True to the spirit of history

While it would be impossible to make a movie like this without fictionalizing it somewhat, the spirit of the movie remained true to the historical characters. Adding Jimmy Carter's commentary added even more credibility to this historical drama. Ben Affleck won't get an actor's nod, but he should certainly be considered for a directors nod. It was much appreciated that comedy was allowed to play a roll in an intense situation. Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and Alan Arkin are engaging in every scene they are in.

    Must See Historical Thriller

    by

Argo was fantastic. This is an adaptation of a real-life international crisis in the late 1970s. While the movie does give a good backstory of what really happened, and does try and show a holistic view on what is going on, while still keeping America as the protagonist.

The characters seemed to be spot-on replicas from their real life counterparts. The acting was superb, and believable. Ben Affleck has become a great a director, as well as actor. This is one to definitely see!

    Awesome!

I was on the edge of my seat, stressed out, and totally engrossed in the movie the whole time. Even though you know the outcome, you're on the edge of your seat the entire time. I also liked the fact that they got right into the story and didn't try to fill it with extra plot lines.

You know the story but it's still spellbinding...

Wanted to see this film to learn the details of the CIA involvement in the rescue. Acting was only so-so, but although I already knew the plot and ending, I still found many parts (especially towards the end) to be dramatic. A well-portrayed (if not totally accurate) story of the rescue.

    "AGO.....YOURSELF"

Great flick! As an actor and a director Affleck has done it again. After "The Town"--great movie--he's got great action, exciting suspense, and a glimpse into America?s history that was quite fair. Affleck played the politics down and the heroics up! I was on the edge of my seat with all the excitement and laughing too. The characters came to life--because the cast was incredible and the writing was superb. John Goodman was a riot. One line made everyone laugh but I can only hint at it, ?Argo…yourself? (you really had to be there, so go see but be 14 years old). The last five minutes, especially if you don't know your American history, is a wild and crazy, edge-of-your-seat ride. Also, feeling good about OUR AMERICA, because we take care of our people was a wonderful feeling, especially since there?s little of it going on these days. MAKE SURE YOU SEE THIS ONE!!

    Argo is a Must See!

This was the best movie I have seen all year! It had interesting, complex characters, a creative story, a gripping suspense (which is difficult, since it is hard not to know how it must end). Ben Affleck should direct all of his own movies. Go see it, you won't regret it. Oscars are in it's future.

    Great Story

The fact that this is based on a true story only goes to enhance the experience. It was one of the first movies in a while that I was glued to. Whether you are interested in history or just a great action/drama type movie this is a good bet.

    Argo is a Must See!

    by swink

Just saw Argo and it was excellent! Lots of drama and suspense. No unnecessary violence. It was actually better than I had expected it was going to be. I highly recommend it to all.

    One of the Year's Best!

There has been significant Oscar buzz surrounding this movie, and having attended it last evening, I can totally support this buzz. This was truly one of the finest movies of 2012!

It had in-depth acting, excellent cinematography, tense suspense, exceptional directing, and an uncommonly engaging story line.

Two hours slipped away before I even looked at my watch once! That, to me, is an infallible gauge of a movie's compellingness!

    Bottom line: Don't miss it!!

    Argo

This was a great movie! Very exciting and held your attention through the whole movie! The actors were excellent. I would recommend it to all adults. My daughter asked me just last night if we liked it and I told her yes, absolutely!

T V character actors ALL paid scale!

Not academy award level---Walmart or Target kmockoff of Tom Clancy.

Harrison Ford never won a best picture & he would have been better.
AFFLECK is a Hollywood CIA agent. Look for more historical revisions from him.

AFFLECK was SHOCKED he won; voting like POTUS voting was fixed!

    Gripping!

    by

Argo was edge of the seat tense the entire time! Sound and acting was amazing at setting the tone for what is a very simple plot. Actors were wonderful as well. It's a must see!

    Well done historical thriller

Really well-done historical thriller. They captured the period quite well. It was exciting, funny, well-acted, etc. No significant defects. One thing I did find amusing is that Ben seemed to be going to a little extra effort to show off the period props.

An additional kudo, though I've read that they did not give enough credit to the Canadians I was impressed that they did not attempt to whitewash the background behind the Iranian Revolution in order to turn it into pro-American propaganda.

    Argo

I liked everything about it. The acting, the cinematography, the script. It kept my attention the entire time.
This is not a kids movie - rough language, but appropriate for the situation.
