    ARGO

Movie is a reminder that we don't always make the best decisions when aligning with foreign powers and it often comes back to bite us. Having lived thru the Iran hostage crisis I was surprised that the movie was so gripping and exciting. I got nervous and yet I knew the outcome. Affleck did a terrific job, direction was excellent, recreating the time and event were very authentic. See this movie.

    Finally a good movie

Three cheers for the little Good Will Hunting boy...he's back with a
great movie. Not an easy feat to star in and direct but he does a boffo job. In the vein of Apollo 13 where you already know the ending, this film delivers by keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Also a superb cast adds to it all and great fun watching John Goodman and the incomparable Alan Arkin do what they do best.

Not sure if those under 30 will appreciate the story and our music
( give me Led Zeppelin any day) but those of us old enough to remember will not only love it but you will undoubtedly say
"I had no idea that's how they (hostages) got out of Iran." Hey Hollywood, if you start bank rolling more movies like this I will gladly part with my hard earned dollars to see them.

While I detested the subject matter, i.e. Iranian treatment of and attitude toward Americans which exists to this day, the film was very compelling and full of suspense.

The acting, as well as the "period" scenes, costumes and props, were very good. Ben Affleck contines to mature as an actor and director and he gave a strong performance.

    It's a must see!

    by

Even if I knew the story, I was watching the movie with excitement. It's dramatic and funny, so well done I bow before Mr. Affleck. Great directing, great script, smart cliffhanger moments. It's just brilliant!

    An Unexpected Reaction

I went to this movie, fully expecting to endure it because my husband wanted to see it; however, the story, well played and directed, held my attention from beginning to end. ARGO contains a story that draws the audience in and involves them in the action.WELL DONE!

    Ben redeems himself well!

    by

I enjoyed this movie immensely for 2 reasons. First, I learned something I didn't already know about our role in the Iranian hostage crisis. Unfortunately, what I learned makes me very ashamed at our role in hiring a violent dictator for a country not belonging to us, all for the sake of cheaper oil. Still, it is good to see story we didn't see earlier. Also, Ben Affleck impressed me with his ability to bring to us a story we need to know, in an entertaining way. I would much more likely pay to see movies like this where I can actually go away with more knowledge. The film aptly conveyed the tension and emotion of the Iranian people. I couldn't understand why they were so angry until the movie unfolded. After the movie, I was propelled to google American history. The market scene will leave you breathless. I applaud Ben's acting, directing, and foresight. Do it again Ben!

    true to life suspense

Excellent rendition of the true to life happenings during the 1979-1980 Iran hostage situation. Ben Affleck directed it and did a superb job. I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire movie. It was period appropriate and very realistic.
It is one of the better written plot movies I've seen in a while. It wasn't a whole lot of big bangs and crazy action that riddle the movies now. This one had a concrete story line with some realistic action that will keep you on your seat. It's worth seeing.

    A history I was forgetting

    by luza97

I liked the approach that they did to this part of our history, 1979, that concerned in that time to everyone of us, the part everyone inmediatly knew about the Americans kept hostages, and this part no so often commented: the six Americans that took refuge in the Canadian Ambassy, how they lived those days . In some way this movie honored not only the help of one nation to another but a person that put his live in risk for others. I loved the way they treated the violence in that environment without make it excesive, like some times happen in other movies. And also I laugh some. Sadly we were only four people watching the screen, maybe because it was released last year, maybe because it was in a mall that has not to much advertisement of its reopening, I am sure it was not the movie. If you have not watch this movie, go now or wait for the DVD, but don't miss it. I am also going to buy the DVD once it is release. Kuddos to DIrectors Affleck and Clooney. Stayed until last letter!!

    So slow I nodded off!

    by jnk9

While it was meant to remind us of a piece of our history I really think it could have featured less of the explosion parts and more of the human parts. The airport scenes were well done....even I was holding my breath a time or two

Riveting!!! A must see! My heart was pounding and I could barely breathe until I knew everyone was safe. Ben Affleck was amazing. His character was a man of few words but he said so much with his eyes and expressions! That is acting--an unforgetable performance that remains with you long after the movie credits stop rolling.

EXCELLENT LESSON THAT HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF ....
BENGHAZI COME TO MIND ; IE , IN 5 OR 10 YEARS TIME A MOVIE WILL BE MADE TO
DEMONSTRATE THAT OBAMA AND HIS INNER CIRCLE DID IN FACT PERVERT , DISTORTE AND TWIST THE TRUTH .
TO WIN THE ELECTION AND OR THAT HE IS A FOOL BELONGING TO THE SCHOOL
THAT ISLAM EXTREMISM DOESN'T EXIST .

    Fantastic

Not only is the TRUE story incredible, but the film is an edge of your seat thrill ride anchored by solid performances from Affleck, John Goodman and Alan Arkin among many notable others. Definitely will be an Oscar contender but not one of the boring ones...

    Thriller based on true story...

This is based on a true story with creative license for a thriller movie. Great acting in leading and supporting roles. I would take teenagers but not younger to this one.

Fast moving, suspenseful even though as a true story you know how it will come out.

This is one of the tightest movies I have seen in a long time, no wasted time or dialog and the story moves quickly.

You can feel the tension and the vicious bad guys, but it is very realistic.

The ending reunion with the ex-wife was too schmaltzy.

Overall, one of the top flicks around, and stick around for the end, when the actors are shown in juxtaposition to the real life characters, a nice touch just like the Schindler's List movie.

Aflec should be nominated for an Academny Award for his acting and directing.

I read Mendez's book and although it was not a literary masterpiece, it did cause me to see the movie. The movie, though not full of todays action, was extremely suspencefull and very enjoyable.
