    Argo

I loved Ben in this movie, he did an awesome job staring and directing. I hope that it shows up on the Oscars, I would vote.

    True to the Times

Excellent movie. Lots to think about. Well cast and acted. Good direction, tying the "story" to the reality. History is more fascinating than fiction. Good job, Mr. Affleck!

    Argo

    by bgsi

Well told (almost) true story of hostage rescue with incredible suspense. The early rhetoric of explaining the history of US-Iran relations was, unfortunately, not accurate--Hollywood PC a la George Clooney. Otherwise it kept the essence of the rescue. Well acted and beautifully directed. Audience actually applauded.

Ben did a great job both acting and working on the film. I was at the edge of my seat and I knew the ending!! when you go, stay for the credits, the end includes Pres Carter speaking about the mission which was recently unclassified.

    A "do not miss" movie

    by Marbild

I remember when this was in the news and knew that there must have been some extreme behind the scenes maneuvers on the part of this our government. Watching how these actions played out was riveting. Ben Affleck and Bryon Cranston were especially effective in their roles. However, the entire cast gave flawless performances. I was completely drawn into this movie. The tensions were palpable. Those movies which rely on unrelenting physical action via shootings, car chases and fights pale in comparison to this kind of tension as a result of intense desperation. One of the movies that I will watch again. It should become a movie classic.

    Argo

Considering Clooney's involvement, I was worried the movie would have a liberal message. There was a rehabilitation of Jimmy Carter as the credits were rolling, but that was it. A splendid period piece. Suspenseful, well-acted and a believable script. Ben Affleck was actually good in the lead role, but I enjoyed the supporting cast's work even more.

    nail-biter Argo

I could have happily done without the political opinions and slanted anti American "history lesson" of the role America and Great Britain took in the gov't of the Shah that clearly placed sympathy with the savage monsters that violently took over Iran in 1979 and at the end sought to elevate Carter in some way rather than lumping him in with those same policies. After all it WAS Carter who declared The Shah our friend and allowed him asylum!
But the rest of the movie between those book ends seem to do a good job dropping the politics and although I knew the ending, I found myself gripping my fingers, my heart pounding the entire time and literally biting my nails. I NEVER let a movie take over my emotions like that. This is a first. I was 9 when the US Embassy was taken over in Iran. I remember the yellow ribbons everywhere. I don't remember this story being told after the declassification under Clinton. Now I feel compelled to read more about this mission.
    This movie was terrific!

Finally a good Film for 2012!

By far my best film seen this year. Story is great based on a true story about the Iran hostage crisis around 1980. It's entertaining on many levels and a good watch for most ages. Thrilling from start to end with a perfect blend of comedy in some parts.

Entertaining even if slightly embellished account of the escape from Iran.

Well-executed, thrilling and with well placed touches of humor. It is "based on" actual events but with a liberal sprinkling of artistic license especially in the climax.

    ARGO

    by JoeLisa

Fascinating movie. Affleck certainly got it right with this movie. Maybe a little "hollywoodish" at times but it is a movie. The fact that this is a true story makes it even that much better. Definitely a "must see".

    Argo - fantastic!

Great film! An action packed spy thriller of the highest order, and it's a true story. Wow! Would have been a 10 but for the absurd plug to feckless Jimmy Carter, who takes credit for Ronald Reagan's securing of our hostages' return. Go see it anyway.

    A MUST SEE MOVIE!

Edge of the seat suspense throughout the entire movie...amazing attention to detail and reality. Captured the emotion and rage of the period in this historical view of this most daring rescue. Affleck was awesome, the entire cast was amazing...don't miss this movie!

    Argo

Went to see this "Based on a true event" movie. While the story line was very action packed and the events true, I have to take with a "grain of salt" how much Hollywood depicted such events to get the viewers interested. If you go for the entertainment, it's a must. If you go for the true events, read the book, google the information, then go to the movie.

Skip the dinner party and head to this movie!

Based on a true story. Some of the loveliest words you?ll read at the beginning of a movie. Ben Affleck has pulled back the curtain to some of the darkest times in our US history to shed a little light on how in 1979 the US government got our American diplomats out of Iran during the hostage crisis that lasted 444 days. This movie is awesome. You?ll be leaning out of your chair almost the entire time.

Following the career highs and the lows of Ben Affleck has been a pendulum to say the least. He now finds himself in the sweet spot of his life and career, the maturity that all men reach at a certain time in their life where one can look forward and backwards and know how he wants to be remembered.

Ben Affleck is cruising in the right direction. Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and now Argo. Every movie he directs keeps getting better and better. A tip of the cap to the man who is cognitively honing his craft. Looking forward to his next endeavor.

From the start, this film is a blast! Carefully crafted and gripping. Based on true story about six people who in midst of the Iranian Revolt back in '79, hideout in Canadian embassy until they get rescued by a CIA agent. Not gonna tell you the whole story, but it?s fantastic! Kudos to Ben Affleck who was director and lead actor. Many studios turned down this film. I bet they?re kicking themselves! Go see it!
