    Very Inspirational

First to the Critics: What's up with your reviews? Is there a problem with a film having no blood and gore and being inspirational instead of hateful?

Second to those who haven't yet seen it: I feel that this movie was very well done and is safe for young children. Overall, a very good movie. The characters are believable, and the scenery is spectacular.

    Great Surfing Movie!

    by pedsarq

This is a movie about conquering our fears. Then, and only then, can true greatness be achieved it says--including in the sport of surfing. These so-called maverick waves are an awesome force of nature. But unlike in the movie The Perfect Storm, somehow these 30+ ft waves seems to be real...and that may be the most impressive part about this movie. The rest of it is all over the board with highly charged and emotional dysfunctional family relationships. There are also a couple of tragedies thrown in to stir things up. In fact, there was more than one scene in which some of the audience members were sniffling and tearing up. So, it's a good surfing movie and and a so-so movie when it comes to the storyline. I recommend it with those caveats.

    JUST AMAZING!!!

Jay must have been an incredible young man! My son was born in Santa Cruz in '83, and my ex-husband lives there still, and used to surf there. I called him to tell him he should go see this on the big screen, and he informed me he used to work with Kim's dad and knew her even as a baby. Small world! I suggest any and everyone go see this movie. I'm not an expert reviewer, but suffice it to say that the movie is just totally awesome! Excellent footage, and a good example for young people... Jay is a superb role model. I wish I had know him back then, in some small way. BLESS YOU JAY!!!

    Chase It!

    by cpkenny

A must-see for kids and/or adults on the BIG SCREEN. No swearing, no sex, no violence... just a great story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. It's more than a surfing movie... it's a story about life and love.

Critics are lukewarm with their reviews... think it's a little predictable, a little soft, etc. But audiences are really enjoying it. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll be amazed.

Based on a true story... "When young Jay Moriarty discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson to train him to survive it."

    Maverick

I love movies that are based on true stories. This one was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I was very surprised and cried when 2 of the main characters died. Awesome movie!

    Thrilling, exciting, inspirational

Great movie! The surfing was incredible and the story was heart warming. Along the lines of Soul Surfer but better!

    Chasing Mavericks

Ok movie, will generate some interest in surfing and big waves, but not much. For the surfers who see the movie, they'll like the premis, but its hollywood and no one will believe any of the stars could get in 2 foot swells none the less maverick size waves. Anyone really interested in watching spectacular big wave surfing should get a copy of real surf movies like "Step into Liquid" and watch legendary Laird Hamilton surf Jaws in Maui or Gerry Lopez surf Banzai Pipeline. Bottom line- ok, nothing to write home about- would never re-watch.

    Chasing Maverick's

Great movie! I'm always impressed when actors & actresses learn a sport for a film. There are some great shots of Gerard catching waves! Little ones with no body double =] Imagine what it would be like if they cast an actual surfer in this film? There would be some BAD acting, that's for sure. The scene where the boat nearly flips in Mavericks had me on the edge of my seat. Well done, son!

    Surf's Up

I went to see this movie for Gerard Butler and I got him and much, much more. I know Butler is the big draw and he nailed his role as surfing mentor, Frosty Hessen. The pleasant surprise for me was newcomer Jonny Weston as surfing legend, Jay Moriarity. The photography was nothing short of spectacular and added to the telling of this amazing story of two people who found themselves in each other. And, yes, I laughed and cried and loved. Great movie!
