    Go See This NOW!

    by dcb0515

I am a 60 year old retired military man and I loved this movie! I was skittish because it is a musical but it is definitely NOT just a "chick flick"! The story is compelling and the movie may be the best one I have EVER seen in my life! Go now and take you Kleenex or handkerchief because you will need it.

    Everything I Expected

Having had the privilege of playing the stage version of this show almost every time it has come through Chicago since 1991, I find it difficult to believe that more suitable performers couldn't have been found to fill the lead roles. Although well-acted, the "musical" portion of this great "musical" left me cringing numerous times. On the whole, the film is worth seeing, but as a professional musician I am far from able to give it a "thumbs up" on its musical merits.

Whether you've seen the play or not - the film stands alone as outstanding.

    by MDKC

The singing is phenomenal. I was so impressed by Russell Crowe's singing performance. He really played Javert well. Anne Hathaway's pain and grief were so real you felt so much compassion for her. You will cry her tears.
I am a Hugh Jackman fan and he delivered to my expectations.
Be sure to see it the 1st time soon, because you'll want to see it again.
The sets were great - you really get the sense of the despair, filth, and poor economy. However, the director loves close-ups of the actors so much of the images are faded out. The close-ups do draw you into the characters feelings and emotions. That's why you'll need the whole box of Kleenex.

    Bravo!!!!!!

It has been a very long time since I have been to a movie that had all the attendants clapping at the end of the movie. This is one show that cannot be missed!!!

    Amazing!!

As a fan of the book and musical, I was skeptical that a movie would equal the experience. Boy, what an amazing movie!! I was even surprised by the caliber of the singing. I was moved from beginning to end... Hugh Jackman was so incredibly good, the academy must give him the award despite the tough competition this year. Truly a best picture and must see!!

    Wow! Les Miserables

On PBS, I saw the show where the singers lined up on stage to tell the story.
In the movie it was MUCH MORE PERSONAL! Wow! In the movie, I really got to know the characters on a much more (and OUTSTANDING) level. Yeah, this was a tissue box movie! And I cried! But it was so BEAUTIFULLY (and often agonizingly done - which, by the way, was the beauty of it.) So much of the movie was so Increible! Really up close and personal with the Characters! The story was really well performed. And, the sets were fabulous! I got to know his story so much better than the stage play! I LOVED it! It should win some Oscars!

    Very glad I went

    by jca814

Anne Hathaway was better than the hype. Hugh Jackman was extremely moving and convincing in his portrayal of Valjean. It was GREAT to see Colm Wilkinson - inspired casting there. The actors who portrayed Marius, Eponine, Gavroche, Enjolros, were all exceptional in there roles. Helena Bonham Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen were very watchable and entertaining as the Thenardiers. The only disappointment I had was Russell Crowe. He is a very fine actor and played the part of Javert wonderfully. However his voice was not quite up to the score and more than once I wanted him to really belt it out and he just didn't get there. Definitely encourage people to see it though. One of the best musical screen adaptations out there.

    Good movie

    by mattk97

I thought the production and acting was excellent, I had high expectations for Hugh Jackman, unfortunately they were not met as I felt his singing was not up to his predecessors. Yes, I realize this was a movie and not a broadway production, however the nasal voice bothered me all movie long. I wish Thenardier would have stuck with one accent, he switched between French and Cockney. Otherwise the Thenardiers were wonderfully wicked. Anne Hathaway stole the show, if she doesn't win Best Supporting Actress awards by the handful it will be highway robbery.

Definitely worth seeing, I'll most likely even buy it, but I won't buy the sound track, I'll keep listening to the great Colm Wilkinson as I have still never heard a Valjean played better than he.

    Les Miserables

    by

A cinematic wonder, One of the best musical I've seen in years. Anne Hathaway's best role of her career. The best of all the versions made in this country. Her rendition of I Dreaded a Dream and the sond At the End of the Day both best songs in the show. Will make my list as one of the 10 best movies ever made. A must see film. Anne to win the oscar hands down.

    Powerful Movie!!

    by bkwood

I love the original Les Miserables but this was so much better. The actors put their hearts and souls into their singing and made this version the best ever! I was mesmerized the whole 2.5 hours. Cried at the end which is not something I normally do. Powerful message!

    Les Miserables

Hugh Jackman will take your breath away. He portrays his character to perfection throughout the entire film. What a fine actor he is.....and it doesn't hurt that he's tall, handsome and a major hunk....but I applaude his acting talent about his physical gorgeousness....and that's putting it really high. The movie is superb! Don't miss it. Every actor is spot on perfect. It was hard to see Russell Crowe in such a menancing part because I think he's more tender than his macho-ness in films portrays. I'd love to see him in a romance film. He is fabulous at his craft...but then again, that's what made him so believable in this movie...Wow!! Ann Hathaway was wonderful...she's so beautiful. All actors were superb and made the entire story pull you in. I went to their world for 2 1/2 hours, although the film went by so quickly. I felt transformed afterwards. This is a must see! I salute everyone involved in this film.

    Spellbound

    by mgl28

Not a sound (except sniffling) from the theater. Very strong performances. Felt like I needed a shower after the sewer scene.
Loved Colm Wilkinson as the priest!!!! Very cool.

    Les Mis

    by

Have seen the play Les Mis many times, so you know I'm a fan. I had very high expectations for this movie. The first hour was alittle disappointing, lots of very close shots and some of the vocals weren't up to standards set by the play. But hang on, it builds and the songs and acting take your breath away. From the Dream song from Ann Hathaway to all of Cossette and Marius' songs are fantastic. Bring lots of tissues. I loved it and want to go again.

    Les Mis - the Movie

Best movie I've seen in a long, long time! It's nearly three hours but you're mind will not wander and begin wondering when it will be over. Anne Hathaway will win an Oscar for the "Take Me Home" number for sure. Hugh Jackman was awesome and Amanda Seyfried's voice is better than I ever thought it was from her performance in Mama Mia. Russell Crowe is always a great actor and was perfectly cast for this part, just struggled with a few of the notes in his songs. The other supporting cast was great as well, especially Marius and his buddy manning the barricade. Don't deliberate, just go see it, you'll be glad you did.

    Overall Great movie!!!

    by WillHH

I took my 10yr old daughter to see this the 26th. I had seen it on Broadway & was looking forward to sharing the experience with her. The cast was good, for the most part. There were some stand out performances! Anne Hathaway was fantastic! Such raw emotion & wonderful singing! Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne & Samantha Barks were spectacular!! Hugh Jackman was passable & for the most part was great in the role. There were a few songs where he spoke the high notes or took it down an octave. He did a good job with "Bring him home" & his acting was great as usual! Russel Crowe is not a singer & proved it in this film. Javert is supposed to be a passionate role that has his beliefs challenged & he played him the same through the whole film (scared/stiff). My daughter however sat rapt the whole film and loved it! She left the theater singing "Do you hear the people sing...who will be strong & stand with me?" We left the theater with snow falling & singing...an overall magical experience!
