Les Miserables - Filled with Grace

Very enjoyable and filled with deep religious grace that made it even more powerful. It is a long movie that is not very suitable for restless children.

    NOT a musical

FYI, this is NOT a musical, THIS is an Opera. I'm a fan of musicals, and not a fan of Opera. The difference is argued frequently, but a musical has spoken dialect with musical interruptions, and opera has very little if any spoken lines. If you expect a musical, your not going to get one. If your not a fan of Opera, you're very likely NOT going to like this movie. For an Opera it was good, for a musical it was horrible. I went in expecting a musical, and not having seen the stage production, so I do understand why this is a popular movie. Not a movie for me.

    Les Miserables

Best Movie of the Year and a Must See for all. After the movie was over the first thought that came to me was when am I going to see it Again, preferrably in IMAX format. Hugh Jackman was phenomenal as Jean Val Jean. His voice is incredible and performance is quite moving. Ann Hathaway was very convincing as Fantine and her voice was beautiful. The idea to film the movie as each star sang was inspired because each song took on life of its own. The cinematography was beautiful and gave the movie a different perspective than the stage version. Ignore the negative reviews that Russell Crowe has received because he is great as Javert. The rest of the cast was terrific too. This is a Movie that cannot and should not be missed.

Les Miserables (2012) How can you not love this film?

    by pippop

I have seen the Broadway Show 4 times. I have seen the road show in Philly 3 times. Every version is different and every one in its own right is beautiful and moving and wonderful entertainment. The film version is also unique and wonderful. It is new and vital and stunning in it's production values. Ann Hathaway steals the show. Loved it!

    What a Waste!

    by AD777

I'm a huge fan of Victor Hugo's novel. Loved the musical, but I truly feel that this movie is not doing justice to this amazing story at all. First I don't understand why Russell Crowe is singing, cause he shouldn't. But not only him, most of the cast is horrible to listen to ( The adult Cosette has an annoying voice, so is Marius and few others). The surprise came from Jean-Valjean (Hugh Jackman), Fantine (Anne Hathaway), Eponine (Samantha Barks) et Gavroche (Daniel Huttlestone) which I really enjoyed. I didn't feel transported by the movie, which I believe was badly filmed, too much close ups and wide deforming angles, they kinda made Paris look like London. There are a bunch of details that really annoyed me.
It's a shame that Hollywood had to impose their film stars, cause when you went to see the musical, none knew who the singers/actors were and you still felt the magic happen.
So far, only the 2 first french version of this story remain the best to me.

    Fantastic

The music is fantastic, the vocals are so beautiful, and I basically cried the whole movie through. The acting was fantastic, you definitely should go see Les Miserables.

Miz is not a movie as much as it is an experience

Overlooking all its flaws, I was totally engrossed in the music, story, and characters.

Early on I totally bought into the work as an experience rather than just as a film. As a film it has problems - as an experience it was completely fulfilling and touched me deeply.

I was blown away by Anne and Hugh ... and while Russell's vocal performance has been criticized, he portrayed Javert with a sense of deep unhealed pain in his eyes - something most fail to give this otherwise sinister, dogmatic character.

    Catwoman, Gladiator, and Wolverine!!

    by senrabe

I was very impressed!! I am not a "musical" movie person. However, this was amazing! First, I had no idea Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman could sing so well. Secondly, to be able to act and sing simultaneously and flawlessly...wow! As for Anne Hathaway, she should get an Oscar. She sang beautifully and with such raw emotion. I was totally surprised...I went as a Christmas gift to my wife, but I was the one who was apparently on Santa's "nice" list. Enjoyed the movie immensely!!

This movie is absolutely AWESOME! The cast is fabulous, I was particularly impressed with Eddie Redmayne as Marius. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe were fab as the two male leads additionally Sacha Baron Cohen and Helene Bonham Carter were extremely good as the Thernadiers!

It is definitely a MUST SEE - 5 Stars.

    Les Miserables

    by skqroo

I've seen the Bdwy. prod. 3 times, and played in the pit of a community prod. However, the movie turned into THE MOST moving and easiest to understand the in-depth storyline of all! The grandeur of the set gave more supportive background info necessary to understand the peoples' trials of the time. When you see it live you might read the synopsis before each act, but then when 9 -15 years go by, you might be caught off guard, and confused momentarily. The movie's transitions were more clear. The cinematography was awesome and varied: including pull aways, zoom in's, and action camera's running through the streets as characters. Acting was some of the most superb I can ever remember! Much had to do with the director's choice to have the singing be done LIVE in the filming! NOTHING like it before!! NOT meant for small children: length and dark story! If this doesn't win BEST PICTURE I'll quit caring about the OSCARS! It's EPIC! Russell Crow was weak as Javert (ONLY complaint)

    Sacrificial Love

Mercy and Grace and the giving up of "self" for others. A sorely needed message in today's world. Beautiful, inspiring music! Excellent cast! Go...be inspired!

    Very Much Enjoyed

I think the cast was amazing and the music itself was great. Only negative comment I can make is it was more an opera than a musical with consistent music and singing. Since the songs are largely based around the same three or four songs it could have used a little more spoken to break it up. Overall through it really sits with you and I recommend it.

    Les Miserables

Although the movie theater was full, I had never been in such a quiet, still environment. We were all awestruck. This was not a movie, it was an experience. We laughed. We cried. The beauty of it all. At the ending, the audience gave it a standing ovation!
