    Don't miss this one!

This movie is great for just about any type of movie you are looking for. It is touching, funny, motivating, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I literally was biting my nails during it. What is exceptionally great about this movie is that it tells such a great story from our history and they use clips of real life news reports from 1979/1980. I was in a packed full theater and, with the exception of a handful of people, everyone sat not making a move as the credits started rolling and they showed pictures from the actual events. President Carter then says words about this event and it is extremely moving. This is one film that you do not want to miss and one that is probably best seen in a theater and not waiting for the DVD.

    Fun movie

Interesting story that I had not heard of, and one that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Definitely stay through the first few minutes of the credits.

    Argo

Good entertainment, well worth it. The storyline is well set out, good direction. Yes, despite knowing how it ultimately turned out in real life, it was good to see the story from the "inside". We need more films like this. Well done Ben Affleck and George Clooney!

    No PC inaction here!

True story -- with seemingly accurate scenarios (almost all suspenseful). We need more non-politically correct heroes such as the protagonist in this important story. He saw what was right to do --and did it despite contrary views in the federal government's hierarchy

    ARGO

    by camsf1

It was awesome! The acting was wonderful, and the tension created was unrelenting. I took me to the time and place--and I knew what the outcome was! So good.

    A "do not miss" movie

    by Marbild

I remember when this was in the news and knew that there must have been some extreme behind the scenes maneuvers on the part of this our government. Watching how these actions played out was riveting. Ben Affleck and Bryon Cranston were especially effective in their roles. However, the entire cast gave flawless performances. I was completely drawn into this movie. The tensions were palpable. Those movies which rely on unrelenting physical action via shootings, car chases and fights pale in comparison to this kind of tension as a result of intense desperation. One of the movies that I will watch again. It should become a movie classic.

    Great film -- exciting, thoughtful

    by dtmf

Great plot, acting; totally convincing (esp. for those of us who actually REMEMBER the events of the early 1980s!). It's a pity that the moviet, as accurate as it is, ends up reproducing negative stereotypes of "brutish Muslim fanatics." Thousands of Iranians here and in Iran opposed this reign of terror, and many more since. Better to view what happened as typical of any revolution -- bloody, fanatical, and a reign of terror in the beginning. But God help the people who get caught in the middle, and that's what this movie is about.

    Argo

Well told (almost) true story of hostage rescue with incredible suspense. The early rhetoric of explaining the history of US-Iran relations was, unfortunately, not accurate--Hollywood PC a la George Clooney. Otherwise it kept the essence of the rescue. Well acted and beautifully directed. Audience actually applauded.

Best Film I've Seen in a While!

Slightly annoyed that Affleck couldn't get over himself and actually cast a Latino in the lead role (since, well, Mendez WAS Latino) (and as if Hollywood can't afford to cast more actors of color in major films). But, that said, really well done movie overall and Affleck played the role well. Was entertained the whole time.

    Afflecktation

    by iabrams

Ok, so they threw in a car chase, made up a runway drama, and invented some people in government. That's Hollywood. But when my wife and I got home and Wikipedia'd this film we felt slimed by Affleck. There is a kind of sickening immorality in the way the movie twists history, adding in totally unnecessary lies about the British, New Zealand, and Canadian roles in this escapade. So, it's not a bad movie, but you are being played if you see it. Not just entertained.

Good Movie but I think LIncoln is better

Went to see ARGO because it won best picture at the Oscars. Acting by the 6 embassy staff members who escaped was not great. A lot of their facial expression seemed contrived and their fear dishonest. Story was good but somewhat overly embellished to add too much drama.

Personally, I think Lincoln has much better acting from all the characters and was much more compelling. Lincoln should have got best picture in my mind.

Maybe you have to have action, guns and violence to win best picture these days. Maybe fantastic acting and set design is not enough.

Definitely a GO but not a must go.

    First rate excitement

The building of excitement and suspense is the best I have seen in recent years. Even knowing the outcome you are on the edge of your seat. Nothing else to say except that if you like suspense this is a must see movie.

    Gripping story well told

We loved Argo, excellent directing, acting, cinematography, screenplay with just the right balance of tension and humor, music, extras, the works. Location shots in Turkey, substituting for Baghdad, were gripping. Where did they get all of those angry people??? The story introduction reminds us why we are so hated in the Middle East, particularly in Iran where we helped topple a democratically elected government we did not like and put a monarch in power who turned out to be a disaster. Then, we rescued him so that the Iranians could not try him for his criimes against his people. This movie shows us just some of the results of that decision.
Apart from the politics, though, this is an excellent movie and Ben Affleck is to be commended for both the directing and his own acting. I would be surprised not to see many nominations for Academy Awards.
