    Argo

Another great Oscar contender! This movie really affected me personally because I remember when it occured and following the news reports on television. The acting was superb and the details uncanny. Ben Affleck really did his research and it showed!!! I also read Ken Follet's book On Wings of Eagles concerning the Iranian revolution and the American hostages during President Carter's time in office. This was a spectacular film and I would recommend it to everyone! Please see it in the theater, if possible. I WILL add this to my collection of DVDs when it comes out! Extremely well made!!!!

    Amazing film

This is one of those awe-inspiring films that really hits home.

Proud to be an American. Damn right. Ben Affleck is not only a great performer, but he is also establishing himself as one of the better filmakers in hollywood as well ala Clint Eastwood, who is amazing not only in front of the camera, but behind it as well. His original encore, The Town, was an amazing film, but this one really establishes him as one of the better filmmakers in hollywood.

An underlying cast of Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston and Victor Garber really hit the spot. I think this film will definitely be nominated for some big time awards, including best picture. Amazing cinematography, screenplay and direction.

    ARGO

I would encourage my friends to see this movie. It depicts what radical Muslims will do and how they treat people. It's not Oscar material but still a very good movie.

I really liked the movie. It's tense, exciting, and lots of drama. It really demonstrates what went on during that time period. My only objection is the language. I understand the need for some of it if you are going to portray what the catch phrase was between these people. But the rest of it didn't add anything to the movie. It would stop me from taking my children to this movie that I think they would benefit from, for a historical perspective. It seems to be a trend, movies have to have an R rating and that means some very foul language. As I said, it adds nothing to the movie. You don't have to live in the gutter, to know it exists.

A Little Docudrama, a Lot of Hollywood

    by

Overrated. I get Hollywood has to embellish, but to the point of eye-rolling incredulity? "Suspension of Disbelief" is usually reserved for fantasy genres, but I had to invoke it a few times for cliches throughout this film: the CIA agent with drinking/family problems; the embassy employee/'cameraman" looking through the wrong side of a lens; the Revolutionary Guard chasing a Jumbo Jet down the runway. The effective but itself cliche back and forth editing between the pursuers and escapees pulled me along, but the Keystone Cops chase and "just-in-the-nick-of-time" runway escape is unpalatable. To be sure, editing was the strong suit of the movie, notably when old footage is spliced with new to lend authenticity. The fictional and stereotypical Hollywood producer played by Alan Arkin would have been problematic were it not for his fine performance. Argo works because it is based on a dramatic passage of American History and despite, ironically, the "best" efforts of Hollywood.

    Fantastic!

    by

This film sucks you in and is suspenseful, keeping you on the edge of your seat even though you know what happens. Knowing that it is based on true events makes it that much more riviting to watch. I can't imagine what it would have been like to be one of those people hiding for their lives not knowing if they would be found out and killed and then having to put their faith in one person with a crazy scheme to sneak them out of an extremely hostile country. This movie is for anyone who is interested in history or remembers watching the news on this event while it was happening. I was not alive quite yet during this period of time and only knew what I remembered from history books (which wasn't much, truth be told). I feel like this movie gave me a greater understanding of events involving Iran in the late 70's early 80's and it was way more interesting then any boring paragraph in a history book.

A brilliant directorial turn for Ben Affleck. An edge of your seat thriller with a plot so convolutedly absurd it would be laughable...were it not based on actual historical fact. Alan Arkin is brilliant in a supporting role that adds comic relief to the incredibly taut suspense. There are many reasons this film did so well at the Golden Globes, with Best Drama and Best Director honors. A genuine must see picture!

If you can stand the tension, even knowing the outcome, you'll be overwhelmed by the quality of the film ? the entire production from casting to dialogue to filming. An Academy nominee for sure.

Best movie of the year--by far

I can't remember so enjoying a movie recently. Hurt Locker, maybe (but that lacked the humor), and I haven't felt chills like this since China Syndrome. Affleck is terrific, as actor and director. Everyone else, small though their roles may be, step up to make this a must see, ore rather "the" must see movie.

I see an Oscar in this film's future!

    by shawn2b

Argo pulls you in immediately with a quick synopsis of Iranian history and U.S./Iran relations up to the Iran Hostage Crisis. With the history set we see the unfolding of an AMAZING story of intrigue, societal outrage, and politics. An engaging combination of clandestine operations, political realities and Hollywood glitter provide for a movie that kept me riveted to my seat and entertained. The movie felt very authentic to the period. I felt transported to the late 1970s, participating in the events and sensing the mood at the time.

Kudos to Ben Affleck and the entire cast for providing characters who are real and engaging; a true ensemble cast where all the character shined but let the story speak for itself. I can see Ben Affleck garnering some Oscar nods for Directing, Best Picture, and Best Actor and Chris Terro for Screenwriting. Hair, make-up, costumes and everything about this film were spot on perfect!

GO SEE THIS MOVIE! Stay for the credits.

The audience in the showing I attended was definitely an older crowd - no one born after 1975 would remember the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-1981, and probably not interested. Well done from start to finish, the best re-enactment of an historical event that I've seen. I would urge everyone from high school age up to see this film, while entertaining also provided fantastic historical background for the serious issues challenging the world today.

I loved it, everyone should go see this movie. This is the best acting from Ben Afflect I have ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat and my eyes were teary at the end of the film. Very well made and it was even funny at times. Alan Arkin and the rest of the cast was excellent. I see movies quite a lot this was definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen.

    Argo

Excellent story. I wish they'd made more of the fact that it was based on an actual event. It was blessedly free of gratuitous violence and wild, extended, unfollowable chase sequences. I was disappointed by the amount of cigarette smoking that went on. I realize that this was probably a reasonably accurate depiction of the amount of smoking that went on back then, but what did it add to the actual story line. After all, the smoking wasn't an integral part of the story the way the ubiquitous use of pushbutton phones rather than smart phones was. Had smart phones been in use, the escape would never have happened -- unless modern shredders had sliced and diced things making it virtually impossible to recreate things from scraps in which case, there'd have been no reason to use smart phones
