    Les Miserables

    by MancGal

This movie is absolutely AWESOME! The cast is fabulous, I was particularly impressed with Eddie Redmayne as Marius. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe were fab as the two male leads additionally Sacha Baron Cohen and Helene Bonham Carter were extremely good as the Thernadiers!

It is definitely a MUST SEE - 5 Stars.

Don't Miss This and You will Be Forever Changed!

I watched the movie of this novel many years ago and it forever changed my views of many things. Watching this adaptation of the musical brought my appreciation to a whole new level. The seamless blending of the music and the acting let you simply ride the roller coaster of emotions that this movie brings into your life. If this movie does not win awards then something is seriously wrong with the world!

    Bring the Kleenex

    by gigg101

An amazing performance by all - the raw emotion that was displayed in this film brought such a credibility to the delivery of the story, it's characters and the inner values of the story. Most striking is the message of Val Jean's steadfastness to remember the grace he received and to pay that grace forward, replacing the bitterness and hate. It isn't easy to watch - times during that period were desperate and they don't sugar coat that - but sometimes we need a dose of reality to make us understand how much we take for granted. We left the theater humbled.

SHOULD BE BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR

I WENT TO THIS MOVIE AFTER SEEING THE STAGE PLAY MANY TIMES, AND THE PBS 25 ANNIVERSARY PRODUCTION SEVERAL MORE TIMES. I WAS PREPARED TO HATE THESE
ACTORS TRYING TO SING...BOY WAS I WRONG. THIS IS A VERY POWERFUL MOVIE, EXTREMELY WELL DONE AND IT JUST BLEW ME AWAY. HAVING COLM WILKENSEN INCLUDED WAS ICING ON THE CAKE. I THOUGHT EDDIE REDMAYNE AS MARIUS WAS PROBABLY AMONG THE BEST MARIUS I HAVE SEEN...I LOVED HIM IN THIS PART. PROBABLY TO ME RUSSELL CROWE WAS THE WEAK LINK, BUT NOT BAD ENOUGH TO MAKE AN ISSUE OF IT. HUGH JACKMAN AND ANNE HATHAWAY WERE SUPERB. I THOUGHT IT A TOUGH UNDERTAKING WHEN YOU THINK OF THE HUNDREDS OF LES MES PRODUCTIONS...BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY A CANDIDATE FOR BEST PICTURE AND ONE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND...JUST TAKE YOUR KLEENEX!

    Les Miserables

    by ricmon

I had seen this play in the theater and I wasn't sure how is would transfer onto film. I was pleasantly surprised. It evoked many emotions. The theater was completely packed, even though it was Christmas morning at 11:00. It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drip. Tears flowed throughout the movie. If I had to pick one word to describe the movie, it would be POWERFUL!

    Les Miserables

Definately a "must go". A most amazing production. Others have complained about the use of actors as singers as opposed to the usual use of singers as actors but, to me, the imperfections in the vocals added a touch of humanity and realism to the film.

    Les Miserables, Bravo!

We went on opening day to avoid any spoilers (either media or neighbor generated).

We thought they did an EXCELLENT job in telling the story. Many new viewers might be thrown off by the on-stage performance. Hugh Jackman & Ann Hathaway can SING! who knew. The supporting cast also did a good job with their parts.
The only vocal portion that wasn't very strong belongs to Russel Crowe. He makes you believe his character is Inspector Javert. That stops as soon as he starts to sing.

If you are a fan of the Stage production, then you must go see this film! Just don't expect much from Mr. Crowe's singing.

    Simply Amazing

    by

I'd unfortunately never had the opportunity to see this on the stage, so admit that I have no comparisons. Coming into it as simply someone who has heard and loved the music of it though I was absolutely struck speechless by this movie and am pondering going to see it again while it's still in the theatres.

    Les Miserables

I have seen the play six times. This met all of my expectations and then some. I am already planning on seeing it again. It well deserved the standing ovation that it was given in the theatre. Bring plenty of tissues

The music is fantastic, the vocals are so beautiful, and I basically cried the whole movie through. The acting was fantastic, you definitely should go see Les Miserables.

    Les Miserables

Amazing!, I have seen broadway production twice and this was great. I know people have been comparing the singing to the broadway show. Really?. This was a movie and not everyone has been on a broadway stage. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. My sister and I were ready to see it again as soon as it was over.

    Catwoman, Gladiator, and Wolverine!!

    by senrabe

I was very impressed!! I am not a "musical" movie person. However, this was amazing! First, I had no idea Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman could sing so well. Secondly, to be able to act and sing simultaneously and flawlessly...wow! As for Anne Hathaway, she should get an Oscar. She sang beautifully and with such raw emotion. I was totally surprised...I went as a Christmas gift to my wife, but I was the one who was apparently on Santa's "nice" list. Enjoyed the movie immensely!!

    Les Miserables

The four people in our group attending were very impressed with the quality of the film - cast, scenery and music. The sound and voices were exceptional. Hugh Jackson was outstanding as were the two main children actors.

    Oh Dear God...

The previews looked like they might actually pull this off - but I almost left the theatre!

Hugh Jackman and Anne both did lovely performances - but an operetta, I did not know it was and the movie SO could have been better served by words instead of sing songy things to move the plot forward.

I know many people loved the stage show, I have friends who went twice - but, as a huge fan of Stephen Sondheim - this musical just has none of the panache.

It stands on 'grandeur' and it's huge following from the stage.

Now, I know why I never saw it in the theatre. Glad I didn't pay $75 to see it!

And, poor Russell Crowe, someone put him out of his misery - what were they thinking?

    Enough said ;-)

    Les Miserables

I have been a fan of theatre and film since I was a kid in the 50's. This is the best film production of a musical that I've seen in almost 60 years, & I've seen many that I've really liked. The direction, acting and vocals are superb technically and artistically. I've seen 3 productions of "Les Mis" on stage in 20 years. This is the 1st time I really understood the story; a very well edited film.
Hugh Jackman delivers not only the best performance I've seen this year, but perhaps the best performance I've ever seen by a film actor. Anne Hathaway is excellent, and her voice is simply beautiful. Russell Crowe gives a performance that is better than I expected after reading reviews, but he is not in the league of Jackman or Hathaway.
Eddie Redmayne was a great surprise. He was familiar to me, then I realized I'd seen him in "My Week With Marilyn," "Elizabeth I" with Helen Mirren, "Elizabeth Golden Age" with Cate Blanchett, and more. Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia) was wonderful.
