    Frankenstinkeeweenie

Out of the mind of Tim Burton...Into the minds of my small grandchildren. The good news is Frankenweeie is not scary. The five and six year old were not frightened. The eleven year old never pitched a fit but didn't laugh, cheer or cry either.

The movie is black and white just like Frankenstein. One would hope this would give the movie some kind of nostalgic appeal. Unfortunately...NO! This movie was just a real stinker for me. I asked the kids if they'd see it again. The little ones said yes. I'll rent it for them at Christmas time. Heck maybe I'll rent the other Tim Burton movie.

    Typical Tim Burton fun

    by

Frankenweenie was a great Halloween mood setter. Typical Burton animated characters blended into an awesome homage to the 50s horror genre. This isn't the classic of Nightmare Before Christmas, but it is very entertaining and even a little tear jerking at times. This is NOT a children's film and though it isn't overly graphic, some scenes will be tough on the kids. OK for maybe 13 and up. Must Go for Tim Burton fans, Go for everyone else.

    It's Alive!

    by

Finally a worthy remake! After getting fired by Disney following the release of the 1984 short version of Frankenweenie, Tim Burton gets a re-do with this larger budget, stop motion animation full length feature. If you have not seen the original version created by a pre-Edward Scissorhands Burton, ( I believe it is available as a bonus on a special edition of Nightmare Before Xmas), the story follows young Victor Frankenstein and his best buddy, his dog Sparky (Yes, Sparky. a clever electrical reference and one of many names and lines in this film that pay homage to either science or Frankenstein film and literary history). After Sparky is fatally stuck by a car in the town of New Holland, which of course resembles a black and white version of the Edward Scissorhands community, Victor cleverly applies his new found science lessons in an effort to revive Sparky. We all pretty much know what happens from here yet this film is still worth a view. Enjoy... and then go home & hug your dog

    Frankenweenie

Great movie for both adults and kids. We took our 5 and 3 y.o's and they loved it. I thought the end would scare them a bit, but it didn't even phase them. Very cute references to Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. Teary at some parts, but fun for the whole family.....

    Critics were wrong

This was not a horrible movie, but it wasn't great either. It had some clever moments, but not enough to keep our attention for long. There were some interesting characters, but they never developed so we didn't get very attached to them. (Note: this movie is NOT for little kids. It would have horrified my 9-year-old.)

    Great homage to the classics

Tim Burton lived up to his reputation with this great children's version of a horror movie that pays homage to almost all of the classics from the original Frankenstein to Gremlins.

    Frankenweenie

It's the classic story about a boy and his dog. The fun part is that it is set in the classic horror movie genre. You will laugh and cry. It will entertain children from 10 to 81.

The movie is amazing in its use of puppets in the still shot cinematography as Tim Burton directs another holiday classic.

Burton Is Soooo Played (stick a fork in him he is dun!!!)

He was good 2 times and that is it, barely!!! Pee-wees Big Adventure and Batman (1989) barely... A Nightmare Before Christmas caught on because of Disney magic but that is it! Dude is a dud!!! Beetlejuice was good despite his choice of Mrs. Ryder, but his formula stinks! Just look at the Devito/Penguine Batman... What an uncomftorable sitting! Should have kept him fired!

    Zzzzzz

I do not enjoy black and white. Period. That's why color was invented, to provide punch to the scene, interesting animation, etc. This dog should have stayed dead. Poor dog. Predictable, dull, but then I'm not a Tim Burton fan. Was hoping this would be holiday fun, but it was Tim Burton weird. Without the fun.

It's nice how we can get so attached to our pets. Nice memories.

When you were younger and had a pet, particularly a dog, then you may rekindle past feelings. That's what I experienced. A boy's best friend was his dog, and when the day happened that his dog died, it makes you remember when your pet died too. Through what you already know from Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein," happens, you want to see and hear that familiar bark again. It's funny how animals can make us feel. Lastly, I saw it in 3D - however, not surprising, 2D is satisfactory enough.

    Low on Laughs

    by gabyt

Being a Nightmare Before Christmas fan, I was hoping to find more of the same, but this black and white film was more of a love letter to monster movies of yesteryear (and a beautifully done one at that), but it was pretty forgettable as far as kid entertainment goes. Usually, my kids leave the theater talking about the best parts of a film over and over, but this one left them nothing but one funny scene to remember. I was expecting great things, but like many family movies as of late, I found this one appealing more to adults than to kids.

    Frakenweenie Review

Movie had outstanding cinematography, it was phenomenal!! A typical Disney movie; predictable in plot. As an adult, I do enjoy Disney movies; however, 30 minutes in and I was asleep. Film definitely for the very, very young.

slow story line, black and white--not a hit for 4 and 6yr old boys

Just a very average movie. Boys were disappointed. Did not keep their attention. Not a terrbile movie, but would not recommend for younger viewers. As an adult, I was bored as well.
