    Excellent

Great casting, great acting, great movie. I imagine it has a greater impact on viewers who remember the Iranian revolution (like me), but hope others will see it, too.

    Really, an excellent film.

On the edge of my seat the entire time

This one was good! Wasn't quite expecting that from the trailer...Had never heard of the actual Argo mission. Acting was great...settings were amazing...and I was nervous the ENTIRE time! The bit of comedy thrown in was great too! Made it fun!

STILL THRILLING EVEN THOUGH YOU KNOW THE OUTCOME

I thought the movie was well done. Even though I knew the outcome it was a definite nail-biter. All of the actors, with the exception of Affleck, did a great job capturing their real life counterparts. Although I am not a fan of Affleck as an actor, I will admit it was probably his best role to date. That being said, I was disappointed that they did not cast a Hispanic actor to portray Menendez. But I think every adult should see this movie. It is an important lesson in why the US should never get involved in the politics of other nations.

    ARGO

    by mainc

Excellent movie...even knowing the ending, you will be on the edge of your seat.
I was not prepared for the humor involved which was a great diversion...but then Alan Aarkin is a given! He was perfect.
Four of us went and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

    Argo You Go Me Go

    by Misty60

Fast paced, edge of your seat movie. Ben Affleck does as magnificent job as Tony Mendez. Alan Arkin, John Goodman and the rest of the cast reminded us of that terrible time in Iran with total clarity.

    Must See!

    by

Ben Affleck is back in Argo, and what a return! Based on a true story, Ben must rescue 6 americans from Iran after the US embassy has been taken over. So he comes up with a plan to act as a film crew to get them out of the country. Everyone, from the Iranians trying to capture these 6 people, to Ben, to the actors in the CIA, everyone was phenomenal. You could feel the stress as the 6 americans hide in the Canadian embassy, hiding for their lives. The scenery is amazing, whether its in the desert of Iran, or the city. The end is very satisfying, yet keeps you guessing till the last second. At the end, it shows the actual photos of the real people, compared to the ones in the movie. I liked how they incorporated the actual history into the movie, and cool that the character Ben plays resides in my home state of Maryland. Some of the material is graphic, public hangings, close range shooting executions, etc. If you love thrillers, suspense, based on actual events, youll love ARGO!

    Exceeds press hype!

I expected this to be good as I really think Affleck has come a long way. Always was a great actor, but as Director, amazing! The Press Hyped th emovie so much, fortunately, it exceeded all expectations. The audience clapped at the end of the movie! Really, really good.

    Story well-told

    by alann9

This story was so downplayed at the time, the true story suppressed, that, as one who remembers that time, it seemed like just a small detail: In the confusion, the Canadians shipped some American Consulate officials out of Iran. That sort of thing. The truth was far more hair-raising -- a story of amazing heroism and courage. The acting was universally outstanding. Affleck was convincing in the anchor role of the agent running the operation. Ironically, or obviously, maybe, some of the strongest (and funniest) moments were with Affleck, John Goodman, and Alan Arkin as hardened Hollywood operators. They know this world and the writing for those scenes was the fullest and sharpest and most instantly-believable of the movie. The main focus of the story was the trapped Americans and the new Iranian government, which was terrifyingly threatening. The propaganda in front and at the end notwithstanding, it was an excellent movie.

    Perfect Balance

    by

Often movies these days sway to an extreme; too cheesy, too dramatic, too predictable. The acting in this movie is a good balance of it all. Kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time!

    A step back in time...

Watching on the screen, bits of history being replayed from that time period was a walk down memory lane. I remember it too well. Great movie. well done.

    nail-biter Argo

I could have happily done without the political opinions and slanted anti American "history lesson" of the role America and Great Britain took in the gov't of the Shah that clearly placed sympathy with the savage monsters that violently took over Iran in 1979 and at the end sought to elevate Carter in some way rather than lumping him in with those same policies. After all it WAS Carter who declared The Shah our friend and allowed him asylum!
But the rest of the movie between those book ends seem to do a good job dropping the politics and although I knew the ending, I found myself gripping my fingers, my heart pounding the entire time and literally biting my nails. I NEVER let a movie take over my emotions like that. This is a first. I was 9 when the US Embassy was taken over in Iran. I remember the yellow ribbons everywhere. I don't remember this story being told after the declassification under Clinton. Now I feel compelled to read more about this mission.
    This movie was terrific!

Well done and timely as well

My wife and I enjoyed Argo very much. Even though you know the end if you're old enough, the story was well presented with plenty of suspense and tension. The acting was first rate and reminds us once again that most of our problems overseas, even to this day, were created by us in the first place for supporting brutal dictators because socialism or communism scares us more even if it is the choice of those people.

    Gripping!

Even knowing the outcome, this movie kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. What a great story and how apropos given the current state of affairs in the region.
