important. Great movie!

    Les Miserables

    I've seen the Bdwy. prod. 3 times, and played in the pit of a community prod. However, the movie turned into THE MOST moving and easiest to understand the in-depth storyline of all! The grandeur of the set gave more supportive background info necessary to understand the peoples' trials of the time. When you see it live you might read the synopsis before each act, but then when 9 -15 years go by, you might be caught off guard, and confused momentarily. The movie's transitions were more clear. The cinematography was awesome and varied: including pull aways, zoom in's, and action camera's running through the streets as characters. Acting was some of the most superb I can ever remember! Much had to do with the director's choice to have the singing be done LIVE in the filming! NOTHING like it before!! NOT meant for small children: length and dark story! If this doesn't win BEST PICTURE I'll quit caring about the OSCARS! It's EPIC! Russell Crow was weak as Javert (ONLY complaint)

    Great movie

    Definite must see. If you are a fan of the musical you will love this movie!! This is the best move I have been to this year! this whole cast was excellent, Take alone lots of tissues.

    Les Miserables

    Absolutely excellent! The most brilliant casting was of Coln Wilkinson as the Bishop; he was the original Jean Valjean on stage. The scenery was spectacular portraying the darkness of Victor Hugo's epic novel. The voices were all very strong. The children's voices, Cozettte & Gavroche, were amazing, as were the adult Cozette and Marius. Hugh Jackman did a great portrayal of Jean Valjean and Anne Hathaway's Fontine was excellent. The only weakness would be that of the voice of Russell Crow as Javert though he played the part beautifully. We will see this again and again!

    LesMiserables

    A classic, beautifully portrayed on the big screen. A poignant story that demonstrates the complexity of being "right" and how it can manifest itself differently in different people. In the end, it is the power of GRACE that wins the day. MUST GO!

    I'm not a crier!

    Yes, it's true, you might want to bring tissues. I loved this movie, despite Russel Crowe's poorly written music. At first I was disappointed by the lack of dialogue, but quickly got over it and was thoroughly entranced with the show. I will most definitely purchase this on DVD when it is released.

    Almost as good as Broadway!

    We have seen Les Miserables 3 times on Broadway, the movie without singing (awful) and finally this movie. This movie is as close to Broadway as you can get without seeing it live. Hugh Jackman did an incredible job! We took our 2 daughters(ages 8 and 14) to see it, and only one scene was a little questionable. The sex scene was a little too graphic and would better be left to the imagination, but these days they don't leave much to the imagination. We all loved this movie. The actress who played Eponine did a phenomenal job! I had never heard of her, but am sure we will be seeing more of her in the future. I wish I could have hated Russell Crowe more, but that is just not possible. It is so nice to have this movie, since the Broadway show closed. I plan on buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD! Definitely, go see it! You will not regret it. It brings you through every emotion. I cry every time I see this story, whether it is live or in a movie. The music is phenomenal!!!

    Different format/different interpretation

    It's amazing how differently the same story comes across when presented in a different format. I've read the book, seen the play and now the movie. Each has something unique to offer. The story is compelling in any genre, and while I personally enjoyed the roadshow the best, I did enjoy the movie. I think the movie actors who are cinema professionals did an outstanding job with the character portrayals. I thought Anne Hathaway especially brought a depth of character to Fontine that you wouldn't find in the roadshow. With Russell Crowe as Jabert, he came across as much more human than the strict "legal automaton" that one usually imagines. That said, the road show are cast not only for their acting abilities, but for their voices. If you are expecting the same quality of musicianship, you might be a little disappointed. It's a trade, but again, one worthy of making. I think the best thing about the movie is that it brings the timeless story of "Les Mis" to the masses.

    Drama acting, great. Music performance not good.

    I loved the stage production. The music is wonderful ........ but the movie has chosen to ignore the beautiful music and opt for great actors who do the story justice but can not do the music justice. If you love the music this production will not satisfy. If you can settle for a well acted story you will like it. And what is it with Javier walking around on the roof tops of Paris? It does not make up for his inability to deliver the great music that Javier sings.
