Not Perfect, but a Moving Thriller

What Argo lacks in historical accuracy it makes up for with a thrilling plot line that keeps viewers gripped to the final climax. Well acted and filmed, Argo doesn't make me suspend belief enough to keep me from remembering that this is based on true events. Bravo!

    ARGO

This movie was a hit, as far as i;m concerned. The showing of the movie went so fast that it was over before I was ready for it to be over. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful movie. There was a time for being scared, a time for being apprehensive, a time for laughter, a time for crying, and a time for yelling, USA, USA, USA, USA!! It is a wonderful movie - one that every adult should go see..

The acting was su·perb, along with the directing.and the writing of it.

    Marjorie A.. Hoppas.

    dissapointed

The acting was good but the first hour and a half of the movie almost put me to sleep. As soon as it starts to get exciting the movie ends. I am truly amazed by all the great reviews it has received. Three of us attended and we all felt the same way. I couldn't wait to get out of the theater. Sorry Ben it didn't do it for me.

They say that Ben Affleck's films can be determined by how much facial hair hw makes his best movies when he has . Lots of hiar grat filsm, Clean shaved ....not so good!
He has a full beard in this and the film is OUTSTANDING.
Run to see it don't walk!.

    Perfect Balance

    by

Often movies these days sway to an extreme; too cheesy, too dramatic, too predictable. The acting in this movie is a good balance of it all. Kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time!

    awesome Ben

Ben scores a huge hit with this story of a true American hero during one of the darkest times in our countries history. I was disappointed that the movie followed the the same old bs about a student uprising that led to the overtake of our embassy. I think history has proved that this was planned and carried out by the Iranian government and the devil himself , Komani. In the movie, Ben was riviting and he was in the majority of the scenes. There was a mix of high drama and and then humour to break the spell. John Goodman was at the top of his game as the Hollywood guy, he had some very funny lines. The language was pretty raw which led to the R rating, if the language could have been toned down a bit it would have given older teens a chance to witness this piece of important American history. This is my kind of movie and I loved it.

Edge of your seat insight on Iran

No matter how you slice it, this movie is worth seeing. Whether you go for the acting, the action or the political insight, you'll come out with more than you anticipated. The storyline is gripping -- maintaining a full-on adrenaline rush right to the end -- and very rewarding. It helps you understand America's current predicament in Iran and throughout the Middle East, and clearly illuminates the cultural chasm between Islamic and western societies. Go see it!

    Argo is Great

Okay, it's been hollywood'ized to add suspense. The real Mendez said the extraction actually went off without a hitch, but hey, it's a great movie. I really loved the way the movie captures scenes from the actual events (watch the end credits) and adds TV clips from the nightly news, and Ted Koppel's Nightline. Even more interesting was the lengths the producers / director went to cast the 6 diplomats and other characters that were similar in body type and they even went so far as to duplicate hair styles (again, stay for the closing credits).

Lastly, how many movies do you go to where the majority of the audience breaks into spontaneous applause at the end.

    Go, you won't regret it!

    Perfect timing.

Great movie, great acting, being based on a true story, it shows what can be accomplished when people/countries work together. I think everyone in congress should go see...

    Argo = Awesome

Love the period pieces that splice together the real imagery/clips into the film. I believe this was very well done in directing, acting and multi-location shoots. It was seamless and suspenseful. Two hours flew. Would love to see this get best director or best film. Go see this film!

    Argo

    by

Without a doubt, one of the best movies to come along this year. Affleck was masterful... John Goodman and Alan Arken were type-cast perfectly for their roles... the screenplay was flawless... I'm not sure that there's anything else that you can ask for in a film. The movie was based on a true story and it was interesting to note the historical significance of Argo as related to the presidency of Jimmy Carter, who couldn't 'buy a break' during the Iranian hostage crisis. The confidential nature of this operation left Americans in the dark with respect to the fate of the six members of the diplomatic corps that went unaccounted for. All of the behind-the-scenes planning, negotiations, and execution of this mission keeps you on the edge of your seat, especially for the last thirty minutes. Two-thumbs and two-toes striaght up... You're going to like this one!

    Argo

    by Ayreq

Excellent story. I wish they'd made more of the fact that it was based on an actual event. It was blessedly free of gratuitous violence and wild, extended, unfollowable chase sequences. I was disappointed by the amount of cigarette smoking that went on. I realize that this was probably a reasonably accurate depiction of the amount of smoking that went on back then, but what did it add to the actual story line. After all, the smoking wasn't an integral part of the story the way the ubiquitous use of pushbutton phones rather than smart phones was. Had smart phones been in use, the escape would never have happened -- unless modern shredders had sliced and diced things making it virtually impossible to recreate things from scraps in which case, there'd have been no reason to use smart phones

Enjoyed, so glad we saw it

We just had a chance to see Argo this weekend. We remember this incident very well when it happened and how worried we were that the hostages were never going to come home alive.
Really enjoyed that most of the actors looked so very much like the "real person" they played.

There is so much like this going on in our government that we do not know about. It was so interesting to see how this was handled. Yes, I know liberties were taken to "spice things up for the movie", but it was still a very dangerous operation with many lives in danger. I applaude Ben Affleck for bringing this info to the public.

I would recommend this movie for older teens & up because of the language and some of the more disturbing scenes.

We need to keep in mind that these things are still going on, we have too many enemies in the world who want to see the USA & it's people eliminated. Kidnappings & murders are still happening at our Foriegn Embassies.

    Great Movie!

Excellent plot and even though I knew how it turned out, it still kept me on the edge of my seat until everyone was safe at home.

    Argo See This FIlm!

    by

One of the few complete films of 2012 thus far that I've seen, and I've been to an average of about a movie a week. Ben Affleck has risen from the ashes of Gigli to be a name I hope to see attached to future films. "The Town" was great and "Argo" is right there. The movie captures emotions from the whole range and has you living (or re-living) these events from 1979. I don't know where to start with the compliments as the whole thing was a delight to watch. The acting, the camera work, the authenticity of the film and the tension were all blended masterfully together. I can't think of a bad thing to say so, as Momma says, I won't say anything at all. Go see it, learn some history and enjoy great entertainment!
