    Argo

    by mimiphm

A good movie but hardly worth the raves I've been hearing. Affleck did a fine directing job - of everyone else. He had one expression himself throughout, except for a slight attempt at a smile at the very end. It made scenes that focused on him rather boring.
The rest of the film was more interesting. The dialog involving the producer and make-up artist in Hollywood was hilarious. The tension during the market scene was well done, as were the beginning sequences and others in the Canadian embassy. The airport scenes were a bit trite but still held my attention.

I don't like Ben Affleck, but I have to say he did a good job in this movie. Lots of drama, tense, well made.....should see it for sure.

    I remember this ...

    by NWCL123

Is this a Hollywood version of what really happened? Uh, Yes. Ben Affleck knows what is needed to make people come to see a movie. Is it important to see? Also, very much Yes. I remember being 9 or 10 when this happened. it was a big and serious event. It was great to be able to go see the movie and know that the base was factual and you get some history.

I would definitely recommend this. Go wanting to be educated and moved. Don't go to be entertained, it isn't that type of a movie. It does entertain (thanks to the Hollywood version), but that isn't why you should go.

    Argo

Argo was a great movie to refresh or introduce persons to some of the late 70's history. This movie was excellent start to finish. Acting and graphics were very good and held my interest throughout. Need more of these types of movies in the future.

    Great history lesson

Ben Affleck did a great job bringing history to life in an enjoyable, entertaining way. This is a movie you could bring teenagers to learn about the complexities of the history of the US and Iran. It kept a great pace from start to finish. All around great movie and Oscar contender.

    well done fact-based thriller.

    by SandP

Another very good acting/directing performance by Ben Affleck. Very timely given recent events in Libya and Egypt. While the movie could probably benefit from editing about 10 minutes out of the middle, Affleck does an excellent job of building up the tension culminating in an exciting last 10-15 minutes (notwithstanding that the ending is not a surprise). Great performances from the whole cast, with John Goodman, Alan Arkin and Brian Cranston making the most of their limited screen time.
The film does an excellent and fairly meticulous job of recreating the late 70s in the costumes, scenery, etc.

    Excellent Film!

Argo is the story of how U.S. and Canadian governments worked together to get six American diplomats out of Iran during the Iran Embassy Hostage of 1979-81. Ben Affleck's moving film was entertaining as well as an insightful look in how this country responded to this momentus occasion. The acting was excellent and the story was riveting.

    Excellent!!!

I am constantly surprised at Ben Affleck's talent. This movie was very, very well made and that actors performed excellently. I didn't realize that I was shaking with suspense at the climax of this movie. It had a good amount of humor for comedic relief and seriously well thought through and well written. Bravo to the writers, producers, actors and the rest of the staff that made this movie truly a success!

    Riveting

I think Ben Affleck is becoming a good director in addition to his acting skills because this movie left me on the edge of my seat throughout. Definitely worth seeing.

    Argo

A very serious topic made enjoyable with very good acting, intelligent humor, and the triumphs and fears of the human experience. Alan Arking stole the show.

    Arr Go F#$@Urself

A really well written, well directed, well acted film. Tension was palpable, camera work was Oscar material. Kudos to Afflack, he's back! He and Clooney need to tell more stories like this one (Sudan) and keep Cranston and Arkin in play.

    argo

very well directed. superb job of acting and suspense. as everyone knows, this was a true story, from many years ago. if you remember the times back then, you already know the outcome. however, that being said, ben affleck directed the film, which brought intrigue, suspense, and had a very good soundtrack to it. a must see film of this year.

    Awesome and intense

Did not know that much about it...but had heard the buzz...and it lived up to it all. Well done. Riveting. A great story, well done and well acted.

    True Story

    by

I really wanted to see this, because I'd seen a documentary about how these people escaped from Iran. I was never really taught anything about the hostage crisis in school; so, I was intrigued by this bit of history that I didn't know existed.
The movie is interesting without being dry, but it's not over dramatised. I like that it gives exposition quickly and visually. The movie moves quickly, but not so fast that one misses things.
I think teens and adults are the audience for this movie. I've seen more violent content on tv.; so, pg13 would be how I would rate it. They might even learn something like I did.
At first, I wasn't sure about the casting; I couldn't picture some of the actors in the parts. After seeing the first few minutes though, I thought they were great.
I enjoyed this movie and I think it's worth seeing again.

Great depiction of this historical event. A must see!

    by

This is a well-directed film which details the 1980 rescue attempts of the US and Canada to bring home six Americans from Iran. First, there is a brief history of the reasons Iran had the "revolution" which led to the protracted unrest and takeover of the embassy. Even though I lived through that period and watched the news - had yellow ribbons on my front door - I did not know the details of this particular event. It was classified top secret for almost twenty years. There is quite a sense of menacing tension during most of the film. The look of the film is true to the period - hairstyles, clothing, accessories. Understated acting by Affleck makes his depiction of Mendez believable. It is more of an ensemble piece with all the actors doing their part - Bryan Cranston, John Goodman and Alan Arkin were wonderful as was Victor Garber. Take your high-school age kids!
