    Oscar written all over it!

This perfect film is a cross between Wag The Dog and All The President's Men -- only better. It's funny, nerve wracking, soul-fulfilling. And important. Acting on all fronts was terrific. Dialog at times was celestial. Where can you see a movie that makes you laugh out loud at the searing humor between two veteran actors (Goodman, Arkin), bite your nails feeling the anxiety, fear and ambivalence of the 6 hideaways, cheer for the guts and gumption of a good guy in the CIA, and see it all in the context of world political theater? It's beginning to dawn on me who the real brain was behind Good Will Hunting. Ben Affleck has done a stunning job of directing and acting in this riveting well written film. Yes, Ben is not Mr. Personality, but he is who he is and does a superb job channeling characters with courage and conviction. Bully for him and lucky for us. And what was that awful film he did with JLo? I don't remember, and chances are you don't either.

Ben Affleck hits it out of the park again!

After "Good Will Hunting", who wasn't a fan of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon?? Brilliant writing and acting for first timers. As time went on though, Ben seemingly got drawn in by big blockbuster movies that didn't pan out so well (Pearl Harbor and Armageddon). And let's not mention "Gigli" (with former girlfriend J. Lo).

But then came "The Town".....and he was back! And I'm so thrilled to see him continuing to write, direct and produce smart, interesting films that really draw you in and make you think. The moment the film opens (if you're 46ish and up) you start thinking about that time in our history that had our entire nation holding it's breath. Both my husband and I were floored when they showed the real people at the end and what an incredible job he did of choosing the actors to portray them.

Welcome back Ben - audiences love you (at least we do) - please continue to challenge us and entertain us with your thoughtful intensity and well-placed humor.

    Wow!

This movie should be show in film school as a lesson in how to take a compelling true story and make it a nail biter even though history tells us how the story really ends.

    Wow!

Good story, characters, & overall movie

    by

Based on a true story, the film was well done and re-created with many shots mimicking the true events. Plot was well thought out and portrayed. edge of your seat up until the end.

    Argo brings it ll back.

The agony of the hostages all came back viewing this movie. Its a wonder this happened since Carter was so wimpy. Ben Afleck deserves awards, I thought this movie captured the essence of the situatin and the time.

    Argo

I saw it last night and think it is the best movie I have seen this year. Has the right combination of suspense and the wonderful comic performances of Goodman and Arkin. And, even though I know how it ends, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. There wasn't a bad performance in the group. And, I expect Ben Affleck to win a nomination for Best Director, if not Best Actor, with his wonderfully understated performance
I most definitely don't think this is a picture for kids!

The movie you didn't know you wanted to see.

Saw Argo last night. I had read a couple of reviews that Affleck got the elements right in this political docudrama. To simply agree with the previous statement, would be an injustice of the worst kind. Affleck and is cast and crew knocked this one out of the park! From the historically mostly over-looked true story subject to the technical filming techniques; Affleck has gone out of his way to deliver a movie worth spending money to see. As for the plot and level of suspense; you will be grabbing the armrest of you chair in suspense - even if you know how the historical situation came to an end.

To sum it up: I see many movies a month. This is the first movie I have seen in many years that is worthy of taking my time to sit-down and right a review , let alone a recommendation for.

Go see this movie! you won't be disappointed.

If you lived through it or don't know the history at all, to miss quote the catchphrase in the film: "argo see it!"

I wasn't anxious to see ARGO despite the highly praised (rightfully so it turned out) direction and performance by Ben Affleck and the Oscar Nominated turn from Alan Arkin. The well publicized plot of a "fake movie" being produced to cover another clandestine operation sounded too "been there, done that" to be of interest. At the same time, I'm very glad we did go. As rumored, Affleck's tense direction is remarkably sure handed - even more impressive than his understated performance - and even better, his film's script presents the background of the Iranian Hostage Crisis which toppled the Carter Administration and served as pretext for so much of our present Near Eastern policy muddle more fairly than I have ever seen. When the DVD is out, I'm almost certainly going to use parts of it for a "20th Century History in Popular Entertainment course I teach. When you do go, STAY for the credits, there's a statement from President Carter which caps the film perfectly. VERY good job by all.

    Sounds of Silence

Two hours went by pretty fast and the audience was so quiet! Interesting story line and a happy ending always help the likeability of a film. Still have doubts about Ben Affleck as an actor --

Great Action Flick (even though much of the action didn't happen)

One of those rare films where you know how the story ends, but are still on the edge of your seat during the twists and turns on the way to that end. Completely held my attention. And one of the few films lately where the audience applauded at the end. Was there"great" acting? Ben Affleck was terrific (one of his best performances), but no other real standout performances. But this is an action flick. Go see and enjoy. And if you don't have shivers near the end of the movie, well, don't worry, you will.

AR - GO See the movie!!!

This was as and intense finger biter that placed you in the time period and didn't let you out. It was factual and exciting, not always an easy thing to pull off. Aflec did an amazing job of NOT being Ben Aflec. He is reserved in his approach and transforms himself into this character. It is an amazing production from the image to the performances. This is a must see to me for entertainment and history!

    Worthwhile

Good movie, with the obligatory laughs and chase scenes. Even though there is no sex in the movie, it is for adults only - there is nothing in this film for smaller kids.
The plot held my attention for the full span of the movie. However, it was tough to separate raw fact from embellishment, but isn't that always the case with Hollywood?
The screenwriters seemed to exaggerate, and stereotype in places, to more clearly draw the "appropriate" portraits.
The movie did inform me of some aspects of the situation that I hadn't known previously, but I suspect that there are lots of dimensions and major participants that were minimized, or left out. This is probably because it focused primarily on the main people involved, and not the event in the broader context.
All in all, a much better than average film, addressing a major event in world history.

    Argo

Beautifully done. We lived through this era. Americans were much calmer about the dangers of the Middle East because we hadn't been attacked on our soil. So, the reaction wasn't panic or war. We were angry and it was used for political fodder to bring down Carter.

Affleck did a great job capturing the times, the look and the feel of a real crisis being handled by professionals. It should be a must see for Americans because it explains why the Iranians hate us and also shows the beginning of the Fundamentalist stranglehold on the Iranian people.

That said, it is a quiet and somber film with no special effects, lots of good acting and intelligent directing. It is real life.

Timely, Smart, Edge of your Seat

    by

Ben Affleck's film wowed us! We were at the edge of our seats from beginning to end, watching recent history unfold with sure-handed direction, fabulous acting, incredible attention to detail, and best of all an intelligent, big-hearted and honest telling of a complicated true story. Wow! I was still shaking when we left the theater and can't wait to see it again.

    ARGO

A brilliant directorial turn for Ben Affleck. An edge of your seat thriller with a plot so convolutedly absurd it would be laughable...were it not based on actual historical fact. Alan Arkin is brilliant in a supporting role that adds comic relief to the incredibly taut suspense. There are many reasons this film did so well at the Golden Globes, with Best Drama and Best Director honors. A genuine must see picture!
