    Argo-- expected more..

The synopsis sounded super good, went and saw it, not impressed at all. I thought it was really pretty boring until about the very end.. Very disapointed.

An outstanding recount of tragic times

    by

Argo didnt take long to bring up old memories ,opening scenes of this movie using real footage from protest and kinappings in Iran in 1979 definitely hit home from the get go. From there however some very light, comical and entertaining stories are told back home in the States. This movie shines all the way through but paticularly so when introduced to Lester Siegel and John Chambers. This two played by Alan Arkin and John Goodman respectively deliver some comical relief to the actual heart wrenching events happening abroad. The struggle to put the movie Argo together was cleverly told and put a "clock" on the hostage rescue efforts. That "clock" makes this movie that more nerve racking to go along with the seemlessly never ending close calls with the hostages and loyalist of the uprising. Ben Affleck did good job as Tony Mendez as well. ARGO had a perfect recipe of great acting, thrills, comedy and accurate depiction of the events of the Iran hostage crisis. A truly outstanding film

    ARGO

    by FISH001

I enjoyed seeing ARGO; I was a sophmore at University when these events actually happened and it was interesting to see a dramatic depiction of the events surrounding the American Embassy Hostage Taking and this side story which I had nevr heard about - based on a true story. Puts a different slant on events as I had remembered them.

    Intensely Gratifying

You will walk into this movie, and immediately grip the seat. The realistic atmosphere makes you feel so on edge, whatever you walked into the theater thinking about, will go out the window and you'll be invested into this story right away. Amongst the intensity of "what will happen next?" comes humor to relieve the tension and an amazing cast of talented actors. You forget that it's Ben Affleck and to me that's awesome when an actor can literally transform into his role. The storyline sticks with you well after the movie and you will get home and get on Google to educate yourself better about what might be one of the scariest events of it's time. Glad on I saw it on the big screen.

    History

The beginning of the movie and the last were the best. I like the actors but not all the bad language. It did not seem necessary and even distracting at times. Could not believe if you stay for the credits you hear from Carter. He had nothing to do with this agents valor and risk.
Let's hear it for true allies like Canada and lets continue to remember who are our true friends.
    OH CANADA!!!

    Awesome and intense

Did not know that much about it...but had heard the buzz...and it lived up to it all. Well done. Riveting. A great story, well done and well acted.

    Feels like a 70s Classic

If you didn't know the actors you might very well believe that this film was made in the 70s - in a good way! Look and feel of the time was captured well. Good combination of suspense and drama, without a ton of Hollywood glam. Fact that it's a true story makes it that much better.

    Highly recommend.

    ARGO

Fast moving, suspenseful even though as a true story you know how it will come out.

This is one of the tightest movies I have seen in a long time, no wasted time or dialog and the story moves quickly.

You can feel the tension and the vicious bad guys, but it is very realistic.

The ending reunion with the ex-wife was too schmaltzy.

Overall, one of the top flicks around, and stick around for the end, when the actors are shown in juxtaposition to the real life characters, a nice touch just like the Schindler's List movie.

Aflec should be nominated for an Academny Award for his acting and directing.

    Great Movie!

Had I not known the outcome of the actual incident, I would have truly been on the edge of my seat for most of the film. As it was, it was very suspenseful and extremely well-acted by everyone involved. Ben Affleck was AMAZING looking both calm and haunted at the same time. His direction should have been nominated for an Oscar. Everyone involved did a stellar job and Mendez certainly deserved a medal for his work. I would recommend seeing it to anyone but especially those of us who lived through that period.

    So slow I nodded off!

    by jnk9

While it was meant to remind us of a piece of our history I really think it could have featured less of the explosion parts and more of the human parts. The airport scenes were well done....even I was holding my breath a time or two

    AWESOME movie

I went in knowing little about the movie other then it was getting critic praise... and that I have loved Ben Affleck's other movies... and I just loved this movie. A smart yet thrilling movie... showing the challenges government faces... showing feds in a positive light. We acted. Well written.
    Awesome job Ben Affleck.
    Highly recommend

    A "do not miss" movie

    by Marbild

I remember when this was in the news and knew that there must have been some extreme behind the scenes maneuvers on the part of this our government. Watching how these actions played out was riveting. Ben Affleck and Bryon Cranston were especially effective in their roles. However, the entire cast gave flawless performances. I was completely drawn into this movie. The tensions were palpable. Those movies which rely on unrelenting physical action via shootings, car chases and fights pale in comparison to this kind of tension as a result of intense desperation. One of the movies that I will watch again. It should become a movie classic.

    Argo

    by TBiv718

A classic film that is well done from beginning to end. A cliche of a review, but there is no need to get into specifics when every part of the movie, for me, provided all the elements of a great movie that is even worth a second look.

One specific note: the incorporation of real footage from the 70's was done flawlessly. The attention to detail from the wardrobe, h/m/u, set design team, IT, etc, was perfect.

There's drama, excitement, humor when you least expect it (which makes for the best laughs, often in this movie) action scenes, tense moments, doses of 'actuality' - I refuse to call the perfect portrayal of history as a dose of 'reality' as TV has destroy this term - in addition to scene by scene replications of historical events.

DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE CREDITS ROLL.
